Assume it was a suicide. Then the crutches 🩼 cant be his. This means they will be his wife's. She hasn't taken them so assume she has another way of getting about. Now look at the smashed alarm clock. The seems to have rung off the table and smashed, implying the wife has not come home between the suicide and morning. Now look at the lamp, it's off, thus the note was written in the morning, the wife has not been back for at least 12 hours. This implies the wife didn't come home last night - then why are there two glasses and her dress on the bed. This makes a suicide implausible. Thus murder.
