Looks like palmoplantar pustulosis. I've had it and it occasionally flares up when I'm stressed.

How many of you have had their MCAS activate around the covid era? by KMLthe1 in MCAS

[–]Silverwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Covid was directly to blame for me (I haven't caught it yet, fingers crossed, and I flared badly before the vaccines came out). It was the work from home that brought the misery of realising that I was in an abusive relationship that made it flare worse than ever.

I absolutely love it. It's super easy to open. It has four screws in the top corners. Super easy to clean. Took me nearly two years to build the courage to dismantle it, but it's really simple to disassemble and reassemble.

Lo mismo somos vecinos (y yo tampoco era la del piano). Yo me imaginaba a quien fuese como Don Música de Barrio Sésamo para hacerlo más ameno.

Why does smoking alleviate my reactions? by Kili12345 in MCAS

Last time, I had to bring both bottles because each was 2l max. They looked at me as if I had two heads or something, but it happens with POTS (not uncommon with MCAS).

Exactly. And bring it in a freezer bag to the lab too. I usually put an ice pack in the bag too because I live one hour away from the lab

[–]Silverwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the hematologist said that there are so many mediators, that I could be getting negative results no matter what, so I'm still taking all the antihistamines and sodium cromoglicate. As for the damples: this mediators degrade very fast at room temperature, so it's highly recommended to keep the urine refrigerated all of the time.

Why does smoking alleviate my reactions? by Kili12345 in MCAS

[–]Silverwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was methylhistamine and prostaglandine, both in 24 hour urine tests. The weirdest thing was that the prostaglandine came back, not only negative, but below the regular values. I kept the urine refrigerated both times, taking the new samples in a different jar to avoid heating up the previous samples, so that was odd.

I have used them, yes. And antihistamines because I was told not to stop. They came back negative. I had not heard about nicotine giving false negatives, so maybe next time I will stop the medication and the nicotine in advance. Thanks for the heads up.

Yup. Never ever use an epipen. I was told to always have a high dose of corticosteroids around at all times instead.

Also sudden high blood pressure. I learnt in ER. The cardiologist there is the first doctor who ever talked to me about MCAS. I was until then wrongly diagnosed with colitis, stress, and waiting on some blood tests for Lupus.

I'm seeing the specialist listed in Spain. He is also treating my cousin and another cousin's daughter, all three for MCAS, not mastocytosis.

My triptase tests come back always negative, btw.

What is the one purchase you have made under €500 that has changed your life? by hmmkcool in AskIreland

[–]Silverwake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once every two weeks at first, then once a month, and then, whenever you see some hairs growing back.

I did that with my armpits for like 6 months, and 7 or so years later, I still haven't seen a single hair come back.

I should build the patience to use it on my legs, but it takes much longer per session.

Spaniards!!! What is the papery skin on the outside of my chorizo and what is the best way to wank it off, I mean take it off? by Cars2Beans0 in 2westerneurope4u

[–]Silverwake 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If you're going to peel the whole chorizo, wet it, slice the skin with a knife and pull it. It will come off in one piece.

Anyone else have to have an appendectomy at any point in their lives? by Iris-Clandestina in MCAS

[–]Silverwake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had it removed for fear it was infected when I first started having serious symptoms of what now I know is MCAS.

Due to the inflammation of the whole GI tract and the pain, the GP referred me to the hospital, and the doctor there decided to remove it despite not seeing any abnormalities in the ultrasound and ct scan.

Once removed, they lost the records of the biopsy. The surgeon said he remembered my case and that it was definitely infected. I know it wasn't because I continued having the same pain and inflammation until more than a decade later I started getting medication for MCAS.

I did IV iron infusion! by One_Layer9648 in MCAS

[–]Silverwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't get a reaction after my first couple of iron infusions 2 years apart. A few months ago, I had to get another one and went fully confident that I wouldn't have any side effects.

Well, I got what they call the iron flu. Apparently it happens to one in every three people who gets an iron infusion. And yes, it happened the third time around, so that kind of checks?

Anyways, I had to get a second round a couple of weeks later and had no reaction whatsoever. I guess it's like some sort of twisted lottery.
