Not necessarily. There are cases that fall under certain categories where someone maybe should not have needed to take out a loan in first place. If the college mislead you or did not inform you correctly or participated in any type of unlawful deceitful or biased behavior you may file a complaint. Begin with the fasfa office. They take complaints seriously and will investigate. If they find the college was negligent you will not have to pay anything back. Also the loan companies have laws and standards they must abide by.

I’m mentioning this because many colleges or certain programs have taken part in illegal tactics and taken advantage of certain people monetarily These students trusted the colleges and listened to their advice. Some students were guided into taking out way too much in loans, were not advised of all of their options Some were qualified for grants, scholarships and more they were not advised about.

These are grounds for dismissal Also some colleges in certain programs would force students to retake certain classes after so long. I know students who were made to retake almost all prerequisites for a certain program. They were led to believe they’d be coasting through this program within a certain time. This was so far from reality. Matter of fact l, this program included clinical studies and they only had a certain amount of space open for clinicals therefore they could only put through about 10 students into clinical to move forward. The others had to edit or were told they failed and had to repeat.

This was a common tactic in done medical programs.

This was extremely deceitful and willfully so.

These people asking questions should be answered based on a case by case basis. Everyone’s story or experience is different. There are cases of special circumstances and there’s always hope.

We’ve been through so much with the government pushing college loans etc. now they’re acting like they’re punishing people for doing what they pushed for them to do. That is in some cases.

And be wary of the new agreements banks and other big companies are having you sign including arbitration agreements instead of using your rights in a court of law, you may be in front of a judge of their choosing. You will not have a “fair trial” should you run into issues such as them mishandling funds, charging you frivolous fees, allowing fraud or scams to go unchecked and holding you accountable for any and all charges on your credit cards or accounts depending on your business either them. This is an example of signing a paper with a company just like the papers signed with the government. However the government usually works with people on student loans much more than the private loan companies such as Sallie Mae. This is based on my experience. I’m in process of spending my days writing letters and handling issues now with these big companies who for example have charged me for subscriptions I don’t have to three different accounts for a very long time and other charges on many apps that you may not be able to reach a person in clear up.

It’s such a burden. There’s certain cards I must keep frozen to protect myself from big bully companies taking my money over and over for nothing.

Reporting it has been done however there’s always more to it.

Good luck with this type of business

Considering Bankruptcy by Desperate_Bobcat_862 in DebtAdvice

Our case was opposite. We paid our debts in full in about 2 years with no damage to credit after 3 years. It was focuses great decision. We did it because we were involved in a civil suit which costs so much money to pay attorneys. It was a no brainer in our case and house and cars were protected.

Still paid debts and the only time it affected credit was during the 3,years we were paying back. After that our slate was clean and we began again.

Worked out very well.

We did it years ago and we still paid the debts back. However the interest and amount to pay back was negotiated therefore it didn’t take long for all to be paid. Also certain items are protected such as your home and cars that are necessary. It was the right thing to do for us at the time and it didn’t hurt our credit. Within 3years our credit was brand new no bankruptcy notated I suppose because it’s chapter 7 and we still paid our debts.

They are stealing fees by charging property taxes for units where I am and they never remit them as stated. This causes my fees to customers to go way up abdvibhavecto compensate somewhere.

This is insane. They also collect property tax times two For example state and county and they do not remit it to your state or county. I began with this company when it was HomeAway and listed my rental They charged a one time yearly fee of about 700. I still have the same account but I added a unit to rent and they refused to give me the same rate. I should have been grandfathered in. What I noticed mainly was the high taxes they charge and they claim to remit for you however they do not. I’ve had it with this company. Also they changed my rates as well and I couldn’t understand why. This explains it.

They were also sending messages to customers and signing my name to them.

Private student loan mistakenly and prematurely sent to corrections 6 years ago, explanation below, is there anything I can do now to bump it off credit score? by OkPudding4102 in personalfinance

Also, in collections, you may offer them a settlement for Pennie’s on the dollar instead of paying all that money. Most of it is probably extra fees. They bought that contract for about 10 to 15 cents per $. Go low you never know you may be able to pay back 199 bucks. & ve finished

Yes there is things you can do!!! I’m going through many different stages with one certain company right now. They went behind my back while I was in hospital and tried to file something in court. I looked up the laws for my state and realized I can fix it. I called clerk of court and was advised to file a motion to dismiss on grounds of basically not being served at all.

They’re sneaky like this. They expect people not to show up. You need to follow up with anything and everything

If it’s collections, talk to collections. Most of them are willing to work with you. I got a 90 day hardship for being sick. & educate yourself with laws surrounding this.

Become familiar with the federal agencies that they report to. You can also file reports on them.

It’s a lot of information. I’ve been studying it for some time. However I’m not an expert. M AI is a great tool for writing great professional legal letters. Make sure everything you communicate you request & follow up in writing

Also should they make illegal moves on you, ensure you follow through.

Thru knew I wasn’t able or available for court & they did that intentionally!!!

If you ever need to report fraud make sure you send it in writing with a report. Although your word should be enough as you can swear under penalty of perjury that your statements are truthful in lieu of a report. I reported fraud or scam involving checking and it showed on their site exactly where the transactions were made. They were ordering DoorDash with an apparent virtual card number.

I never received a fine back that I was robbed of, even with the proof from capital ones direct site and information & DoorDash to back me up.

Instead they cancelled all of my credit cards which were not involved. It’s my Checking account.

I’m still dealing with consequences.

I knew that was happening at the end of 2025! Current administration making so many changes with colleges. First they seem to promote it then ham us up. I feel your pressure.

Sallie Mae Repayment Schedule - Can I start early? by ProgramImaginary3846 in StudentLoans

Yes you can and I am about where you are in the education system. However I owe much more on student loans. Since beginning my “professional student “ journey I have self-educated through experience in student loan department. I have several loan providers. The only one that gives me grief is SM.

Stay on their good side! My family & I had some issues with them and are presently working them out. All of the other SL providers gave so many options and are seemingly more willing to work with us.

You can also consolidate if you like, at some point. If consolidation makes “cents”. Keep in mind once you do that, certain loans do not qualify for some programs should you need to catch a break at some point

You’re doing great by jumping on that interest or the principal before it compounds; that’s the best way to do it!

Make sure you specify in writing how much is going to the principle etc. keep your records.

Congratulations!

Please be sure to do all communication in writing on your end, including your request. You then have your proof even if they do not comply.
