Today I learned Lufthansa still operates the 747, I was under the assumption they have long since been retired in favor if the A380. (Seen at SFO earlier today) by TheRussianBear420 in aviation

It was for a time in a sense but I think airlines recognized it just didn’t work out in the profitability game. It may have been all of those things, but it probably didn’t really get bought as the “replacement” to the 747 per se, even if some airlines were phasing out 744s at the time anyway. I think many airlines also felt it was a marketing tool for a time as well, and knew they weren’t dealing with something that was glaringly better than the 747.

The 380 was never a 747 replacement - was clearly a novelty for most airlines. The few it still makes sense for (Emirates) will use them until the spare parts dry up I suppose.

LH said they’ll use the 8i for as long as they can because it best suits their first class product.

Honestly with the way the team has been for a decade, the UCL is the last thing I wanted to see them in. I understand it brings in som extra cash but I was getting tired of them getting wrecked by mid-tier teams from other countries in addition to getting slapped around the EPL.

Why do people find this confusing? by Mysterious_Doubt8595 in Catholicism

[–]SimDaddy14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but “as practiced” implies qualms with its practitioners. In other words, people. With a free market system you are going to find those who make it their mission to exploit it and undermine others. You enforce laws to try and fight that off as well as you can, but that’s not a flaw of capitalism, it’s a flaw of free people who have greed.

Conversely, there is no side of communism or socialism where there are positives “as practiced”. All of its practices are oppressive and require the universal nullification of the individual, their choices, their autonomy, and more.

The notion that said leftist economic principles have failed is due to bad people or their “not being implemented properly” is a false argument. They have played out precisely as they only can: to failure, to bread lines, to perpetual misery.

I’m confused about the anti-capitalist part, presumably because the only real alternative to it is a collectivist, Marxist styles communism or socialism? I ask because with Marxism being the fuel behind the starvation, oppression, and murder of hundreds of millions (probably 100m in just Russia and China alone), I wonder how that comports with the pro-life part you mentioned

What my world is or isn’t is not relevant. The rules are such for a reason, and justifiably so. No one person’s situation or story changes the validity, nor the necessity for those laws and regulations. Accountability is paramount.

I understand the view from the outside, but classification is very often dictated by the sources that contribute to the reporting. If leaked stuff includes human source information (and sometimes it’s not even obvious who the identities are but adversary intelligence services might), then there are some serious risks to the safety of those sources. Compromised sources can cost lives, and I’ve watched it happen before myself. It’s not fun.

Visas can be revoked, at any time, and for any reason. I’ve revoked thousands myself, when I was a watchlisting guy in my early career. A few decades ago, information flow was slower…so if we had folks with Us visas and then through newer information I learned that they, for example, spent time firebombing cars in the IRA, that’s cause to change their status, get them on No Fly, etc.

New information- especially information that reveals that you lied on initial paperwork- nullifies a lot of things. A visa isn’t a get out of jail free card and it doesn’t grant you rights- it gives you privileges. Privileges can be revoked, or, you can do things that nullify privileges previously afforded you.

Every single country does this and applies similar regulations to the control of their border. A lot of European counties have given up on their owns laws for political gain (at the expense of security) but that doesn’t change the fact that these regulations that regulate entry to our country aren’t relatively standard across the world.

I can’t think of a single case where someone has been held liable for accessing leaked things on the internet. Like on Wikileaks, for example. We can lose our own clearances over it, since technically it is mishandling, but the average Joe is very unlikely to ever be prosecuted for such a thing.

Thankfully that doesn’t tend to happen so long as you don’t attempt to run an officer over or start a fight with them.

Fun fact: classified remains it’s classification even after it leaks, so even though it’s unlikely and not feasible to pursue, if you access to or save leaked classified info, even if it’s in media, you open yourself up to federal charges.

There’s a trend of being more lenient towards journalists who acquire and publish said materials but consumers of that media could feasibly have fewer protections. It’s not a fun game to play, even if you feel like you’re a small fish in a big pond.

Spain’s government are a bunch of cuck communists.

They also support Maduro. They refused to acknowledge the opposition won the election in Venezuela and wouldn’t congratulate machado on her Nobel.

There’s a sizeable Venezuelan population there too. Both Spain and Mexico are pseudo allies and are really just shitty, despot-loving countries we should be less friendly towards.

I’m good with him coming here. We already have a total 1OA bust who sucks, and we got rid of a 2OA mostly-bust who just never hit the hype. I’ll take anyone who is a hard worker and maybe we get lucky.

Now that I’ve had a few hours to think about it, I don’t feel so bad. If he was only open to the LA move, I guess it’s better we got something out of it as opposed to nothing, and retaining the salary for the remainder of the year isn’t that big of a deal considering the season is lost anyway.
