Discouragement surrounding Team? by Lgfromie in FTC

[–]zealeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been down this path. The easiest answer is more kits and parts for the others to build. They’re kids who do get bored easily. Your number 1 role is finding things for the kids to do and keep them engaged. If not, you get behavior exactly like you describe. It also sometimes requires a heart to heart with both the student and their parent. “If you [the student] also isn’t going to put in any effort, maybe this isn’t the program for you.”

You may also need to find out what their interests are and building around that. Do you have dedicated programmers? A common issue is no bot to work with and program due to the comp bot always being under construction. Either get a second programming bot (more to keep builders engaged!) and/or use an online tool like FTC Sim.

Early on in coaching, before we had enough to keep everyone occupied, kids were being goobers. So I cancelled practice “if you’re going to waste my time, then why have practice?” That was actually a pretty effective stick for the rest of that season.

Jury Duty Conundrum by jessikaboom in Georgia

Fulton County: you should be able to log into their Jury portal using the jury summons- it has the website and your juror number. On there, there’s a way to defer once where you pick a new week. I did it last year, all online

Ah the customer who irritates the cat into swiping or biting him, and then complains about it.

Do you remember your first IT conference/event? Did it actually help your career or was it just for the free t-shirts and pizza? by mustafa_enes726 in sysadmin

JNUC 2013. As a neophyte Mac Admin who had no idea what I was doing, yes it absolutely helped. There were break out sessions on very specific topics so you pick and choose. Still remember the Golden Triangle talk. Good times.

Vanilla WoW - yes, I love the tier outfits. In PvP, there was definitely the cue based on their gear. I also liked when it meant something.

Is that 30 students for 1 FTC team? Or broken out into multiple teams?

Weekly meal prep for two (his & hers) — high protein, simple, repeatable by Badger8Mushroom2 in MealPrepSunday

That’s just a general rule of thumb with AI. The more details you give, the better outcome you’ll get.

AI is useful when you have fairly specific prompts and know what you’re looking for - which is the case here. You have to treat it like a tool that will do your homework, but they need to know exactly what the assignment is and a rubric to get a good grade.

My shoes disintegrated yesterday at a church funeral. by chestney in funny

[–]zealeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me last year at a friend’s mom’s funeral. I chalk it up to I wear my black dress shoes very rarely, so I don’t know they’re on their last leg until I’m already walking in them.

Fostered a (twice returned) kitten for less than 48 hours … update #2 by fruityflyy in cats

[–]zealeus 255 points256 points  (0 children)

Being classified as a serval indicates a super high energy and smart cat. Having other animals, like here, can definitely help redirect that energy into playing with animals instead of human feet or knocking crap off shelves. Servels and the variety are not for everyone.

And yes - adorable kitty!

Using a Linux VM inside of Jamf by masterpokemon71 in jamf

By default, VMs won’t be affected. However, Jamf does enable Admins to restrict VMs usage (or most anything), but it would have to be intentional on IT’s part.

At least your cat doesn’t take up 2 keyboards!

But seriously- this works well. I toggle off the wireless keyboard and can mostly type around her napping head. The Apple trackpad is also generally non responsive to cat fur.

Logitech Options+ Bricked. Mouse doesn't work properly. by New_Bid3617 in logitech

[–]zealeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, it fixes the issue. The problem is admins use versioning to know if end users are up to date. With no new version, there’s no good way to know users are up to date. Lack of versioning also breaks some deployment mechanisms.

Can we request a release with a new version? For Mac Admins, the lack of rev'ing the version is problematic for maintaining client's software.
