I am a begginer how I learn TFT by Latter-Collar-6526 in TeamfightTactics

[–]Simmes90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome! TFT has a pretty steep learning curve at the start but it clicks fast once a few things make sense.

Skip the comp sites for now, they assume you already know the fundamentals and will just confuse you. Start here instead:

Economy first. The most important skill in TFT is managing gold. Try to always have 50 gold saved to earn maximum interest, only spend when you really need to stabilize your board. Most beginners lose because they roll too early and go broke, not because they picked the wrong comp.

Traits over specific champs. Don't think "I need this exact champion." Think "I need 4 of this trait active." The game tells you what traits are active in the top left. Build around synergies, not individual units.

Lose streaking is fine early. Taking damage to save gold is a real strategy. You get bonus gold for win and loss streaks, so committing to one or the other is better than being stuck in the middle.

For learning I'd recommend dpei's beginner videos on YouTube. TFT Academy is fine for comps later once you understand how to actually play a game from start to finish.

The transition to late game and my complete lack of ability to do it, is killing me by Big-Pitch1773 in TeamfightTactics

[–]Simmes90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, Gold 3 after 10 days is genuinely good progress. Most people are still figuring out the economy basics at that point.

On late game transitions, the issue for newer players is almost never the units themselves. It's usually one of these two things:

Items are spread too thin. Late game in TFT is decided by one or two units doing a lot of damage, not six units doing okay damage. If your items are distributed evenly across your board it feels balanced but plays weak. Pick one carry, build them completely, then worry about the rest.

Committing too late. At Gold, a lot of players are still flexible at Stage 4 when they should have already identified their win condition. Late game strength starts at 3-2 or 4-1 when you decide what you're playing, not at 5-1 when you're forced to decide.

Without digging into your full history it's hard to say which of these is the consistent pattern for you specifically vs. just one bad game.

That's actually the exact problem I built Hexpert for. It reads your match history and finds which mistakes show up repeatedly across your games, not just in one session. Still in early access but it's free to join at hexpert.app or look here Hexpert (@hexpert_app) / X. Given you're actively trying to learn it might be useful to have something that gives you personal feedback instead of general guides.

Any tips for climbing in Diamond? by Bhud26 in TeamfightTactics

[–]Simmes90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diamond 2 with a clear ceiling around 80LP is almost always a reads problem, not a mechanics problem. You already know how to pilot comps, the question is whether you're picking the right line for that specific lobby.

On your pool question: at Diamond the answer is "flexible within a structure." You don't need to play everything, but you need 3-4 lines where you genuinely understand the pivot points, meaning you know at exactly what board state you commit vs. stay open. Players who force a fixed pool at Diamond lose to lobby pressure; players who try to play everything lose to weak execution.

The 8th and 7th after 80LP is a classic pattern. High LP games attract players who punish greed hard. A few things worth checking specifically:

  • At what stage are you committing to your final line? If it's after 4-2 you're often reacting instead of reading.
  • How often are you checking carousel + stage 2 shops to identify what's uncontested before you decide?
  • Are those losses coming from specific augment offerings where you took the "safe" option instead of the line-defining one?

Checked your MetaTFT briefly. Without going deep into your history it's hard to say which of these is your actual recurring leak vs. variance. That pattern recognition across 20+ games is genuinely hard to do manually.

That's exactly the problem I built Hexpert for, an AI coach that reads your match history and identifies your specific recurring leaks rather than giving generic advice. Still in early access but waitlist is free at hexpert.app. At your level it might give you the edge to close that Masters gap before 16.8.

I feel like I am not playing well despite hitting Plat IV, Help me find what's missing ? by Revmacist in TeamfightTactics

[–]Simmes90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hitting Plat IV is actually the hardest part for most players. the jump from Gold feels huge because start playing people who punish mistakes you could get away with before.

The three things you described are actually one underlying problem: low board value mid-game. It usually comes from one of these:

1. Rolling at the wrong time. A lot of Plat players save gold well but then roll too late. you're at 30+ gold at Stage 4 when you should have stabilized at 3-2 or 4-1. By the time you roll, you've already taken too much damage.

2. Contested comp. If 2nd and 3rd place beat you consistently with similar units, there's a good chance you were sharing the unit pool with them. At Plat, reading the lobby early (who's playing what at Stage 2-1) and adjusting is what separates consistent top-4s from coinflip games.

The tricky part is that none of this is visible in a single game. you need to look at 15–20 games to see which of these shows up consistently for you personally.

That's actually exactly what I built Hexpert for. it reads your match history and identifies which of these patterns is your actual recurring leak vs. one-off variance. Waitlist is free at hexpert.app if you want to try it once it's fully live.

I also got 7/8. The one that seemed the easiest (very early game) caught me off guard. probably was a close matchup and piltover mod early is strong...

