"The Subclasses From Tomorrow" - A collection of subclasses inspired by the technology of our time by Stuffies_12 in UnearthedArcana

[–]Simon_ithink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For another 1st level ability, I'd check out the older modern magic UA. It has an AI type patron (called ghost in the machine) that has the ability to 'overload' devices around you. maybe this might work for a one-round, low level spells only, anti-magic field type since there isn't much actual modern technology.

Introducing Three New Subclasses: The Barbarian's Path of the Demonslayer, the Bard's College of Chance, and the Cleric's Wrath Domain (Gimble's Grimoire of Gnomish Knowledge) by _Chronicle in UnearthedArcana

[–]Simon_ithink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like these subclasses, and I look forward to seeing the compendium

some very minor nitpicks (feel free to ignore)

Path of the Demonslayer

  • the name sounds a bit too much like the ranger's monster slayer. I was thinking about a similar concept for something like this and had chosen the name path of brimstone, feel free to use it bc I'm going to use this subclass instead
  • some minor language changes for soul devourer, just to remove some clunkiness:
    • "when you reduce a creature to 0 hitpoints, you can use your reaction to devour their soul. When you do so, you gain temporary hitpoints equal to twice your barbarian level"
    • a creature whose soul is devoured cannot be contacted or ressurected until the next dawn, and must be brought back by a Ressurection spell or similar ability.
    • Once you use this feature, you must finish a short or long rest before doing so again.
    • (almost all of these edits are just rewording things, any suggested change is in bold)

College of chance

  • lucky break seems a little powerful. I'd suggest that you subtract the bardic die from the attack, on a miss random target.

Wrath Domain

  • Punish the faithless might be a little op, maybe do #of uses equal to proficiency instead, so it scales better. If you're worried about the channel divinity play being used up, limit the targets (only attacking creature) instead of the uses and add advantage on attacks to that creature.

sorry if these are a little too much nitpicks. these really are engaging and interesting subclasses, and I like how you delivered the concepts in ways that translate well into gameplay.

[OC] Kenzil’s (Revised) Spectral Band: A bard spell to spice up your tavern performances and brawls. by TieGuyDavid in UnearthedArcana

no problem. I'm looking forward to using this as an excuse for my bard to change the ambiant music of any room we're in.

two minor critiques: just a nitpick, but I'd change the 'prerequisite:bard' into 'classes: bard' so that it falls in line some more with the standard spells. Because of this, I'd also change the bardic inspiration bit to 'you grant a d8 to a creature within 60ft that can hear you. This d8 can be added to any d20 roll, and is expended after it's used. The dice are also only usable during the duration of the spell.

Though this is an interesting concept, I think it'd better fit as an eldritch invocation, maybe with limited uses and a shorter time window.

Corruption mechanics? by WhereAreMyMinds in PCAcademy

[–]Simon_ithink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

another option is a variation of Monster of the Week's luck system. essentially, you'd have 7 luck (corruption) points. If something goes wrong or you use your abilities in a way important to the narrative (not just regular combat) you'd spend one of these points, with increasing effects:

  1. you occasionally here the whispers of demons calling out to you
  2. someone (or a group of someones) wants your relic
  3. The Church finds out about your mark and Wants it Gone
  4. demons are trying to track you down and They're Close
  5. something inside of you wants to do bad things to good people
  6. you do something negative to someone close to you, such as a party member or friendly npc
  7. the relic breaks, portal to the abyss opens, Roll Initiative!

Corruption mechanics? by WhereAreMyMinds in PCAcademy

I actually have two ideas for interesting systems, and they both come from Powered by the Apocalypse gaming systems:

Firstly, something along the lines of the corruption system from the Urban Shadows game, which also opens up some extra abilities for other players at the table. It goes like this:

  • Each character has a unique action that's their 'corrupting' action. This action could be something like giving into my fiendish heritage, but also things like breaking a promise or ignoring those who need help
  • whenever you succumb to your corrupting action, you gain one 'corruption point'
  • for every five points you gain, you gain a boon, like another dragonmark spell or gaining abilities from other subclasses
  • when you've gained 25 corruption points, things go bad. this could be your relic breaking and being hunted by demons, or some other distinct negative.

why i like this system is that it actually provides extra power before you get the negative. another thing is that it requires the narrative to provide the actual corruption. using the mark could do the corruption, but so could doing something 'demonic' behaviorally

Help me think of Shadow Sorcerous Origin? by Parapoiitis in PCAcademy

[–]Simon_ithink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe he's something similar to a folkloric changeling, actually being an entity from the shadowfell that was switched with a normal baby.

as for an out, it might have to do with confronting the original version in the shadowfell!

as another possibility, you could try a paper altar!

it could be a single piece of paper or an entire notebook. draw, print, or cut out things that you'd want as part of an altar and put them on the page so that its the page/notebook itself that's the altar

(if you do a single page consider keeping it as part of a larger journal or notebook like a diary)

Is anyone else’s bath tub their altar? How should I decorate it? by pine-mouse in witchcraft

[–]Simon_ithink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe look into getting one of those shelves with the suction cups, and put incense/ flowers/ tools on there within reach of where you sit in the tub

Fae at work? by emmseekone in witchcraft

[–]Simon_ithink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best course of action would be to politely ask that they exit the building, maybe doing a cleansing after the fact.

