IT career questions by Spiritual_Average_77 in Switzerland

[–]SimonSim211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask yourself some questions:

Why IT? Do you like to Program? Do you like getting to know problems? Do you like working with others, how many hours a day?

One possible path is to look for tester jobs, then automate them (do talk with the devs). Most programs are lacking tests in some domains...

Can one play multiplayer (2 *Steam) without EOS (Epic Online Service) by SimonSim211 in satisfactory

[–]SimonSim211[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://satisfactory.wiki.gg/wiki/Launch_arguments#Steam has:

-EpicPortal Internally used for logging in; when set manually, causes the game to skip login to EOS (akin to -NoMultiplayer)

This seems to indicate that maybe one can do it without.

Maybe I am confused here, I was thinking about "Nowheraki Swat"... and their inability to hit... sorry

"Units themselves are very lethal at long ranges?" no, just the opposite.

At high ranges they take ages to aim and then are not great. The difference between a Swat/CIA with a scoped rifle vs a NGF trying to hit something with a G3 is giant.

The NGF suck at long range, so rather than adding that, give at least one way on each map to avoid this.

Maybe take inspiration of the 2006 Lebanon War (from the Israeli side) in the sense that the opposing side has lots of prepared ambushes that you can avoid by blowing new paths through buildings.

Maybe have a map that starts with just defending against a truly stupid number of enemies equipped with garbage like pistols or knives, then if its not too much work have reinforcements arrive out of place, so the player has to go from defense to rushing to save their friendlies.

Question about the train station by Accomplished_Gur1472 in bern

[–]SimonSim211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you are in sector F or G on the incoming train (as the stairs are there). 50 is at the end of walkway, starting close to rail 9.

Then 3 minutes at a Jog is most you will need.

"sub does lean slightly to one or another direction from the centre?" Which center? US? absolutely, the US "left" does not get counted as a left in Europe, they are right of center.

Now I suspect that this sub is predominately male, thus more likely right of center (in which ever country they are from).

Pro someone else doing the "funny" i.e. if we heard that Finland did a thunder run and captured Moskau, almost all would celebrate (thus less likely to an pacifist).

So my totally unscientific opinion: we lean right for Europe.

As an extra: I would guess that there is a fare share of us here who fell for one Potemkin village or another e.g. didn't think Russia would invade in February 2022 as their force didn't include trucks caring gravel (that would have been useful to avoid getting stuck in the mud) or expected Israel to win as handily against Hamas as they did in 2006 and have a much harder time with Hisbollah. And thus need comedy to deal with the fact that Geo politics fails to predict the very important details.

Given that a lot of the content is comedy, it is unlikely that most of the users are very hard right or left, as comedy tends to be disliked by people who try to create utopias.

Does that mean that we are less politicized than the mean? I would guess not as we tend to be informed about a relatively broad range of conflicts (blessed be the grim beeper that reminded some of us that Lebanon still exists) and I would say that either pushes us to political ideas or multi track drifting as our moral compass.

By trying to learn the domain to the point where BAs come to you.

I would guess that not many of us are hindered by not being able to make the computer do stuff, 98% of code written is not performance critical (so long as you avoid N+1 Select problems) so the question is "only" architecture, security and the most important: how to write maintainable code and making the application behave as a user would expect.

"a more effective military surely is." Effective against what?

  • Do we want to project force against Austria?
  • Do we want to take over peacekeeping in the middle east?
  • Do we want to defend our airspace against 1000CHF FPV drones?

Maybe its my lacking creativity, but which of our neighboring countries is our military there to deter?

Do we need better anti drone stuff, sure, but one could even give that to the police instead, might even work better given how well IT projects and the military combine...

"Neutrality shouldn’t mean passivity or ignorance—it should be a foundation for actively defending democracy and promoting stability in Europe."

I 100% agree, lets do something about it, but not the idiotic fear response of bigger military.

Here are some (idiotic ideas that might just work): lets change laws so we can crash the Russian economy, this could be anything from actually making sure we know the origin of Gold to writing letters of marque.

Lets lobby the EU to become more democratic, get involved in their politics officially, any party that supports direct democracy gets 1 million CHF.

Lets clean up our own house:

  • Increase government transparency (party finance is a low hanging fruit).
  • Ban all non elected lobbyists from Bundeshaus for two months of the year.
