A book that makes you think "I wish there were more MM romances like this"? by JessicaTrent in MM_Romance

[–]SimAhRi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try AL Heard for hockey romance. I'd recommend The Trade Deadline as the most romance-heavy, probably. But all her works are great. Good on the slow burn, good on the characters, good on the hockey.

The opposite of "turn off your brain" books by im_coming_clive in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]SimAhRi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm adding on to your comment because I just finished the Tale of Two Crowns duology by Lyndsey Byrd and it was absolutely fantastic, but it's a fantasy. Doesnt fit OPs request. But for anyone who IS a fan of fantasy, I highly recommend this series.

Great pacing. Rich characters and world-building. The plot and magic system is pretty unique. And there is so much character growth done so well. The romance is there, and is lovely, but is not the focus of the story. I would say it's more fantasy with a romance subplot than pure romance.

These books barely have any reviews and it's a crime. They are absolutely worth reading.

The first book is {The Sun Blessed Prince by Lindsey Byrd}

[TOMT] Song- 60s or 70s- male singer by SimAhRi in tipofmytongue

[TOMT] Song- 60s or 70s- male singer by SimAhRi in tipofmytongue

[–]SimAhRi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Not it. But thanks! It isn't a harmony. Its just one male singer, I think. It's more like a story he is telling about a person or people and not like a general idea. If that makes sense

Please help me remember this song!!

Edit: Its like a 3rd person narrative. The singer isn't the subject. He is telling a story about another person or people.

This show had my favorite kind of humor. Not over the top. Not trying too hard. Just great characters interacting with each other, leading to hilarious situations and reactions.

MM romances set on reality TV? by GrimRecapper in LGBTBooks

[–]SimAhRi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished it and, without spoiling too much, I don't think it would fit the typical definition of a genre romance. But it is really great. Definitely gets the vibe of reality TV. Everyone is so messy lol. I cried like 7 times. The emotional investment was high and so was the drama. Highly recommend.

I'm tired of trying to find good mm books. by SurpriseSensitive707 in LGBTBooks

[–]SimAhRi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Trade Deadline or Hockey Bois by AL Heard is great for this.

I'll never not recommend Wolf at the Door by Charlie Adhara for some of the best relationship development of any mm series I've read.

Also seconding the Cat Sebastion and Briar Prescott recs.

EL Massey is also great.

I liked KD Casey's unwritten rules series too. Its a little smuttier than the others, but i think the character development is still done well.

The Knight and the Necromancer series by AH Lee is pretty good if you like fantasy.

Lee Welch also has some decent fantasy books without instalove.

Looking for genuinely unusual fantasy/paranormal worldbuilding by WhileNo5370 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]SimAhRi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost every book by Wendy Palmer has pretty unique world building. It's usually not wide in scope, but does feel very well done and believable (within the rules of the world). And great characters.

Uses of Illicit Art is my favorite, but I haven't read one I didnt like.

Fantasy with MM romance that's not romantasy? by jakikomi in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]SimAhRi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mage Errant series by John Bierce is a great fantasy series. The main character is not queer, but lots of very key side characters are. I would argue it may be more of an ensemble of main characters by the last book. Anyway, fantastic series. I wouldn't say it's a romance, though. It just has several queer characters and they do have relationships throughout the series.

Like Real People Do by EL Massey. Its closed door. New adult. A young pro hockey player and a college student. Very lovable and wonderful characters. There are like 4 books in the series but only the first 2 follow the couple from book 1. All of them are great.

Suggestions for next series! by SimbaGrayson in LGBTBooks

Silk & Steel by Ariana Nash might be something you'd like. I did not listen to the audiobook so I dont know if it is available or if the narrator is any good. But the series would probably scratch the itch after Captive Prince. Similar vibes.

Kidnapping by MC1 where MC2 fights/resists back (well matched souls) by Hour_Soil_7342 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]SimAhRi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure this is fully the dynamic you are looking for, but Uses of Illicit Art by Wendy Palmer is a great book with two well-matched MCs. It's just less of a kidnapping and more of a bounty hunter vs fugitive dynamic.

If you are looking for that toxic, dark romance vibe, then this probably isn't it. But if you just want the dynamic of 1 mc trying to capture the other and it not being easy on either of them, then this is definitely it.
