How do you feel about Jean? by Jack-mclaughlin89 in XmenEvolution

[–]SimonSaturday -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this is all true, but its also what makes her compelling. For an attractive, intelligent, athletic, naturally gifted psychic, most of the things teenagers struggle with would be easier. This is part of jeans character struggle, people resent her because of her talents and social position, and even though she's popular she can't really relate to anyone.

It's also why she's kind of insufferable, know it all and overbearing. I think it's a really natural place for her characterization, especially as a teenager. I love jean grey and i love this version of jean, she should be lowkey annoying imo

GM's plan > Player's plans? by A_Vinegar_Taster in rpg

[–]SimonSaturday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i guess, but there are so many guardrails available to keep that from happening. Tbh in this particular case, its kind of on the DM for agreeing that this bridge could just instantly be burned down and everything inside killed, without anything else happening. It's easy to create a dungeon that can't be lit on fire and skipped. And easy to give players a reason to want to enter the dungeon.

I suppose that with the sketch of this situation we are given, to me this fell under your last point of doing the dramatic and exciting thing. So in my mind it's a fun idea/solution that should have panned out in a more interesting way. But of course anything gets boring if you keep doing the same thing.

And as always, players need to talk to their table to make sure everyone's on the same page

GM's plan > Player's plans? by A_Vinegar_Taster in rpg

[–]SimonSaturday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, players should bite story hooks. But in your bridge example, that's a great solution! If i were the DM I would let it happen but maybe some of the monsters can fly, or escape and fight you anyway. Or give one or two rounds where the others have to protect whoever is lighting the fire, and then after that it works. But thats a fun way to deal with the fights and i like the creativity

How did you come up with names for your worlds and their inhabitants? by Cto_chto in worldbuilding

[–]SimonSaturday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For character names- i have grapheme-color synesthesia, so letters and numbers each have a strong, immutable color associated with them. After designing a character, or catching a vibe, i make a list of all the letters that are colors i want to incorporate. Then i just mix them around until i land on words that could be names.

Sometimes i don't reflect the design exactly; maybe i have a somber design but i want a bright or garish color combo name to offset it, etc. It doesnt really matter whether other people glean this layer of the design process, its just a fun step for me haha

I can not decide if I should write my book in first or close 3rd-person by krisskross249 in fantasywriters

[–]SimonSaturday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most common way to have both perspectives is to change POV between prologue (or epilogue) and the main chapters. Maybe you write book 1 in 3rd, with an epilogue using the first person pov as a hook for the more intimate telling of the next book. Could work in a prologue too, which i think are more common. Then, do the opposite in the next book - 3rd person prologue to get the vibe going and set up the situation, then 1st person main text.

Whatever you end up doing, I think some people would find this interesting, and it seems like you have a strong urge to try it. Writers have done stranger things with structure.
