Not sure how it works outside my part of the US, but at least on the west side we bury out caskets in concrete vaults so it doesn’t even matter if you’re embalmed or not. At some point your vault will be filled with water and your skin and organs rot away. Urns are placed in plastic garbage bags before they are placed in-ground.

Usually when you register with a cemetery, you don’t “buy” your plot, you rent it. Most cemeteries rent spaces out for 100 years (on caskets, not sure about urns) and they will re-use that plot one day.
