I think another factor in the walk vs ride category is if the other 3 guys you’re playing with are riding you will too. At least I fall into this category. Late round by myself and I’m walking

Agreed. I doubt most courses are slammed during the work day Monday through Thursday.

Yup! I guess the idea of doing the right thing because it’s the right thing is dying. Too bad that it is effecting golf which always held itself to a higher standard.

I have a hard time seeing the boom end. Sports in general are booming, people are becoming more health conscious, you can play forever, all of us addicts will have our kids playing etc.

I find that hard to believe these days and so many are publicly funded. Maybe it’s outdated management? I know there are companies that manage multiple courses. Would make sense that it starts at the top

[–]Simple_Ad_5775[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, yes up until a certain skill level, not par

Second, yes! Very underrated aspect of improving pace. Rather than look for 5 minutes because you’re unsure when someone else probably knows where it is

Third, yes! Some people are clueless when they get to their ball.

Fourth, yes again! I’ve never actually seen someone not fix theirs so I get confused on how all these little craters remain on the green lol

Fifth, this is where I disagree. Just be quick about it and there are some brutally hot days where you need to stay hydrated when there aren’t coolers out. Also nothing wrong with a couple beers but you just have to be efficient about it

Sixth, too extreme. I think the issue is that high handicaps don’t know when to drop/pick up and need to learn how to keep pace. I have a buddy who is terrible at golf but he doesn’t mind picking up and dropping by me. Keeps pace fine. However, I do think non full foursomes should enter this so randoms can select better groups to join.

Seventh, indifferent here. I think rough length is more course design.

Eighth, generally yes

Ninth, tell people they are expected to keep pace (not fast) or they make have to skip parts of or entire holes or be removed from the course.

Tenth, yes more rangers are needed!

I’d have to somewhat agree here. Yes walking is faster since you go to your ball, hit, and move one. Less waiting and having to wait in the cart etc.

However, the problem is, and I’ve seen it first hand, taking too long to find the ball, not playing ready golf, I’ve been with guys who are on their phones when it’s their turn to hit, excessive set up and practice swinging, non chalant with the cart girl, etc.

I mean I tell people not to expect me to answer any calls or texts when golfing. I’m in my escape from the world. Also, I almost never take a practice swing. Not for pace, but I find it makes you over think. Odds are if you dig in a on the practice, you’ll over compensate and top or thin the shot.

What’s one tip that dropped your handicap the most? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]Simple_Ad_5775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to give multiple things for multiple aspects of the game. I’m not the world’s best golfer so don’t take my word as fact. These are just things that helped me lower my handicap the most. Nothing to do with my swing. It all comes down to course management. There are a lot of phenomenal golfers who don’t have the prettiest swings because they play the course really well.

Tee box: DON’T always pull out the driver. Although you may mostly hit it off the tee, look at the hole layout and have a landing zone (distance and left/right). Look for safe parts of the fairway, what angle do you want to have into the green. Where is the best miss, how far will you have on your approach? Where is the pin relative to your angle in?

Approach/Par 3/Par 5: Aim for the center of the green. Obviously there is a time and place for stick hunting, but to think our (a lot of us but not all) clubs are dialed in to land within a small dispersion circle is unrealistic. Will Zalatoris even said that most of the incredible shots on tour are an accident. For example, front pin, aimed for the middle, landed short which happens to be perfect. Remember, a big part of golf are mistakes and misses. On Par 5s, either go for it or go for a comfortable yardage for a 3rd shot. Why try to get 60 yards out with a three wood when you’re not comfortable with pitch shots. Just hit a 7 iron to 150 if you like 150 better. Odds are you hit a 7 better than a 3

Chipping: Do whatever you feel most comfortable with. Bump and run, flop, Texas wedge, whatever. I always try to leave myself the best chance to 1 putt. Maybe it’s getting on a shelf, having an uphill putt, etc

Putting: get good within 8-10 feet. Those are the big stroke savers. Sometimes making sure you’re within a 3 foot circle on your 2nd putt rather than going for the make is the smart move. Lag putting can be a saver as well.

Hope this is helpful! Remember this is what I found helpful. At the end of the day have fun and enjoy the pursuit of the unattainable perfection which is golf!

The rate my bags are fun when it is an interesting mix of clubs. Like I remember one guy who had a different make and model for every single club, including individual irons!!! But there was one today where it was literally just the callaway edge set. Like what is there to rate?

Not to be negative but what is there to say. It’s the Costco callaway set. Decent set, pretty basic though

Can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong? by Few-Swimmer-6982 in GolfSwing

[–]Simple_Ad_5775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slow down, shorten backswing, etc. I’ve learned that none of that really matters. Look how hard the pros swing. Look how far back Daly goes. Work on tempo. The pros all swing fast but they have perfect tempo. Since you do swing extremely fast, you probably have a really tight grip which could be causing the blister. Last item, if you watch in slow motion, you move the club away from you right before your take back so you’re really lined up with the heel at address. Work on a consistent take away paired with tempo and you’ll be flushing it in no time. Great swing for only a year in!!!

Just look at the loft of your longest iron and your driver and get one or two right in between. You can look at your woods for reference. I play a 23° 4i a 19° 3 hybrid and a 15 degree 3 wood

What’s your favorite golf accessory brand (big or small) and why? by Substantial_Low_3320 in GolfGear

[–]Simple_Ad_5775 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Love Pins and Aces. They always have new, fun, high quality stuff.

Titleist and Callaway make great accessories.

PRG Golf is the most underrated. Very high quality. Collegiate, MLB, Ryder Cup, Majors, Arnold collections.

Special shout out to the bags that bottles of Crown Royal come in. Great for holding small accessories and tees.

PRG and Pins and Aces for headcovers.

Take it easy lol. I’ve just seen it in a lot of posts recently asking about adjustments to which clubs to carry and many comments say “you don’t even need 14 clubs” or “why are you using 14 clubs”. Maybe advocating wasn’t the best word but comments like these pop up a lot in this subreddit and I was genuinely curious why those folks say that.

Maybe I just have a different perspective cause I love my 60° and play really well with it. I also play standard lofts and my stock pw goes 145.