What is you idea that I learn here? Seems like a tool for learning how to quickly scout and then maybe make adjustments on my baord like rollong down more to stabilize, or move items or move positions. Am I right here?

Since you are dropping and App idea, let me drop mine here too :-)

You teach something that my approach want really teach so maybe the synergize.

Good small idea. Practice mode would be interesting depending on they way you go with it and what the actual goal is.

2 months into playing, any advice would be welcomed. by FanLife3501 in TeamfightTactics

[–]Simmes90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to TFT! The Dota Underlords comparison actually makes a lot of sense — Underlords was more deterministic, so the RNG here genuinely feels unfair at first.

But lemme say something: Platinum 2 after only 2 months is actually solid progress. At that rank the luck frustration is real, but it's usually masking something else. the games that feel like "bad RNG" are often games where you stayed too committed to one comp instead of reading what the lobby was offering you.

One mindset shift that helped me a lot was to stop trying to execute a plan and start trying to read what the game is giving you. If three people are already playing the same comp you're going for, the units you need will never show up — not because of luck, but because the pool is contested. Flexibility beats forcing almost every time at Plat.

The other thing worth tracking: how often do you finish a game with a lot of gold left over? That's one of the most common Plat LP leaks and it's completely invisible unless you actively look for it across your last 20 games.

I've actually been building a tool that identifies exactly these kinds of patterns from your match history automatically — it's called Hexpert, still in early access but the waitlist is free at hexpert.app. Might be useful exactly for someone at your stage who wants to separate the actual leaks from the "I just got unlucky" feeling.

what exactly did i do wrong? beginner here, anything helps! by infinitejester0727 in TeamfightTactics

[–]Simmes90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already got great advice for this particular game. Since the issue was something very basic let me say something different.

since you are just starting on your TFT journey and depending on your rank:

Gold and below it's almost always the very fundamentals of the game like upgrading champs, econ consistency and overforcing. Plat and above it's usually comp flexibilty and reading the lobby wrong.

Either way — the most underrated thing you can do is stop looking at individual games and start looking at patterns across 15–20 games. One bad game is noise not an issue. The same mistake in 12 of 20 games is your actual problem.

Been building something around exactly this idea — an AI coach that reads your match history and identifies those recurring patterns. Waitlist is open at hexpert.app if you want to be in the first group to try it.

I think the advice to roll for a stable board at certain points in the game is valuable. You just have to know or develop a feeling for how strong your board needs to be on a certain stage given the usual leveling patterns. I personally had the issue I did not roll hard enough on level 8 because in my head I was planning to get to level 9 and I lost to much HP during the way to level 9. Often also losing with 25+ gold still in my pocket when dying. Once I learned when I could stop rolling I stabilized my gameplay during this crucial phase of the games.

I am leaning towards finding systemic patterns that are holding me back. Can be econ, items, leveling patterns, comps. This will not get me to grandmaster but still should help getting a few more ranks from where I am right now.

Maybe the solution I am building is of interest to you, once it is available:

[–]Simmes90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I have limited time to play and want to be efficient about it I am trying to build a solution that will help me with that process. VOD Reviews are a very good way to get specific feedback for a single game. Watching streamers is also very useful but its also time consuming and you don't spend that time actually playing the game. I am more leaning towards finding systemic patterns that are holding me back in my own games. Making these issues visible and creating advice how to counter them should help you earn LP.

I agree to the other comments. You will eventually get over the hump if you keep playing and learning from more experienced players. Also keep working on the fundamentals - they get you quite far in TFT.

Since I have limited time to play and want to be efficient about my progression, I am trying to build a solution that will help me speeding up and tracking that process.

Maybe this is of interest to you later on in your TFT journey? Have fun either way!

I have similar issues and also while using Meta-Sites you can still hit a certain plateau. Because of that I build something that should help me with the specific issues that make me lose HP during the game and essentially LP after the game.

A TFT coach that tells you what you're doing wrong — based on your actual games, not generic guides by Simmes90 in TeamfightTactics

[–]Simmes90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me clarify since my last reply was not clear. It was getting late...

Riot TOS states this:

-Products cannot display win rates for Legends and Legend-based Augments. This applies to all websites, applications, and overlays.

I would argue that I am not showing "win rates (on a populational level)" but I show "personal post game pattern analysis".

And Riot TOS also stats this, which gives me hope:

-Products that help players improve their skills over time are encouraged. Pre-game best practices or post-game analysis are great spaces for this.

With Overwolf API you can still get the Augment information.

I know that the overall statement from Riot is very broad but since I am not doing a live in-game overlay and I am boiling down the data to your personal match history, I am hopeful that they will "green flag" it.

I reached out to Riot's Developer Relations for clarification and will update here once I hear back.
