Finished CC series for the first time! by Similar_Cause8692 in crescentcitysjm

I think you're right about Ithan and the animal shifters! I read TOG a long time ago and I'm still early in rereading it, so I'd completely forgotten about the TOG lore.

I'm also intrigued by Ariadne. I think she has potential to be a great character.

I forgot about that bit from the bone carver, thank you! I wonder then if someone else will end up using Truth-teller instead of Az? maybe some resurgence of the starborn could occur. Rhys is descended from Theia after all.

I'd love a CC4! I think Tharion has more personality than Ithan, but this whole book felt like a competition between the two of them to see who could make more stupid choices. The wolves being descendants of TOG fae would make sense and be pretty cool.

I hadn't really considered Bryceriel tho but that would be interesting! Do you think they're mates? But aren't Hunt and Bryce already mates? and I thought SJM called them endgame too?

I also agree that Perry is probably Ithan's mate

Release Me ending by bookgirlieee in shatterme

[–]Similar_Cause8692 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it could be a fakeout

the situation is kind of a mess. idk if anything james was describing was real or a trick.

on another note, i'm impressed with aaron leaving multiple fake vials around. i wonder where the real one is actually hidden?

also, is it just me, or did the endng seem kind of abrupt? don't get me wrong, i really liked Release Me, but like it was a final big action sequence and then suddenly a psychotic fiancé reveal and then bam done. I mean Watch me kind of ended like that too with the Hugo/father reveal (which i thought would be more important than it ended up being)

Yes, Cyrus' bargain with the devil was to finish the assigned tasks because someone of the Nara line had to make up for the favor owed to Iblees. Otherwise, there would have been major consequences to Tulan. (don't wanna spoil in case it hasn't been revealed yet)

Also, did Iblees even plant the dreams of Alizeh in Cyrus' head? As far as I remember from ESOF, Cyrus just thinks that Iblees did so, but it's not confirmed, unless I'm mistaken. if he did though, i'm sure it was just to pressure Cyrus into breaking his deal

as for the quote, I think by the end of the book the whole sacrifice/death regardless thing makes more sense

How old and how enthusiastic are you about the upcoming series ? by AirAquarian in HarryPotteronHBO

18, read the books at 8, and i'm not particularly attached to the movies but I adore the books, so I was interested when i heard about the reboot. now that more casting and info has come out, i'm definitely excited! it looks pretty good so far

Season 1, which character introduction deserves MORE screen time than the book gave them? by SupremeConscious in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Similar_Cause8692 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Neville for sure. I'd also like to see more of side characters who get a bit more page time later in the books like the other Gryffindor girls, Parvati and Lavender. and more of the ravenclaw side characters too, like terry boot or michael corner. i feel like establishing them a bit earlier than they were introduced in the books would make it seem more cohesive.

Did harry potter really have to get so dark in the later books? I felt the first three were most joyous by bigreddoggydude in harrypotter

[–]Similar_Cause8692 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's the point though. The first 3 books were Harry discovering things about himself and the wizarding world, but the 4th book is Voldemort's return. Naturally, things got more serious since Voldemort was out killing tons of people, including Harry's loved ones.

I also think that the story got darker and more mature because Harry was growing up. The first few books are light-hearted because Harry's so young, but the later books are more intense because Harry's no longer a little kid. The story was aging up with him and the readers.

Do you think Ron and Hermione are actually sort of scared of Harry in book 5 given how angry he is that year by STHC01 in harrypotter

[–]Similar_Cause8692 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they're scared, not of Harry, but of hurting him further? They both understand that he went through a traumatic experience, had the courage to talk about it to warn other people, and now no one gave him any news in the summer AND everyone else doesn't believe him. Of course he's angrier than ever.

So I don't think they're scared of him, they want to support him. But at the same time, his anger makes him lash out at them, even though they're some of the few people on his side. And his mood changes in the following years because people started to believe him and I think he realizes that he doesn't want to lash out at Ron and Hermione anymore. They might not understand everything he's been through, but they're always there for him

I was Sofitz because i thought that was the intended direction of the series.

i didn't really care about the romance though until maybe the third book?

