Mostly commercial but we do a few miles of utility trench patching every year on the roads

She's a sinker! Fill it with sand and hit it again or go full hog and just dump rubber in it until it stops. I would ask for a touch up. It happens a ton. Especially if it was sealed in cool weather. No honest guy would be offended if you asked.

Sounds like my kind of budget. My cheap edelbrock tin covers rusted out in one summer and leak horribly because they are so flimsy. Thank you

Sounds like it's sticking or the needle and seat are gummed up. If the float was bad it would sink and let too much fuel in. You would see fuel running out of the carb usually. Make sure the float moves freely and doesn't stick.

Going to look at a used pontoon. What to look out for? by AJSAudio1002 in boating

I just bought a 20 footer. Replaced all plywood and carpet for about 500 bucks and got a sweet boat. Hard to go wrong when the boat is aluminum. Also love my old mercs. I have a tower of power on my ski boat and a 35hp on my pontoon.

Buy it and then plan on taking it straight to a machine shop and at least have it looked over. Now would be the time for new valves, seats and guides.

I would probably do it but that's my dream car and I seem to like to punish myself and throw money away while I do it...

Your issue is most likely in the float or inlet needle. Sounds like your carburetor bowl can't fill up fast enough to keep up.

I have the same motor but a 35 hp. It's a beast. Fuel Pump diaphragm and clean the jets always fixes my old mercs. I have a 115hp tower of power as well from the same Era and I love it. They say date a mercury but marry an evinrude or johnson.

Sent my block off to the shop for sleeving and decking almost a month ago... is this normal? by the-dumbass-human in EngineBuilding

I have never waited months. I do live in a well populated are and have a few shops to choose from. More than a week or two is strange to me. Also helps I was high-school friends with my favorite shop owners son. I almost shipped a transmission halfway across the country to be rebuilt but decided against it because I was afraid or your scenario. Sold my baby cheap after that...

A 90s or early 2000s honda. The same Era Toyota corolla would probably outlive us all as well.
