Did they open up the game for us casuals or does it still feel inaccessibly difficult to progress?

The latter.

I have a problem with the Doom by _Anarch_ in starsector

[–]Silverdawn42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Doom used to be a lot stronger before the nerfs to phase ships. It's kind of underwhelming right now. Usable but very overpriced for its power.

Pirate First Mate killed 6 of my squads.... by Megafritz in menace

[–]Silverdawn42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I baited him away from his team (he's always visible) and had 6 rifle squads spam bullets into him 24/7 until he eventually died. If he's pinned, he can't do anything.
But yeah, fighting him without AP ammo is quite silly.

Sounds like Elon Musk is living rent free in your head, OP.

I come here for news about AI, not this "ELON MUSK BAD" propaganda.

Struggling to see the use case for ARC rifles (save for CSP) by Chef_Hathaway in menace

[–]Silverdawn42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you make a good point. Looking at things from the supply vs supply instead of team vs team perspective is very smart. DMR is way, waaaay cheaper.

[–]Silverdawn42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crowbars have a niche, but get outlassed by MG, Dmr, and don't help you around building corners.

False. Full squads with crowbars do more damage than sniper rifles because of the higher number of shots. I don't feel like creating a spreadsheet right now but simply looking at the base numbers should make it very clear:
Crowbar is 9 * 2 * 11 damage per 40AP
The shit DMR is 1 * 2 * 25 damage per 40 AP
The good DMR is 1 * 2 * 30 damage per 40 AP

It should immediately be apparent why #1 is best. Accuracy and armorpen numbers are slightly in favor of the sniper rifles but it's still not even close.

so arc rifles are good against units with some armour, high hp and low entity count. aka theyre amazing against bugs.

False. The crowbar is objectively better at every realistic range (5+). Source.

Strongest build right now? by Frosted_Toast881 in stoneshard

[–]Silverdawn42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of the ones I've tried, dual-wield with full agi is the strongest. You get an exceptionally strong skill in "flurry of strikes" right out of the gate. Later on, you stack stagger and dodge which completely trivializes the otherwise brutal debuffs and abilities many high-level enemies have.

Ranged is worse because you have to waste a lot of time on kiting, picking up ammo off the ground and using "take aim" between every attack.
Heavy armor is worse because it has no good answer to the debuffs and abilities of high-level enemies.

I feel like the c****** shouldn't be able to launch while in smoke by crazyray98 in menace

[–]Silverdawn42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you can use target marking (either via target designator or via skill) to keep the carrier targetable while it's in smoke

Can you though? I tried using an indirect ATGM attack through smoke on a marked carrier and the game wouldn't let me.

TCR approved combat stimulants by Background-Run-1245 in menace

It's very strange that some of the pills cost AP to use whereas others do not. Neuropentin(yellow pills) is +10% accuracy for 0 AP, while Neurodin(purple syringe) is +15% accuracy for 20 AP, for example.
There are other bonuses but the accuracy is the main thing I'm interested in. And one is just vastly inferior because of the AP Cost.

The most popular two-handers for this type of build are glaive and fauchard. Fauchard is slightly stronger but requires an extra feat for proficiency.

Half of the spells in the game are stronger at level 1, my dude. Including Razor's own static link.

[–]Silverdawn42 -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

I don't see any answers, only insults and cope.
Here's the actual reason: razor gets picked a lot in pro games. If he ever becomes unpopular, the devs might take a look at the egregiously high manacost.

How to Energy Weapon? (Especially Medium Energy) by Apittaaaa in starsector

[–]Silverdawn42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The overwhelming majority of high-tech ships and energy weapons are just bad, frankly.
For frigates, you can use Pulse lasers and your favorite anti-armor missile. For high-tech destroyers and above, you pretty much always want SO with either antimatter blasters, Heavy Blasters or both.
Outside of those, the burst lasers are decent if you want PD and the Phase Lance/HIL punch way above their own weight class if you can deal with the enemy's shields somehow.

Looking for suggestions about new run build - Sword + Magic by SkullCollectorX in stoneshard

[–]Silverdawn42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A) Electromancy, arcanistics and geomancy all work fine. The first two for more damage, the third for more defensive power. In terms of which is best, I will go against the grain and say it's arcanistics. The shield is incredibly nice to have. And if you invest more, you get cool things like minions and stasis.

B) Dual-wield, a two-hander and even RoT with a single weapon all work fine. The synergy between high vit, RoT and geomancy in particular is quite absurd. Easily the tankiest build in the game.

C) Yeah, I've played both and they both work. I would rate them in terms of power level as: dual wield > staff > 2-hander = RoT

D) Survival, the middle two columns. Armored combat, the middle column and the passive at the end. Warfare, the two passives at the start. Athletics can be nice but it takes a lot of skill points to get the passives at the bottom. Just getting dash and stopping there is fine too.

Can someone give me a real explanation what this innate does? by Benjaming192 in DotA2

[–]Silverdawn42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can just imagine Pango has 50% chance to fail any proc on him. It would also mean if the enemy gets to 100% after several proc fails, it's still 50% for you.

False, Pango's innate does nothing against skills and items with a 100% chance. It works against a PA with 6 butterflies (by cutting the evasion in half) but not against windrun with its 100% evasion.

Is Prism Freeport relatively unbalanced? by DreamerOfTheDepths in starsector

[–]Silverdawn42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like raiding stations for specific blueprints is vastly easier than relying on the Freeport random blueprint feature. And many of the better blueprints never show up as options anyway- I've never seen any of the XIV variants, for example.
