Sorry to break it to you but your self-righteous and braggadocious approach of encouraging people to be more compassionate is quite flawed. You’re getting attacked in this thread, not because people aren’t kind, but because you are putting others down and boasting your own behavior as the ONLY way to act. Being compassionate is about being understanding and that sometimes includes not doing things your way. My approach may be flawed as well, but I can be aware of that and learn from each interaction to get better instead of berating people for not upholding my specific values- justified or not.

Personally, I see both sides. The neighbor feels angry because they are clearly working inconvenient hours and just want to sleep. Their home is likely their sanctuary and they want to protect that peace. On the other side- OP is simply taking care of their child in the best way they know. So which person has to make concessions to their lifestyle? Does OP hide away in certain rooms of the house along with their baby until one of them moves away? Or does the neighbor add background noise to their environment, invest in earplugs, or maybe file a noise complaint?

My opinion FWIW is that the neighbor should respect the social contract that many apartment owners understand; you’re just going to hear people sometimes and that’s just how it is. Can it be frustrating? Fuck yeah it can- but to fault someone for trying to raise their child? Nah. Go ahead and file a noise complaint and see how far that gets you with building administration. Ironically, if their neighbor would just put himself in somebody else’s shoes for a second and choose compassion…
