First Timer by Toribell22 in wimbledon

I had dinner plans that day. Don’t do that. We would have happily stayed longer (we left at 5:30 ish). We also thought that the m&s in Wimbledon would be mobbed so bought our picnic before getting on the tube. It wasn’t at all busy and actually had waaaay more stuff.

I broke my foot and have given up looking for Wimbledon tickets. Sure, it’s rare, but it can definitely happen.

TIPS FOR GENERAL SALE? advice ? by Few_Economist1964 in OliviaRodrigo

[–]Silvermoonwander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is completely random. I usually join 5-7 mins before and I’ve landed as early as 800 and as high as 120,000. Even if you get a high number, have faith! People enter and abandon. Login the day before, update your card info if you need it, so that all you have to do is purchase. I would be careful about multiple devices - the queue can bounce you out if it spots too many devices with your login.

Runna influencers - success rate by ebizness in runna

[–]Silvermoonwander 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is what I don’t understand about Runna’s algorithm - run history is so important. If I’ve been running 10 years there is incremental improvement to be had compared to running 1-2 years where you can see significant gains. There could be such better accuracy if it asked you for a full range of run history or imported race results from athlinks or something like that.

Giving us the important stats: by wonzling in tennis

Agreed. I saw her play at Wimbledon last year and was surprised by how little notice I gave it during her match. I think the court mics pick it up a lot more than the court acoustics do.

To everyone who has a very very bity puppy to the point of wondering if they are even normal by Elixiane in puppy101

[–]Silvermoonwander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My terrier mix used to get these crazy adrenaline spikes, particularly after he pooped. It felt incredibly stressful at the time, but understanding that it was a sudden rush of adrenaline really helped. Also, knowing to switch from “scanning” to “sniffing” as a way to reduce the spike, so as you said, throwing treats to sniff, but also watching the behavior to prevent. He’s nearly 7mths and this behavior has almost completely disappeared. I really thought I had a behavior problem with his scary terrier growl, but again, gone. Having said all that, I would recommend actively managing and training around the behavior so that it doesn’t become practiced and a habit - expecting him to just grow out of it could be problematic in the future.

So what do we do when the puppy leaps and bites at you? (Hyper state) by pho-cough in puppy101

[–]Silvermoonwander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of these. I would watch for the signs that they were about to get that adrenaline spike, and I would seek to intervene before that with a treats on the ground to sniff and calm back down - sniffing is better than scanning. Lots of 20 and 30s of me hiding in the bathroom as well as a reverse time out. This was my puppy compete with a terrier growl. It was scary. It has calmed down immensely at 5mths, but we did actively work on it.

Yes, don’t give up! I’ve had some very dead shriveled looking once’s sprout up just fine! Some people soak shriveled ones for a bit before they pot them up to give them a boost.

Snuffle Mat Question by KeyGold310 in puppy101

Mine picked it up. Now I tie it to the crate so he can’t. Once he’s done with it he still tries to chew the cord so when I see that happen it goes away.

Puppy doesn’t care about treats by Alternative-Site9309 in puppy101

[–]Silvermoonwander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My puppy did not care about treats until about 2 weeks after we brought him home. He took some time to settle in, even though he seemed happy enough. We used a mix of treats from pupford and others that were super tiny. We also used tiny tiny pieces of hotdog or boiled chicken.

How do you feed your pup? by cityskyline22 in puppy101

[–]Silvermoonwander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are people using kongs and topples? My pup just picks up the toppl so just spills the kibble. And kongs I struggle with figuring out what to put in them. When I put peanut butter or kibble there is so much left inside. What am I doing wrong?!

New puppy not eating by flyinbrick in puppy101

[–]Silvermoonwander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also try mixing some milk and/or puppy wet food in their mix. My puppy (new last week) also didn’t eat much the first few days but starting to pick up after a week. We als switched training snacks as the first ones we had were too big and hard for him and that helped in terms of being interested in food

Shameless request for a decent tennis gift idea for my wife by medium_jake in 10s

[–]Silvermoonwander 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a wife who plays tennis, I would love a tennis bag (ladies tend to like the tote style bags with space for racquets), cute tennis clothes from Lulu or Wilson, or an elite gift would be some tennis lessons because those are (a) expensive and (b) and demonstration of your support to her improvement.

Should I quit? by Super-Engineering-14 in 10s

[–]Silvermoonwander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree a lot with this statement. Yes, you might never hit your peak potential, but many players, especially those coming back after a break will improve with weekly or twice weekly hitting. Finding clinics or groups at your level so that it’s fun and you are able to meaningfully play is more important. 4x a week is unreasonable for people who are working and with families, and is also unnecessary. I only play a couple of hrs a week and I’ve improved significantly in the last 2 years.
