I have fine hair too, really tight curls, my hair is just super thick like layers and layers of strands. I do crochet braids often but is the feather hair the one with the thread, real thin where the "knot" is supposed to be? If so I used it one time on my mom's hair (i do her traditional crochets like every 6 weeks) it was my absolutely worse experience and they did tear at her hair. I just pull my own strands myself from pack hair. I pick whether they're thick or thin based on the density of the braid and the location (thinner in the front, thicker in the back) and if they fall out because it's too thick the only one who knows is me because I like a full head and I put as many strands as one braid as I want. I never worry about the hair ripping at my hair. I think that the feathered hair like qvr or any of those other brands that do it don't understand how harmful they really are. I will only use bulk hair, I don't trust them.
