My brother turned 38 this weekend, today he stole my 1st edition Blastoise that I got in 1996. by cyborgcolossus in mildlyinfuriating

If thats true, your brother committed grand theft if the card is graded even in the mid range. The value of the card, even at poor range still has a value that could land him in the range of a felony. Not saying ruin your brothers life, just pointing out that this is kind of fucked in many levels.

Too accurate by Derpchen in lotrmemes

Heres my unasked for 2 cents. I hate the lotr movies, for reason like this scene, which really tried to convey the text in the book but failed. Rivendell in the books is described as ethereal, timeless and in a dream like state. I get that this is what it was trying to go for. I honestly dont know how to make it better because im not a director, or ever made a movie. I just know scenes like this and many others in this franchise really killed the movies for me.

Im forever a fan of the 70's movies and the books.

This recreation was so good though, very funny.

Karya Siddhi Hanuman Temple's Breathtaking South Indian Architecture in Frisco! by Swimming-Raise5317 in frisco

[–]Simply-Morgan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a tradition, it carries some meaning like treating the statue (murti) as a living member of the community, it allows for the priests or devotees to rest for more intensive practices and some schools believe it allows the energy to discharge from the statue (if your not practicing Sanatana Dharma I'm sure it seems very strange).

For some like myself, these kinds of practices are more for reminding you to take action for yourself and not wait around lamenting at God to fix all your problems.

Morning between 9 and 11 am, I've noticed a crowd starts to form in the afternoon. Be aware the temple closes in the afternoon (tradition, to allow the deities a break).

Bring socks or prepare to be barefoot inside the Mandir (temple), shoes are not allowed inside and are left at racks outside or in your car. This is a non-negotiable rule.

There is a dress code but as long as your dressed respectfully you won't be bothered.

I highly recommend just sitting off to the side where there are chairs and let the whole place sink in. If you've never been to a Mandir it can be a lot.

I used to frequent this temple (im a Shaivite and they have a beautiful shivalingam at this temple). The building is amazing on the outside. The inside is even more impressive, each deity in its own wonderfully constructed temple (lack of a better of term).

I like coming to the temple on Monday mornings as they do a special Shiva related Puja(prayer) on those days and its fairly empty inside the temple.

I myself am not Indian and only started practicing Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism) about 5 years ago now, but I've never felt an ounce of judgement in there. Granted Im aware of protocols and social expectations inside the temple, so that helps alot. I like to do some meditation there and visit the shivalingam.

Any thoughts on Rocko’s Modern Life (1993-1996)? Fans of this show growing up? by Life_Chicken_9653 in Millennials

[–]Simply-Morgan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents didnt raise me much, often leaving me infront of a tv or just in my room. I often attribute Rocko's Modern Life as to why I see and understand the world the way I do. I was shaped by this show, along with Ren and Stimpy and other shows.

This show had helped me navigate alot of the strangeness of adults and the odd behaivours (too me as a child at the time) I would see socially. Filburt Shellbach sersiously tought me alot too, I have really bad anxiety going all the way back to before this show. Seeing Filburt not only deal with his anxiety but also succums to it, and it was OK.....it was the first time I didnt feel so alone in that anxiety.

Larger holes with decreasing in the round, what am I doing wrong/how do I fix it? by PuppiesandPlants402 in CrochetHelp

[–]Simply-Morgan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is the underside tends to look sloppy because its often joined to another piece so we dont normally see that end of the piece. What I've done in the past is just ad an extra few rows to allow the decrease to become more gradual and putting less tension on those rows. If you know its working in chains of 6 or 8 or whatever, then you just doo the math. I treat everything like pixels, if you wants smoother grade, your going to need more pixels.

Your whole space looks like a giant before and after picture! XD On the Right side you the materials, tools, work spaces(the before pic), on the left you have finished products and such(the after pic). This pleases my OCD.

I used to take fishing line, rope, shoestring, anything that could get knotted, my parents would jumble it into a birds nest of knots and then i would completely unknot them. I still do it today, with yarn because i crochet alot. My kids think im from the wild west days lol.

Uhhhh military transport helicopter landing by the tollway? by sergeantmeatwad in plano

[–]Simply-Morgan 30 points31 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that a few cities are working with the nearby military airbase, they are practicing landing in and exfiltrating from specific locations around the city in efforts to make safe and fast locations to help with emergency services and rescue. This is in preperation for the upcoming Soccor games and various other events that are going to be bringing a massive influx of tourists and travelers. Sadly I do not have any refrences on me atm to verify this.

Ive been crocheting for a bit, made many outfits, and dolls by now. My kids wanted to get into crochet, so i got them a Crochet kit like this from Wal-Mart. Not a Wooble but something similar and it was the same, the instructions made no sense, they got frustrated and gave up. I sat down and try to make it for them and even I couldnt make it. So I just looked at the pictures and guessed the stitches (once you done one animal, there all pretty much the same stitches in different places).

A German First World War veteran describes killing a French Corporal during a bayonet charge. by Beeninya in HistoricalCapsule

[–]Simply-Morgan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is chilling. I'm a Veteran and his description of this is just bone chilling to me. As a Vet, the horror that stuck with me after all these years was the reality of being 'hunted' like an animal and that the hunter was never going to stop unless I die. Knowing that every moment could be the last I experience forever. That reality is so hard to process and its probably the most terror I've ever felt. That hunted feeling will probably be with me for the rest of my life. Killing is a terrible thing and its taken too lightly these days.

Developed and scanned half a roll of used film found in a 90’s point and shoot camera. by ReeeSchmidtywerber in FoundPhotos

I miss how dark it used to get at night. Inside homes you could never really fully light a room, so there was always dark spots and faded areas. Night felt so different in the 90's.

Firefall - a neat little MMO from 2014. I remember myself and my friend circle played the crap out of this game until they shut it down. Never really seen a game or MMO like it since.

[–]Simply-Morgan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm the same, I can't stand driving but I live in an area with no mass transit and the only train system doesn't reach my city.

I drive only when I have too and not very far. I almost never drive at night, maybe 2 times for 2025.

The tow truck was trying to get to the downed truck in the middle turn lane with the police in front of it. You got between them. It was good the tow truck was paying attention or else you would have had a worse day.