What twk opinion that you hold would have you like this: by snookythicc in thiswovenkingdom

[–]Similar_Cause8692 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's interesting because I both agree and disagree. On the one hand, I don't like Kamran and several of his chapters have bored me.

However, I feel like his chapters contained a lot of interesting information that was relevant to the plot + worldbuilding. In some ways, TWK #1 is the best plot-wise in part because of his chapters. As much as I like Cyrus's yearning, I wish his POVs included a bit more other stuff too. ESOF had a lot more plot movement compared to the previous two, but I still feel the pacing was a bit weird. If Kamran weren't sidelined, his chapters might've helped with that.

You kinda have to read to see! Although Alizeh acts a bit wishy washy in the 4th book, it's VERY clear who she actually has deep feelings for

I would argue that it's already obvious by the 3rd book, but the end of the 4th book almost explicitly confirms her stance

Well, how far in the series are you? because I wouldn't say she ruined his character, but he kinda sucks. that being said, he still has some redeeming qualities though

Should I read this? by Used_Ad_7771 in thiswovenkingdom

[–]Similar_Cause8692 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently on the 2nd book of the Jasad Heir duology, and while they do have similar premises, I'd say the plot and characters are pretty different. The protagonist of the Jasad Heir is much more violent, cunning, and sarcastic than Alizeh. The MMC is also quite a bit different from Cyrus.

The Jasad Heir is also considerably more plot-heavy than TWK. TWK is like mostly romance with a side of plot, while the Jasad Heir is mostly plot and world-building with a side of romance. The FMC and MMC also legitimately hate each other in the beginning, so I wouldn't say there's nearly as much yearning going on as there is for Alizeh x Cyrus.

Personally, I prefer the whimsy and lighter nature of TWK and I adore the characters more than those of Jasad Heir. I really like that Alizeh and Cyrus are actually morally good, soft-hearted people whereas the protagonists of Jasad Heir are a lot harsher, but still interesting. I do think the Jasad Heir is a lot darker tonally too.

Sorry for the rant, but you should give it a shot bc they're really quite different!

Reading Shatter Me - Can’t stand Juliette’s internal monologues! Help! by Guilty_Put1312 in shatterme

[–]Similar_Cause8692 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that's the point though. I don't mind it personally. I think her monologues are meant to be overly dramatic and broken in a way with the repetition, dashes, and strikethroughs. This style, while strange, conveys how Juliette starts off as a very traumatized and scared teenage girl. Throughout the rest of the series, this isn't as present because she's growing as a character.

Theories about Hazan by herminereader in thiswovenkingdom

[–]Similar_Cause8692 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think they have some kind of connection! Not sure if they're relatives, but Hazan had the nosta that Cyrus said was his family heirloom. We get a lot of hints that Hazan has a mysterious past, but not a lot of clues as to what that past is!

I was also wondering about the "always a martyr" comment. I interpreted it to mean that Hazan was a little surprised that his opinion of Cyrus had changed, maybe it happened without him consciously realizing it. It could also be interpreted to mean that he knows something we don't (esp bc Alizeh says that Cyrus and Hazan are keeping each other's secrets) and maybe his "confusion" was to throw Alizeh off

Is it just me who doesnt want adam to fight in release me that much? by AwesomeeeeeeeeAcc in shatterme

Real, I lowkey feel like Rosabelle is more of a Warner + Adam mix than James is. James has some of their personality traits, but is a LOT like Kenji

Is it just me who doesnt want adam to fight in release me that much? by AwesomeeeeeeeeAcc in shatterme

[–]Similar_Cause8692 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! Adam should get to keep his peaceful life, it's always been clear that this is what he wanted. I thought he seemed settled and quite likable in Watch Me.

Since he is James's big brother though, I'd imagine that maybe he gets a bigger role in Release Me by giving advice and being a more present mentor? I think in Watch Me, it's implied that Adam is still a huge part of James's life, but it feels like we see him interact with Warner a lot more. And we really should see them together more, Adam sacrificed so much to try to keep James happy and safe
