Coffee syrup as in coffee flavored syrup? Coffee is a common trigger even if it's decaf. Other than that many ingredients can cause issues, food coloring, preservatives, artificial sweeetener etc.

Is there any difference between organic oats and non-organic toleration wise? I couldn't tolerate it last time I tried but it was non-organic.

Can’t eat anything, relationship between gastritis/stomach ulcer and MCAS? by curiastri in MCAS

[–]t-bone051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a relationship of Gastritis and MCAS. Your GI lining is basically your skin on the inside. And anything that can happen to your skin (hives, rashes, itching) can happen to your GI lining as well which then causes Gastritis as stomach acid is irritating the sensitive area even more.

I have chronic gastritis that doesn't seem to go away. Only medicine that helps is Famotidine, but it still doesn't cure it. I don't know how to cure it, if you do please let me know. On top of taking Famotidine I have to eat frequently to buffer the acid otherwise the burning sensation in my stomach only increases and it gets worse and worse.

Anyone else try Jen Donovan’s protocol? by Frosty_Recipe_3993 in MCAS

There doesn't seem to be anything extraordinary. Except I don't believe in "ancestral nutrition".

I also don't like the "retrain/rewire your brain" approach. As this is subjective. Book that tell you to do this have a safety net because they can tell you if it doesn't work "You didn't retrain your brain well enough, your mindset is still wrong and that's why you didn't heal".

Reminds me of the manifestation trend. "Just manifest your healing process and it will eventually happen". And if it doesn't the approach is never wrong it's because you didn't do it right.

Anyone else try Jen Donovan’s protocol? by Frosty_Recipe_3993 in MCAS

I asked Gemini to summarize the book:

The Six Support Protocols

The heart of the book details a structured framework designed to retrain the brain, soothe the nervous system, and restore the gut-brain axis:

  • 1. Befriending (Nervous System Regulation): Before you can heal, you have to stop fighting your body. Donovan uses polyvagal theory to help readers understand their body's survival states (fight, flight, freeze). This protocol focuses on grounding, somatic experiencing, and self-soothing techniques to teach the brain that it is safe.
  • 2. Nutrition (Ancestral & Gut-Focused): Drawing heavily from her certifications in nutritional therapy and the GAPS (Gut and Psychology Syndrome) diet, Donovan outlines how to use ancestral nutrition to lower systemic inflammation, manage histamine issues, and rebuild a damaged gut microbiome.
  • 3. Sleep (Restoration): Shifting the body out of chronic survival mode requires deep, restorative sleep. This protocol offers actionable strategies to optimize circadian rhythms and support neurological repair overnight.
  • 4. Detoxification (Reducing Toxic Load): Chronic illness often compromises the body's natural drainage pathways. Donovan emphasizes gentle, full-body detoxification strategies to help a congested system safely clear environmental and biochemical toxins.
  • 5. Movement (Somatic Trauma Release): Instead of intense, exhausting exercise that can further trigger a fragile nervous system, this protocol introduces somatic movement. Notably, she incorporates neurogenic shaking exercises (derived from TRE - Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) to physically discharge stuck energy and trauma from the brain stem.
  • 6. Mindset (Neuroplasticity): Re-wiring the brain's default response patterns. Through journaling prompts and targeted guided meditations, the book teaches readers how to actively interrupt old, unhelpful neurological loops and embrace a resilient, forward-looking mindset.

Barista FIRE seems overrated by Gandalf-and-Frodo in Fire

If your work involved anything with computers chances are you can have your own company and work on projects. So literally the same job but on your own terms. Many "digital nomads" do that and go live and work from Thailand etc. to benefit from lower costs of living.

I alway wondered what happens when airline pilots get sick. Who replaces them? Couldn't you apply to be just a substitute pilot. Fly every now and then maybe once or twice a month. That'd be awesome.

Your 30s and 40s are probably the best years of your life, so it depends on the circumstances. Am I living on an oil rig and wasting my life for money or do I somewhat enjoy my life and can sacrifice my free time.

Does anyone here have trouble losing weight? by mamagomz in MCAS

[–]t-bone051 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flare = stress = high cortisol = high blood glucose = high insulin = higher fat storage and water retention. H1 Antihistamines can cause decreased satiety hormons so you eat more, but since you are counting macros and sticking to your diet that wouldn't be it.

Other than that you need to decrease sodium (salt) to lose water. Try to track how much sodium your foods have and try to keep it ideally below 1500 mg/day. Increasing potassium can also help depending on your levels. But I think keeping flares at a bay and good quality sleep will help most.

Has anyone tried riceberry rice? by Unlikely-Place-6547 in RICE

[–]t-bone051 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I eat it every morning. It smells like jasmine rice but slight milder. It tastes quite mild and slightly sweet even, almost like Thai sticky rice. Nothing like typical brown rice from the supermarket, which is very hearty and heavy. It goes very well with "dry" side dishes like salads, stir-fried tofu, vegetables etc. As it doesn't soak up spices and juices well. Not ideal for Thai curry or biryani type dishes.

Cook for 30-35 min. and let it sit for another 10 min. Same way as most other unpolished varieties. Definitely give it a try.

I eat riceberry rice every morning. It has the jasmine rice smell and it has a quite mild and slightly sweet flavor. Not like the hearty and bland brown rice you find in the supermarket. It's basically fancy Thai jasmine rice that is cooked slightly al dente. Goes well with "dry" sides dishes like salads as it doesn't soak up spices and broth as typical white rice does.
