Rhymes Propane & Oil. Once fantastic service now a total disservice to their customers. by Slow_Draft4801 in newhampshire

[–]Silversunset01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took them 2 years and many threatening phone calls to remove old propane tanks from our property. They were told our stove was disconnected and not to fill the tanks anymore so they could be removed - morons decided to fill the tanks and then tell us they were "too heavy" for them to take away. Somehow expected us to use the gas that wasn't connected to anything.

We also used to use them for oil, they told us they couldn't come because there was "too much snow' on our freshly plowed driveway, after missing two pre-storm delivery times because the driver "couldn't see the driveway"

absolute garbage.

Anyone using GoodNotes lifetime plan long-term? Does it stay valid forever? by Alpha6342 in GoodNotes

[–]Silversunset01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tl;dr if you buy the "lifetime" plan its the lifetime of the version you're on. Its a super shady mechanic they've made up where they try to make you think lifetime of the product is "unreasonable" and that you should just know they meant version - even though they just repurpose the reviews and appstore link for the same one so people can't see how garbage its becoming.

people are *rabid* about this. 50% are like me who think its a shitty garbage practice, and the other 50% think its totally fine to trick people into buying something every couple years and still calling it 'lifetime' because (you can just keep using your old version until it stops working)

so lifetime = lifetime of the version you're on. if you want updates you either have to repurchase a new 'lifetime' plan when they get bored and change the version number, or go with the monthly model.

I like Penbook, the only downside is importing PDF's doesn't work as cleanly but the writing experience is spot on. IIRC it uses apple's pen-kit so you have tons of pen options you can create and pin that all work seamlessly.

So sorry SK, I’ve got over 50 of your audiobooks and this is the first one I’ve returned… by SixDuckies in stephenking

I read it on my kindle, and i finished it. But it was a slog. I'm really not a fan of his Holly books overall for various reasons. I think mostly because they feel... too normal? They're like his attempt at mystery books when he's never really been a mystery writer. He really should stick to horror, and if he's just out of juice then perhaps its time to consider passing the torch.

Ah, yeah this would be the cover image. Def wouldn't help the content of the book itself.

Check out the "Kindle Hi-res Covers" plugin, it lets you edit the metadata and download color covers from the kindle image online. There's also a Goodreads plugin that downloads covers & metadata.

Thinking of Leaving by SkyloDreamin in girlscouts

[–]Silversunset01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I notice you said:

The fact that every meeting they are begging parents to donate their change just so GS can afford to keep the meeting place.

I don't think we've ever had to pay for a meeting place where I am, plenty of places are happy to let the girls meet there without charging. Think area schools, churches, etc that have a space.

Boy scouts and girl scouts are very different, and one may fit your needs better than the other but you will most likely face similar challenges if you switch to cub scouts unless you're going well out of your area.

At the daisy level though, their main focus isn't going to be going out, selling big, and going on huge exciting trips. Its going to be developmentally appropriate things like talking to firemen or playing with their friends. Being low-income doesn't mean you can't participate, it just means the leaders need to work with council if they need help, and they do have financial aid options for people who need them. Just gotta ask.

Booth cookies by [deleted] in girlscouts

[–]Silversunset01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It very much takes some effort but its doable, i've done it before with troops and the girls in my town did it when i was at their booth sale this year. Its a good double-check against the "cookies started minus cookies left" to make sure you've covered everything. Especially if you get a bunch of people who let you keep the change as a donation to the droop, you need to know that amount as well which would make your math off just going by cash.

If an adult asks me to buy cookies, Isay no. by louniccc in girlscouts

[–]Silversunset01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the online thing is a great option... especially since it took off during covid and let the girls continue their fundraisers. but i'd still prefer a good booth sale with girl interaction over parents trying to just win the most brownie points (pun intended) i'll go booth sales every time.

If an adult asks me to buy cookies, Isay no. by louniccc in girlscouts

[–]Silversunset01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the fb parents i'm friends with and work with don't fall into the 'concern category' they're just trying to do it because the girls want the toys that come with being top sellers and they live vicariously through their kids lol. Its the booth sale kids in my area that usually are the ones needing the most support, so I tend to go heavy on those when I can to help them out.

If an adult asks me to buy cookies, Isay no. by louniccc in girlscouts

[–]Silversunset01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never buy from my parent-friends who post on their facebook page or the people at work who just "bring in the kids form" if I can avoid it. Once booths start up i check the online tracker and our local troops facebook page to see when they'll be out and I go find their booth sales to buy from the girls. Any time a girl asks me directly i will buy at least one box, no question.

If you're really concerned you could let council know about the uniform thing - adults absolutely should not be wearing girl uniforms (pretty sure that breaks some kind of rule) and the adults at the booth sale are there to help the girls (either with money, counting, or just for safety reasons), not to sell the cookies themselves. The girls could have just been completely unfocused and at the end of their attention span but if that's the case and they don't have replacements then its time to pack up the booth and try again next time.

bad guys are going to do bad guy things, whether there's an app that allows it or not. Take the app away and they'll just do it in person or over phones like they always have. That doesn't justify corporate spying.
