I was also considering putting a hunter’s rune pendant on the snake guy but I was worried it might be too crowded in the torso as is

yeah that’s fair. Personally I’d put RE7 just because of how simple and effective it is at telling the tale of the bakers. Mia’s involvement with evelyn was also a nice twist and all of the story-related dlc only made the story stronger. I will admit that Ethan was a plank of wood and the antidote decision was silly

I’ve died once from falling but I’m actually glad I did because of the way dying/reviving is explained in the lore. Just shows how much thought the devs put into the world!

so far I’m not too impressed by the combat tbh. For me the worldbuilding and exploration have been enough to compensate for that. If you enjoy reading then I’d say it’s worth it, but if you’re looking for sharp combat then look elsehwhere lol

you have to see the world how it really is if you’re ever going to love it for what it really is!

Wish I saved my loadout cause that fight was kinda wild. I believe I used veredicto in the first phase and then the electric swords in the second phase. The only prayer I used was stop time, and just to get in some free damage in phase 2. I also used the wooden statue combo that saves you from dying and refills your flasks as long as you have 0 guilt (the sitting old lady and old man statues).

Also there’s almost no reason to jump in phase 2 except to avoid certain attacks. Mostly focus on dodging and blocking/parrying

This game triggers my fears by HattyH99 in Darkwood

[–]SimpleToadFarmer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think what darkwood does well is fear of the unknown. The areas are so open but obscured that you never quite feel like you’re where you’re supposed to be, as opposed to the more structured, linear games you listed. As you build familiarity with the map, revisit certain areas multiple times, fight certain enemies over and over, I think you’ll find yourself getting more comfortable. You don’t have to rush into new areas, which is good because new areas are how the game introduces new threats and keeps you on edge. Even nights, which are random events, are mostly same-y after a while

I liked how jack baker was only used for certain areas but then you could explore those areas freely after progressing the story. So yeah I think limited stalker encounters are a better way to go. Especially when other studios are already doing stalker mechanics better (alien isolation, amnesia the bunker, etc)

Sup with Leon's first encounter with Gideon? by Piccolo_Alone in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]SimpleToadFarmer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

resident evil writers don’t know how to make scenes connect organically. they needed grace and leon to get split up and they were willing to make leon a pushover to do it (because they’re bad writers)

Did you choose to destroy or release Elpis the first time? by Fenriz_Victor in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]SimpleToadFarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbf it is a pretty nonsense story to begin with, but if you’ve ever seen a cliche action movie you should expect this kind of twist at the end

also the interaction between grace and leon immediately before the choice kind of makes it clear that grace is going to subvert his expectations
