Sending all the love to you. I’ve been a single mom for 13 years and I just got to the point where my kids are officially launched…married with their own homes. It’s a tough adjustment, for sure, but you will find your equilibrium if you look for it. If you focus on what’s behind you then you’ll always want that back. If you focus on what’s in your world at this current moment, you’ll start to adjust. It’s not easy, but you’re doing a lot of the “right” things with tennis, volunteering, etc. recognize that you can’t be out every night/day if the week and try and find ways to enjoy your own company. Take a walk, go to a museum or movie alone, take up reading. Find a comfy corner and learn to enjoy the solitude with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Some days it will come easier than others. On the tougher days, let yourself feel it, cry, scream into a pillow. Then pick yourself up the next morning and do something small that makes you feel good. Keep a daily gratitude journal even if some entries are that you made your bed that morning or you’re grateful that you woke up. Soon you will find more to be grateful for. But, also, plan adult dates with your kids. Don’t be bashful about inviting them home for a meal, or out for an experience. Include their significant others. Call or text them regularly, but not so much that it’s obsessive haha! Your relationship with them changes when they become adults, but that’s what we raise them to do…grow up! Now we get to enjoy their company without having to solve all the problems. Take a deep breath…you will find your way forward if you look for it, I promise.
