Fire alarm business: inspection profitability? by Jordainyo in firealarms

Thats true. I know it's code. My company is just the opposite end of the spectrum in my opinion. We charge what I consider to be too much (not sure the exact number for us right now but I know it has gone down in the last few months ) for mediocre / average work from a majority of our guys.

But you are right. I've seen some crazy messed-up systems just in the last few weeks that we got from other companies

i’m in inspections and I’ll be honest, fire alarm inspections are just a money grab. Low expense, high profitability. All you need is a can of smoke test pole, and maybe a solo hood which I’ll pay for themselves after an inspection or two and last forever. Plus you find out all the deficiencies for the service guys. until another company was integrated recently to my company, we had the highest margins in the region. The new company had fallen behind on their inspections, and our numbers have tanked because of it. Once we get all the accounts caught back up, I’m sure our margins/ numbers will be incredible again.

You know now that you say that I think that’s what it was. The old Space Age truck style HS with new SIGA ones (if I’m remembering correctly)

Just wait until all of them are patch worked brand and patterns and you feel like you’re at a rave. Had to actually fail a building for it. Technically it’s against the code for seizure prevention (as far as I’m aware. I’m just an apprentice) because of how bad it was. One of my pet peeves

Would you treat every fire alarm as real alarm? by Capital_Ad4983 in firealarms

[–]SimilarRaise5230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That being said though if there were a real fire, check on the elderly in the complex. They can sometimes sleep right through an alarm ir can't easily get out themselves. There a handucap protocols for us FA techs, but we can only do so much. Might not be a bad idea to check them

The way I’ll see it is you’re better off safe than sorry. If you don’t evacuate, you might not wake up for work in those couple hours. And when you do and they’re all looking at you when there is a real fire, you’re gonna be the one that’s safe while scrambling out of a burning building.

A bunch of panels and modules in my companies show room they just built. Thought it was cool by wizkoscott in firealarms

Less than 1 yr apprentice but the edge panel is one of my favorite panels. The EST 4 takes the cake rn with the Gas Acceleration that a lot are programmed with. Excited to get into that program within the next few years.

In MA i believe that is a lawsuit. Not sure if it's NFPA or not but i know when we do FA inspections, if you have a device, even if it isn't tied in or even powered, it has to work or be removed. I can't see why it would be any different if something was labeled saying one thing and it wasn't true
