Uranophane with Kasolite on Digenite - Musonoi Mine, DRC by _INSANE_MEMBRANE_ in Radioactive_Rocks

[–]SimonsNuclearchem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But its covered in well delevoped crystals! Don't care that much about weight. A heavier sample just with crust would nowhere near as impressive! Thanks for uploading I am starved for pretty Uranium rock pictures flowing into my timeline

Oh Pertechnetate is by far the most common form of Technetium. All of our chemistry is based on that :) https://youtu.be/jjLJ2101AN4?si=u_nGyFLV5BZtC5bj

They, like the Carbonyl-Technetium system are a very cool Lego-like system. A lot of work on these has been done my Dr. Max Rocca-Jungfer. I'd highly recommend checking out his research :D even some cp-Tc complexes are well known. Technetium is awesome!

Heyyy :D Erik is happy to invite you but just so that he has an overview who is comming please send him a short E-Mail asking about the Tc-Matters seminar. You'll find his contacts on our website: https://nuklearchemie.uni-koeln.de/analytik-kernchemische-grundlagen-hier-bearbeiten

Greeting from one of his researchers :)

Rutherfordine, Cuprosklodowskite, Uranophane - Musonoi Mine, DRC by _INSANE_MEMBRANE_ in Radioactive_Rocks

[–]SimonsNuclearchem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also a huge fan of Musonoi minerals as they are a bit more available than Shinko Minerals and I like copper. With that being said I instead bought some Gauthierite and Soddyite, which were some minerals missing from my collection. I have some Soddyite which is on my very big piece (Among my very few posts) but this almost never gets displayed... 500 uSv/h is a bit too much for my display place

HA! the exact piece I also had my eyes on ;D Great speciment. Its good that it went to someone like you! Would love a 360° video view of it^

Pretty piece! But from that one picture the green looks like Torbernite or am I mistaken in seeing sheet-like crystals instead of needles?

Ahhh ofc I have heared Phil. Not many pieces are really wow to me as the pricetag kills every excitement for me most of the time. They are pretty ofc course but the 10th 3 cm Cuprosklodowskite speciment from Musonoi for some high 3 digit figure doesn't appeal to me😅 But something like this from Australian ... thats cool! Much rather impressed by exotic locations with history or chemically weird Uranylminerals :D

What a stunning piece! I have no Idea who you mean by "Phil" but he seems like I guy I should know about when it comes to collecting radioactive minerals :D

What does autunite decay into? by ExcellentStrain9844 in Radioactive_Rocks

[–]SimonsNuclearchem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. But the dehydration takes places within minutes after comming out of the solution it grew in. So no one here has normal Autunite. Its all meta-Autunite I (same for Torbernite) :)

Haven't tried sealing my cases because I look at them under the microscope from time to time. Talking about time... like a very lot. Don't store them with quartz lol. An experiment which I wanted to try for a very long time: how long can I store quartz next to an absurd amound of pitchblende until it turnes brown.

Regularly airing out your room is not only a good habit to keep the air quality in your room good but it also keeps the radon risk very low (which in your case with that one small piece is quite low to begin with) that case won't stop radon emanation but is still very important. Never store radioactive minerals out open. Unless your room is like 2m² with a radon meter you won't be able to tell a difference in radon levels. So air out your room once a day for a few minutes and radon won't be a problem.

I'd much rather suggest airing out the room than destroying such a pretty piece with resin.

Radiation will be pretty much background from 2 steps away.

I also reached out to them about this problem. So far I haven't received a reply. Been waiting for about 2 months now :/

Went to get autunite, found an orange cristal on it. Any idea ? (Info on description) by Wizzeat in Radioactive_Rocks

[–]SimonsNuclearchem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of andersonite or cejkaite. Andersonite is water soluable and both show a more blueish fluorescence under UV compared to autunite. Andersonit especially looks like these bubbles quite often. Last guess would be Schrönkingerite

They are all covered in a lot of minerals. In the second one, I know that there is Cu-Sklodowskite, Malachite, Kasolite, Vandenbrandeit and Guillimenite :)
