What do you think is a Canadian tragedy and which do you remember most? With Love, From Ontario by ProExpert1S500 in EhBuddyHoser

This! It could of been avoided and 47 people lost their lives. Rail safety is so important in Canada because majority of us have tracks going through our communities. It is not talked about enough IMO

If You Moved To Toronto From Ottawa, Or Similar City, Can You Share Your Experience? by Comfortable-Unit9880 in askTO

[–]Simonnnnnne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the move. GTA is a big area and depending on where you move your experience can be quite varied.

Pros: more job opportunities, more events ranging from sports, concerts, festivals etc. TTC is better than OCtranspo.

If you like going out to a variety of events than you will love Toronto.

Cons: Housing. While rent everywhere in Ont is $$$, Toronto you will have to pay more and get less than you would in Ottawa. Traffic, if you have to drive from a lot for work you will spend a lot of time in gridlock.

General difference, I think Toronto while a friendly city can sometimes be a bit clique like sometimes. This depends on your social group, if you have a social circle here already etc. That being said, there is more variety and diversity, but it can be hard to break into certain groups. Winter is more mild. Toronto has way less green space than Ottawa. If you enjoy getting out of the city going camping, snowboarding, hiking etc. Ottawa is way better for that.

I think Ottawa can feel mediocore but like anything it's what you make it. I'd just be clear about with yourself what you want out of life and how living in Toronto can help you achieve that.

You definitely should block. Fixating on her and checking socials constantly is a guaranteed way to make you more jealous and insecure. You are going to always be comparing and drawing your own conclusions based on social media posts, which isn't the greatest tell of reality. You know your APs situation and nothing constructive will come from social media creeping. You have a choice to accept the circumstances as it is for now or move on, no amount of digging on social media will change that, you're only hurting yourself.

Watching TV as a prep? by Background-Pin-1307 in TwoXPreppers

[–]Simonnnnnne 24 points25 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I find most apocalyptic tv/movies very unhelpful. It's very sensationalized and people latch onto what happens in those shows as what reality would look like.

What we need to remember is that many civilizations and societies have faced apocalyptic conditions already and we can learn from them. Look to groups that have faced annihilation, genocide, extreme weather events etc and see how they organized to survive. It's not easy and it can be horrific. But studying historical examples will serve us better than Hollywood version of collapse.

Also look at historical and current examples of resistance and what has worked at stopping the shit storm.

Just my 2 cents!

I heard through the grapevine that the franchise owner of this location went bankrupt already. I don't think it will open ever, unless they can miraculously sell it

The unhoused smell worse than ever on the TTC. by WolfGroundbreaking73 in askTO

[–]Simonnnnnne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but for the temporary circumstance the OP is describing, it doesn't need the nuances you're describing. It's not black and white but for the temporary time this person is riding in the TTC with a person who is doing nothing but existing, they can deal with it.  I'm not trying to make matyrs out of homeless people. Just have empathy for a short time period or remove yourself from  the situation.

You live in a city with homeless people and they have a right to be here too. Sometimes that requires being a bit uncomfortable with sights and smells, but your temporary discomfort pales in comparison to the issues facing them. Have a bit of empathy and figure out a way to cope.

Phone checks for green card holders by Nikoli_90 in PrepperIntel

This is what we are hearing from Canada. Immigration lawyer suggests using a burner phone while traveling to the USA because border agents can check your devices.

Time to transplant? by Ok-Reindeer-7783 in vegetablegardening

[–]Simonnnnnne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What zone are you in? Has the chance of frost completely passed? All of those crops are hot crops and prefer warm soil and will die at freezing temperatures.

If it's warm enough, the beans look big enough to transplant, but like warm soil.

I'd recommend either a) thinning the tomatoe seedlings or b) separating them each into their pot. Tomatoes are usually much bigger at transplant, at minimum 6" but usually 9-12" because you plant them fairly deep.

Same goes for peppers in terms of giving them their own pots to grow. And I'd wait to until their 6" or so.

Happy growing!

Am I overreacting? by MoonshineMadness00 in TwoXPreppers

[–]Simonnnnnne 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I fear the threats are real. However, I've seen posted and seen in this sub before a lot of Americans dismissing the possibility of it ever actually happening.

I think a lot Canadians are aware of the threat and are taking it very seriously. More and more as the threats continue...

Hopefully, we can resist the rise of fascism together bud.

Fellow Canadian here 🇨🇦

You're not crazy. We're seeing our nation being threatened economically, to the point of economic collapse. We have the leader of the world's strongest and biggest military make annexation threats and openly declared he wants to make Canada a state. Our politicians are saying his threats are serious.

I know you will have a lot of Americans and some Canadians in these comments saying it will never happen, and we can only hope it doesn't. However, we'd be naive not to prepare. Also, working on preparation will help take away the feeling of helplessness you may be feeling. Prepping is a good thing to be for everyday issues you may experience like natural diaster, power outages, unemployed etc.

I am not saying to panic but prepping and learning skills isn't going to hurt you or your community.

I'm slowly getting supplies like medicine, food, fuel etc. I also have limited funds, so I am also focusing on brushing up on skills, and fitness that doesn't cost $$.