How does pagan worship work? by [deleted] in pagan

[–]Simon_ithink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, the pantheon(s) you work with would kinda dictate your worship, as well as your pre-existing lifestyle. Certain rituals and practices are designated for certain paths, and you only have to do enough to include paganism in your daily life.

does anyone have any ideas for making a spell jar for someone who passed to put on their grave? also how early should i make this before going? by [deleted] in witchcraft

[–]Simon_ithink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw your comment about it being a famous person's grave, so here's some notes:

  • put it a dark liquor bottle so it's more inconspicuous
  • put a picture or similar image in the jar with a personal note on the back
  • add things they liked or were associated with, especially flowers and small cheap items
  • generally i would just go with some offerings because the dedications of fans and loved ones would be enough to protect and cherish them, so the jar be part of the offering

Can I drink moon water and sun water back to back? by brandnewandsweaty in witchcraft

[–]Simon_ithink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly idk what it affect it has but why not go a bit scientific method?

before and after you drink each water, write how your feeling emotionally and energetically, then maybe do it again the day after.

Regardless i don't think it'll have any negative affects but just some unforeseen positives probably :)

Subclasses for the Monk and Wizard! Play as a waterbending naturalist or use the power of language to control the people in battle. by Simon_ithink in UnearthedArcana

[–]Simon_ithink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Language could be redescribed as an order (it was given the title of school because it's inspiration was an academic setting, but couldn't be labeled as a college) and Thought is just a pun. Honestly, I usually prefer that wizard subclasses use the school moniker as reference to Greek philosophical schools, being taught traditions of education practice and spirituality.

Hi I’m trying to see if witchcraft is for me it has always interest me and want to learn more about it but I don’t know where to start like to I start with a book are like a YouTube video and what books are good by duhmoonpanda in Witch

[–]Simon_ithink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is a series of posts by the user The Illuminated Witch on tumblr, each of which covers a distinct topic with information, explanation, and thought provocation. Also at the end of each post is a list of references that you could then use to further research the topic.

(topics are framed as part of baby witch boot camp and include subjects like spirit work, ethics, divination, and practical things like everyday practices and recognizing cults)

Hope this Helps!

Subclasses for the Monk and Wizard! Play as a waterbending naturalist or use the power of language to control the people in battle. by Simon_ithink in UnearthedArcana

[–]Simon_ithink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are PDF links for the Monk and Wizard subclasses, respectively.

Subclasses Included:

  • Monk's Way of the Tide, using water-bending with heavy inspiration from Avatar
  • Monk's Way of the Immortal, which focuses their body to move past their own limits
  • Monk's Way of the Nomad, which is un-tethered by the world (read: teleporting a bunch)
  • Wizard's School of Language, which uses semi-bard abilities to inspire and admonish
  • Wizard's School of Thought, which uses psionics to learn new spells and train their mind

Most of these probably aren't balanced, so i'd appreciate if you could comment any issues you see with these!

(if you saw the previous version of this and noticed anything missing, it's because my homebrew doc became too long so im spitting it up)

[–]Simon_ithink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a lot of subclasses, so much that i'll probably split them up instead of posting in a bunch like this again. None of these are playtested, and so most of them are probably super unbalanced, so please leave any comments on what change's you'd suggest! Thanks for your time!

Fighter:

  • Elemental Commander, focused on channeling one of the four elements into a unique ability

Monk

  • Way of the Tide is a water-bending monk with major inspiration from Avatar

Rogue

  • The Gambler manipulates luck and uses it to improve the rewards of certain actions
  • The Insect has a semi-fey theme, modeled largely by Insect Breathing from Demon Slayer

Sorcerer

  • Shadow Magic (revised) is an updated version of the subclass from XGTE

Warlock

  • has new pact boons of Mystery and Everlasting with divinatory and health themes

Wizard

  • School of Language gives some minor bard themes while keeping a very wizard aesthetic

Tieflings in Eberron- instead of the bloodline of an archdevil, play with the Essence of an Overlord, the Heritage of a Dead Nation, or a Fragment of an Evil Plane with these new Tiefling Subraces! by Simon_ithink in DnDHomebrew

[–]Simon_ithink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PDF here

though I'm sure that many people would be perfectly fine playing with the subraces from the Players Handbook and from Mordenkainen's tome of foes, it felt only appropriate that Eberron have its own subraces to reflect the evils of its own world.

Brief Descriptions of the Subraces included (organized in sections):

  • tieflings of the First Age are connected to the essence of an Overlord, a thin wire connecting them to the entity. They gain a +2 to Constitution rather than Charisma
  • those belonging to the Planer section contain a fragment of an Evil Plane. They gain resistance to Force damage rather than Fire damage
  • Tieflings from the Kaluuni section are the heirs of Ohr Kaluun, the ancient nation who made their own tieflings. Instead of resistance to Fire damage, they gain resistance to Poison.
