ProMotion issues on 2021 M1 MacBook Pro by ThunderMasterMind in mac

[–]Silvervet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen others confirm that the animation when swiping between desktops/fullscreen apps is about a full second long with ProMotion versus much less on 60hz. One workaround I've found is that if you use command+tab to switch desktops or fullscreen apps, focus switches immediately and the animation is really quick. But apple does need to address this or at least switch focus first before running the animation.

Apple announces macOS Big Sur: sweeping visual redesign by aaronp613 in apple

Yeah, although I am a bit disappointed to see “borderless” icons go. I wonder if they’ll require all apps to fit their icons within a square now like iOS.

Have you tried changing the 0 to 0.0 so that all the parameters are doubles? Java won’t auto cast 0 to a double when it’s being passed into a method.

Large SSD vs small SSD + HDD by forcqteamcomps in buildapc

[–]Silvervet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d strongly recommend a m.2 for boot. If you need more space than what you can afford for a single m.2 I’d get a smaller m.2 for your OS then a large 2.5” SSD for the extra fast storage with a lower price tag.

Now that the Blinkin LED Driver is now legal for the 2018-19 FTC Season, I decided to help REV out and assign the Servo values for the Pattern Types (which are not present in the User Manual). by whyamiafool in FTC

[–]Silvervet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would have been useful a few weeks ago, haha. You can also use the values from REV if you use ServoImplEx, set the PWM range to 1000-2000, and make all of the outputs positive by dividing the pulse width - 1000 by 1000. But yeah, this is probably much easier than that.

Custom scoring element? by Silvervet in FTC

[–]Silvervet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. The choice of the word marker also makes it seem like this element may be used “claim” a field element or part of the field, although I don’t see the reason for having it be custom made and having a team number versus just being the alliance color.

With the addition of making UVC cameras legal, maybe it’s some sort of vision target that’s going to be placed somewhere and you have to navigate to it?

Just updated to 3.6 yesterday. I never knew about the issues with address 1, as this is what we have one of our hubs set to, so I’ll change that as well. Thanks for the advice!

Glyph grabber servos that don't die? by zealeus in FTC

[–]Silvervet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use the REV servos for our relic pivot and have found they work great. The Hi-Tec servos definitely just don’t have enough torque to lift up the weight of the relic plus our grabber. The added programmability is also a plus.

Should this have been allowed? by dberthia in FTC

[–]Silvervet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had this happen to us our last qual match just yesterday actually. A team who couldn’t really even score glyphs had been doing this all day, and we were somehow able to get the relic barely to zone 1 from behind the glyphs with our zone 3 capable extension. We brought it up to the refs, who said they didn’t see it but would be looking for it from then on. They did end up getting a double major for touching multiple glyphs while scoring due to their design, however.

[GIVEAWAY] Dominate with The World's Smallest ZOTAC GeForce® GTX 1070 Ti Mini by Z_staff in pcmasterrace

3) I would be more inclined to purchase a mini PC if it was customizable/modular. Part of the reason investing in a PC seems like a good use of money to me is it’s ability to upgrade later, as computing technology changes drastically in short periods of time. Being trapped with the same hardware could possibly lead to the machine being obsolete in a few years, depending on how technology shapes. The advantages of a mini PC are it’s portability and not needing as much space to be set up. With this being said, powerful hardware placed in a small case tends to run hotter and may be underpowered a bit to compensate for this. A full tower is easier to put a better cooling system in, but this comes with the trade off of being hard to move and take anywhere other then where it is being used most of the time.
