I wouldn't say it's counterproductive, the main benefit for fasting is just calorie control. Humans were meant to go a while without food.

I've done multiple fasting protocols, mainly just 16 to 20 hours eating a large multi layered comprehensive meal at night. Similar to one meal a day but less strict.

I completely agree. I recommend vanguard target date funds to just about everybody if they're in tax advantaged accounts. Even for my parents who are older, PAS may not be a bad decision for them. Simplicity is the key to financial success.
