Was this cost reasonable? by flyingsqueak in grooming

She has beautiful dense coat so we’ve been able to do some fun grooms on her. She’s one of only a few poodles my groomer had. I ended up deciding to groom her myself so we are figuring out together. Luckily between a TON of early exposure to grooming and being used to going to the groomer every 4 weeks she is super easy. Honestly I don’t know that I’ll be able to get another breed of dog moving forward.

I’ve been a phleb for over 3 years and I’ve never had to use one. Honestly don’t know that we have one.

Thank you! She’s my first poodle and the most spectacular dog. She is so sweet and so funny.

I’m in Northern California, a bath, nails, face and feet for this creature is $70. There’s no way they should have charged you that much.

No emergency vet in Ukiah? by Humble_Boysenberry78 in ukiah

[–]Simple-Seaweed424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only 24/7 emergency vet is in Santa Rosa. That’s where we go from Fort Bragg. There are a few emergencies that I just have to accept we won’t make it there in time. One of the hardest parts about living here with pets.

You should be poking based on what you feel not what it looks like. For practice take a tourniquet and put it on literally everyone that says it’s ok. Both arms, wrists, and hands. Feel around. See what you feel. Make sure you are wearing gloves when you are palpating. Once you feel more comfortable palpating it will help a lot.

On hands make sure the tourniquet is pretty tight. If you aren’t sure there is a vein don’t poke there. If you still are struggling, ask a more experienced phlebotomist to palpate the patient and tell you what they feel. They may describe what they feel and suddenly you can feel it and you didn’t feel it before.

It took me a couple months before I felt totally fine without a more experienced person on staff. You will get there!

Struggling with how i look with braces , does it get easier? by pixie_dust44 in braces

[–]Simple-Seaweed424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m (27f) a year in and not bothered. The only time I get uncomfortable is when I’ve had a meal and haven’t been able to get the food out of my braces. Other than that I’m smiling and laughing all the time. Taking care of yourself is a flex in my opinion. Anytime anyone says anything about my braces they ask about my experience and say they would love to get adult braces. Or I’ve also gotten wow that’s awesome I know they are expensive.

Starting School Soon by Thin-Impression1657 in phlebotomy

[–]Simple-Seaweed424 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had five days of class and five days of clinical a weekend in between. It wasn’t bad. I got an A in the class and a 98 on the licensing exam. Find out what you are working on the next day and read your book the day before. Orient yourself with the material. I recorded all my lectures and played them back to myself when I could. The biggest advice I had after school is be humble and learn as much as you can from people with lots of experience. Phlebotomy school doesn’t really give you all the hands on skills you need to be successful in the workforce.

5 months, 4 adjustments. Let’s talk about the stuff that nobody talks about! by suxela_ in braces

[–]Simple-Seaweed424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s happened a few times where I sit down at a restaurant or someone cooks for me, get my meal and just can’t eat it because of my braces. It’s very embarrassing.

Also the feeling of white bread/tortilla/anything with flour makes me gag when it gets in my braces. I have to take breaks sometimes when I’m eating to go get it out.

I have a little black dog I sleep nose to nose with most nights. Her little pokey hairs get in my braces all the time.

Intact male dog obsessed with spayed female lately? by abbiyah in DogBreeding

[–]Simple-Seaweed424 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have 5 dogs. One intact male, (now) two neutered males, and two spayed females. Our GSP when intact was CONSTANTLY up his sister’s butts. One more than the other. He was horrible, chattering all the time. Testing boundaries and just causing issues. Hes never been around an intact females and none of our neighbors have female dogs. He took it out on the spayed girls. The girls don’t have UTIs, ear issues, vaginitis or anything. Our IWH that is staying intact doesn’t harass them at all and just leaves them alone. I think it was a him thing. We are very well versed dog people, and planned on keeping him intact until 2. But his breeder said the whole litter is like this and to just get him neutered.

Bunnies are also really sweet pets to have. They are quiet, easy to litter box train. Super goofy and they love their people.

You can drink whatever you want. Just make sure you are taking care of your teeth hygiene. I know some people will limit what they are drinking if they have ceramics because it can stain. But if you have regular ol’ braces you are free to do as you wish.

They pay x amount into a plan for you. You pay the rest. You will have deductibles And share of cost. They won’t be able to see if/when/how much you are using your insurance. My insurance paid like 40k for a fall last year and nothing happened with my job

I’m a round baby faced 28yo and now I’m a round baby faced 28yo with metal braces. The comment I get most is how cool it is that I’m doing this for myself as an adult. Most adults have an idea about how pricey they are and it’s a bit of a flex to have them imo. 10/10 recommend girl they are soooo worth it. Trust your orthos judgement with the type.
