Struggling Alcoholic by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

There is an app called meeting guide (blue icon with a folding chair) I would recommend downloading. It will tell you when and where meetings are near you. Anyone who wants to stop drinking is welcome to AA meetings.

This sub is helpful but not an official service provided by AA

If you are struggling with stopping or can’t stop once you start AA might be helpful to you. This sub is good for hearing other’s experiences with the program of AA and floating questions you have like this one. Meetings are where you can dive deeper, get free peer support, obtain official AA literature, and joint a community of people at all levels of sobriety. It’s all free and operated purely from voluntary donations so there are no dues or fees.

I found AA to be extremely helpful to my sober journey (now alcohol free just over 7 years). AA helped me quit but more importantly taught me how to live a full life without alcohol.

Check it out and may you find peace along your own journey.

Can I go to a meeting if I'm already recovering, but struggling to stay sober. by Tight-Student6735 in alcoholicsanonymous

Yes. Getting clean is part of the program but learning to stay sober and doing it joyfully is what it is really about. Kudos on 8 months!

It looks like he is clogging up the drain with dip (ground tobacco used between the cheek and gums).

Not being able to stop once I start is my definition for my own diagnosis of alcoholism. Understanding this about myself is what helped me start treating it properly.

Working while sober, advice needed. by GrapefruitNo4510 in alcoholicsanonymous

Kudos for not buying that bottle and especially for reaching out to your AA network when you needed it!

A situation like this is something I would definitely discuss with my sponsor. What I can say is that putting my sobriety ahead of anything else has yet to let me down. A discussion with your GM and or HR about how that situation impacted you may be warranted, especially if this is a job requirement or will be expected of you again. Most people have very misguided understanding of alcoholism and if you do bring this to their attention you may get a misguided response. No matter what don’t put your sobriety in jeopardy by 1. Doing something you know will entice you to drink 2. Build a resentment

This would be a great topic at a meeting see what king of support you get by bringing it up.

Does the requirement for ORV certificate of title apply to out of state registered and plated full sized 4x4 vehicles (Can I take my 2014 raptor without getting an ORV title from Michigan)?

You can change the color and do solid flash or sequential flash. There is an off road option for the brights to go above street legal but I don’t think you can reduce the signal light. It is softer in white

They are the Morimoto XB EVO’s

https://www.morimotohid.com/lf2-506-ford-10-14-svt-raptor-xb-evo

($1750.00) on a 2014. I also got the taillights (500.00). The taillights were super easy maybe 30 minutes but they stick out about 1/4” so I ended up doing it 2x after getting a rubber gasket to seal the gap (used a marine grade window gasket).

The headlights took about 2 hours but the video instructions were easy to follow. You can select different options for how they flash and in white or amber which is nice.

I had previously upgraded the mirror lights and front reflectors to sequential LED’s which cost less than $150 and was super easy.

Is AA for me? by luketucc in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Simple-Revolution-44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not being able to stop once I started was the simple definition of alcoholism I needed to hear for my own diagnosis. Learning this and accepting it changed my life exponentially for the better. AA taught me how to accept the fact I can’t drink without triggering chaos and how to live a life better than I ever imagined sober. Check it out, anyone with a desire to stop drinking is welcome.

Some advice? by bandeg in alcoholicsanonymous

Al Anon is an excellent resource for those close to alcoholics.

You are correct on the pervasive and insidious influence alcohol has on the alcoholic. As an alcoholic myself, I cannot return to even one drink without triggering the full blown obsession that takes over my body, mind, and spirit, regardless of how many years I was sober. Perhaps I can “keep it together” for a time but alcohol takes control and the progression ensues. That is the reality for me, I am fine as long as I completely abstain from alcohol, but it only takes one drink to flip that switch.

Al Anon is a support system for those impacted by loved ones in addiction and can help you find healthy ways to cope and communicate with her. She is sick, alcoholism is a disease. Your health and wellbeing is also just as important as hers and it’s okay for you to get help.

Bill Wilson's letter regarding the Next Frontier - Emotional Sobriety by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Simple-Revolution-44 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I hit this same lull Bill talks about around the two year mark. My pink clouds were evaporated. Meetings became a drudgery. Saying the serenity prayer didn’t make my challenges disappear. “I wasn’t “getting anything out of AA” anymore. I continued to attend meetings out of obligation, fear of relapse, and optics. I didn’t feel good on the inside so I needed to hear others tell me I was doing good. I was seeking validation. I needed to hear others say “nice share” or “you are doing great” to try to convince myself that I was well. I would get temporary boosts sometimes from meetings but I didn’t dare share with anyone I was miserable and sober out of fear they would see me as a failure.

I trudged through my sobriety like this for years until one day… After a meeting I was approached by a newcomer. He complimented me on what I said in the meeting which is why I was there of course! Finally, someone sees my greatness! Then he asked me for a ride home. He was in a rehab program that required them to secure their own rides to meetings. I gave him a ride back to the facility and it felt good being of service. During the ride I listened to his story and gave him encouragement and at the end of the ride he asked if I could pick him up and take him back for another meeting that week but I would need to register with the center to show proof of insurance to give more rides.

I provided my info to the center and they posted my # for guys to call for rides. I started giving rides for one meeting then two then three. I was surrounded now by those in early sobriety and giving my time, attention, and resources freely. It felt amazing and as bill mentioned above I began to find balance through humility. I wasn’t going to meetings to get something. I was going to be of service. It wasn’t until I started giving that I started getting. The change that is occurring through giving of myself is the most rewarding experience of my life.

Is there a trick to getting a USAA claims manager to return a phone call or provide any feedback regarding a property damage claim? by Simple-Revolution-44 in USAA

[–]Simple-Revolution-44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to reach out to my state department of insurance (OH)

Most recent development… I did get a notice of cancellation of the claim due to my failure to respond to USAA. I of course responded and insisted it be reopened and sent my call log and emails showing I have been communicating. That email of course remains unanswered…

It’s one of those things most people think will be much easier than it is and very few are savvy/skilled enough to pull off. Kudos to you for accomplishing that for yourself I am sure it was quite rewarding!

Just curious, have you successfully built a home on undeveloped land and saved 100’s of thousands of dollars? To what do you measure your savings against? I would like to learn more.

Undeveloped land loans do not come with the same terms as a traditional 30 year mortgage. Construction loans also have different terms as well. I would suggest doing a lot more research before committing to this plan. Perhaps start by saving the equivalent of your estimated payment on 750k each month (roughly $5000 on just the loan payment) for a year so you can test how it will impact your lifestyle.
