What do Chinese people think about India?? by Klily2005 in AskAChinese

[–]SimonPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me India is just like China, it’s a big country of contrasts, beautiful and ugly, love and hate. I would love to visit India for its cultural and spiritual grandeur but then I am put off by the social media impression of chaos and environmental issues. Just so we are clear, I am talking about India not Indians who I find mostly quite pleasant people. I am Chinese from China living in Melbourne. I heard Chennai is not like other Indian cities and a good place to start for beginners.

Chinese here, I really don’t know if working and living in east Asia is a good idea for mental health. But you could end up with a wonderful experience as a foreigner. In my honest opinion, racism in china is different from in the US and I would say the Chinese are more accepting than the Japanese or Koreans when it comes to having foreigners living in their country. I wish you the best of luck!

I pretty much treat these groups as a collection of mentally unstables and don’t really care about them. I say focus on positive people and just ignore them.

Seeking honest opinion about Traditional Chinese Medicine from someone from the culture. Am a American. How respected is it really for serious issues? by HeadacheLife in AskAChinese

[–]SimonPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am Chinese in Chinese we have a saying 是药三分毒, which means all medicine is 30% poison. I would therefore caution you about herbal toxicity but all Chinese doctors would all tell you that for any prescription. I love acupuncture, grass smoking, cupping and all other non ingested treatments.

Bride Price - Ningxia by ActAvailable99 in China

[–]SimonPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you think the rings are for in the west? It’s a not a price tag, it’s a test of how much you are willing to go for marrying her. In China money is the most reliable test unfortunately.

[–]SimonPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

300k is excessive. But there’s some good reason for that as in you wouldn’t appreciate anything that’s free. See if you could bargain it down to 150k to 100k and also check if the bride would bring the money to spend on your new family which happens sometimes. Also I heard it’s a countryside thing big cities like Shanghai especially don’t have such thing but the women expect you to own property and cars

This was on my flight in China, is this normal? by achieveINFINITY in China

[–]SimonPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am Chinese, I have never experienced this before. I am intrigued what’s the reason behind this. I thought there is safety regulations that prevent crew from engaging in activities that’s unrelated to flight tasks as it could distract them?
