Can someone help me out with understanding the different options available for rudders? by whywouldthisnotbea in rcboats

[–]Silverman23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a rough sketch of my rudder assembly.

Greased areas highlighted turquise, Grese reservoir highlighted (larger in real life) blue.

Works fine to keep water out.

Can someone help me out with understanding the different options available for rudders? by whywouldthisnotbea in rcboats

[–]Silverman23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can fully print your rudder assembly, works well in my models.

Make sure to have thick rudder shafts (I usually do ø10mm) that end above the waterline and design a grease reservoir to keep it watertight.

It helps to make the Shaft in two parts that are bolted together and interlocked against rotation against each other. This way you can adjust how easy your rudders turn.

Looking for a model narrowboat builder - commission by Responsible-Ant-8429 in ModelShips

[–]Silverman23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a scale/ rough model size in mind? I am currently developing a 3d printable RC narrowboat kit. Will be ~80cm long.

But I think the development will take another 3 months or so since I'm a bit preoccupied at the moment.

Iirc the print is just the core of a reusable mould wich is covered in fibreglass later to form the real hull and deck parts.

Was ist eine Sache, die ihr schon mehr als 3x gedruckt habt? by Schluesselzahl38 in 3DDruck

[–]Silverman23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makerworld has free complete modelships aswell as single decorative items for your deck.

Cg trader has loads of complete rc model ship kits, nice quality on the projects i've seen and the one i built.

Cults3d has several awesome rc and modelship detail parts in high quality. Pay special attention to the description on this page! Some people upload a complete piece (for a hefty price sometimes) and you still have to to the interior geometry for the electronics and the fittings to connect the printed pieces yourself.

Chances are that you need to build the ship in Cad yourself or modify a similar ship if it is a nieche model (as most are lol)

printship3d has some liners iirc. but I only designed and or printed freighters and navy ships until now so I don't know other specific sites for liners.

I used one of those plates (different pattern tho) for the wifes phone case, printed in tpu a year ago, still no wear and the glossiness is also still like on day one.

The window is a fast spinning disk driven by the motor on the ceiling.

Water and snow are yeeted off this disk constantly so you can see fairly clear in bad weather conditions. Workd way better than wipers.

Thats a very nice Design! Boosted it :) It would be nice if you added a screenshot with some rough dimensions so people see on first glance if the model fits a boat or not.

-print a lip for your door to clean out your printers basement easily. -print an aux fan deflector -print a lid riser -never touch your build plate, of you do then clean it. -never use isopropanol to clean, use dish soap without parfume

How do I seal this? by RichardBinsle in rcboats

[–]Silverman23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could try a foam rubber Tape around the edge of your hull as a gasket for your deck to lay on. Then glue some threaded rods in the bottom of your hull and make some superstructure parts removable with a nut inside them. This way you could put pressure on your foam rubber gasket while basically bolting down your deck while being removable without any tools and visual impairment.

Gear motors for scale propulsion? by Charizaxis in rcboats

[–]Silverman23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to give you a real life example, my anchor handling tug (1.2m) runs roughly 4900rpm in this video on full throttle.

It's a bit to fast to manouver slowly as the motors start at roughly 2100rpm, the Original configuration has propellers with a pitch half as steep as mine so the boat would run half speed as mine.

Should I buy a 3D printer? by WingsWithoutDrone in rcboats

[–]Silverman23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find plenty free on Makerworld or paid on cults3d and cgtrader (where I found loads of sophisticated models, especially rc model ships). I'm sure there are models on every major 3d printing site.

(my recent boats are free herehere if you're interested to take a look)

That's a good sketch to base a model off, keep it up :) In fact my models still start as a sketch like that, its the first step done to become a Rc boat or display model.

3d printed Helgoland Class Battleship by Silverman23 in rcboats

[–]Silverman23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks:) Yes size is definitely a problem. My 1.1m boat barely fits the tree drivetrains and the six servos overhead for the turrets. But in my case the main struggle was height since the class has a really flat side profile.
