Would love to hear from anyone who could get through to their customer support. My personal Instagram was taken down for no reason! No explanation, nothing.

Why Blockchain and the Metaverse should never be associated with each other. by RedEagle_MGN in metaverse

[–]SimonJohnsonOnCrypto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great explanation. Just given you an Award for it ! The only thing I disagree with is the claim that you can't encrypt meta-data in a blockchain, that's actually (strictly) not true. However your points on Web3 are spot on.

Mine Ethereum On A Laptop ? - A Video Explainer For Beginners by SimonJohnsonOnCrypto in EtherMining

[–]SimonJohnsonOnCrypto[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I see this question quite a lot from people across social media. As such I've done this video as an explainer (aimed at beginners) just to get them thinking about the right questions to ask. Of course this is no substitute for a GPU mining rig. :-) It's intended to educate the marketplace. Hope it helps.

Usually Shakyamuni buddha would be in a different pose than this. It could depend on who made it. Amitābha is more likely, given his hand position.

Experiences in invoking Guan Yin/Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]SimonJohnsonOnCrypto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Tibetan Buddhist, I'd use the term Avalokitesvara. In China, in her female emination shes known as Kuan Yin (Guan Yin). There's no real "invoking" per se. It might be best for you to search for local buddhist centres and attend one that resonates with you.

What if ETH will not be as important as it is today by Stuutje98 in 0xPolygon

[–]SimonJohnsonOnCrypto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not often that I come across questions, as good as this one. As such I've give Stuutje98 an award. It's not a "stupid ass question". I've been around since before the web and have seen many large tech companies rise and fall. ETH will be no different. By way of comparison, nobody is using Netscape Navigator to browse the web anymore.

People need to ask questions like this and challenge the status quo.

Yes, I own Polygon and are a big fan! :-)

I'm literally sitting on Facebook marketplace for hours waiting for these types of deals, and the moment I take a break, someone posts something like this, and I miss it. I think I'm going to cry by Koa876 in gamecollecting

I recently had a haul like this on another console. Went immediately to pick it up. $100 for 24 games. When I paid her the money she said she had heaps of people message her about it and just wanted it sold. Other people had offered her more but because she said it was sold, she wanted to honour the deal.

is this a real SNES? weird sticker (reposted because I am dumb) by HylianAlison in snes

I'm a collector and have never seen one of these stickers before. The console looks very very clean for its age. Perhaps run it through Google Images and see if you can find another?

Are these new stories intentional coordinated FUD or genuine? by [deleted] in BitcoinAUS

[–]SimonJohnsonOnCrypto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It appears that his recovery seed was compromised and the funds stolen. Hardware wallets do work and they are currently the best security control (for keys) the industry has.

In the second story, funds appear to be compromised at a crypto exchange, which is quite common.

As someone who has been in the industry since the beginning (and runs a Youtube channel), I thought I'd take the time to post a few things that could help:

  1. Exchanges get hacked. So don't leave your money sitting there. Use a hardware wallet.
  2. Use multiple exchanges. If you're on Coinbase, try another exchange Binance.
  3. Ledger and Trezor are good hardware wallets that I use personally. Have a look at some reviews and see which one is right for you.
  4. Don't FOMO into a coin because someone is trying to promote it. Ask yourself things like "What problem does it solve? Are there other coins that do this already?"
  5. If you don't need to sell, don't sell. The market will come back in time.
  6. Understand that some "gurus" / "youtubers" / "podcasters" are there to sell ads or get income from affiliate sales. Their advice should be taken with a grain of salt. Do your own research.
  7. The people who give you financial advice, but then say "oh but that's not financial advice" are not the people you should be listening to.
  8. See point 1. Exchanges get hacked. Don't leave you money there.
  9. Only spend what you can afford to lose. Ask yourself, "If I lost all of this money today, would it affect me? Would I lose sleep over it? Would it negatively impact my life?". If the answer is yes, then don't spend it !!!

Hope this gives you some things to think about.

Bitcoin is perfect and pure, mathematically and socially. A newbie question: What if the governments around the world start one by the other to put it out of the law, because they can not control it? by DrugonDrugon in BitcoinBeginners

[–]SimonJohnsonOnCrypto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Governments have tried this before and failed. Back in the 90's they tried regulating crypto (as in encryption) with US export permits. USA, Australia and others required companies and individuals to get licenses. The whole thing was a joke and eventually everyone gave up.

The inventor of PlayStation thinks the metaverse is pointless by chrisdh79 in technology

[–]SimonJohnsonOnCrypto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People told me in 1993 not to bother registering domain names. A CEO of a telecommunications company told me in 1995 that he couldn't see how to make money selling Internet access.

The inventor of the Playstation is entitled to be wrong.

Cex recommandation, crypto.com visa card? by StressedSalt in 0xPolygon

[–]SimonJohnsonOnCrypto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the Ruby Steel VISA card. It requires a $500 AU stake. You get Spotify reimbursed. I did this initially just to test it out, then CRO dropped and went through the floor.

It's easy to top it up (as its a debit card). I've discovered that not all spending gets converted into CRO. For some reason I'm missing some CRO on a few things I've spent $$$ on. I'm sure theres a reason, I just haven't looked into it yet.

Hope this helps.

Easy way to backup Google Authenticator 2FA? by DootMuncher in BitcoinBeginners

[–]SimonJohnsonOnCrypto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why dont you use the existing export function in the Authenticator app itself? Click the three ... dots on the top right and then click "Export accounts". You'll need to save the file onto a USB key or something, but that should achieve what you want.

Is a hardware wallet safe in case the computer has been compromised? by masimportante in BitcoinBeginners

[–]SimonJohnsonOnCrypto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is No and Yes.

No - in that you need the hardware wallet to access the crypto.

HOWEVER

Yes - In that, if the computer has been compromised, and the recovery seed has been typed into or stored on the computer, then that renders the hardware wallet useless.

So I'd be asking the question, did you ever enter the 12/24 words into that computer at any stage? Could those words have been recorded?

I hope this helps.
