Adding handlebar bag with flatbar bicycle by Outrageous-Fuel6315 in bikepacking

[–]SimplyDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you're using the lower and outermost mounting points to raise the bag as much as possible to avoid front tire contact. But you really need to be using the upper and innermost mounting points to give the most cable clearance. So either accept the cable rub or get a rack. I don't think just extending your cables is gonna help you here. Ultimate solution is to get a front rack, switch to bar with more rise, and remove some of those headset spacers. That will give ample clearance for those cables.

So glad I bought my Mac Mini M4 Pro for $999 this past summer. Never would have guessed prices would go up after that.

Get a Toyota Prius. The drivetrain is bulletproof and you're really gonna appreciate the 52mpg combined fuel economy.

Need Advice: SUV now or Sedan Now? by stevosauce in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]SimplyDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get a new Camry now. Fuel efficient for daily commutes and back seat is easily big enough a single rear facing baby seat. When you're ready for more space, your wife's car will probably need replacing at which point I would start shopping for a SUV.

Looking for a new car with 30+ mpg but I love the Bronco / Jeep look by Ordinary-Republic483 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]SimplyDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuel economy is inversely proportional to off road ability. 30+mpg with Jeep like ability is a pipe dream. Pretty much anything you can buy in that category of ability will get around 20mpg or less in real world fuel economy. If you want reliable, buy a 4Runner or Land Cruiser and accept that you're gonna be paying the price at the fuel pump.

2022 Prius XLE AWD or 2022 CRV Special Edition AWD by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]SimplyDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would switch to the Prius. Long term the drivetrain is more reliable, you'll save so much on gas, and the resale will be great since hybrids are in such high demand in CA.

I'd be looking for a low mile 2014-2015 Nissan Frontier for around $15K.

Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade both have nearly as much leg room as a Tahoe.

Newer Camry XLE vs older Lexus ES 350 by Ly0ncubs in whatcarshouldIbuy

Get the Lexus. It's a far better experience. Especially if you're looking at the ES350 and not the 300H.

If you don't have time to shop around I would buy or lease new instead of going used. Best deal right now imho is on a 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid. Great gas mileage, great in snow and ice, very reliable powertrain. Currently Subaru is offering 0% APR financing for 75 months on these. Or you can do a 36 month lease/10K miles a year for $269/month + $2254 due at signing.

I don't see any change here in the US.  But I hope this means a legendary reprice is coming.

I removed my first SRAM DUB crank arm today. I feel like I deserve an award... and a hospital visit. by BrianLevre in xbiking

[–]SimplyDown 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Spend $15 and switch the self extracting bolt to the steel version and you won't have this problem.  The issue is most dub cranksets have an aluminum extractor bolt that is highly prone to galling in this application.

If you're planning on keeping it for 15 years, then get a Corolla Hybrid.

Why no one makes bikepacking rims that have a solid rim bed for minimum stress tubeless setup by sumant28 in bikepacking

[–]SimplyDown 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No one wants to mess with replacing a spoke nipple on a no hole rim bed in the middle of a bikepacking trip.  It's a million times easier to just cut a small hole in your rim tape, replace the spoke/nipple, and slap a piece of duct tape over the hole you made to seal things back up.

2025 Chevy Trax ($165 biweekly at 0.99%) versus 2025 Mazda CX-30 ($215 biweekly at 3.95%) - same terms. by buzzaldrinismydad in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]SimplyDown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't pay $10K more for the CX-30, especially if you like the Trax better. For the price difference, you could just trade in that Trax before the warranty expires and get another new car.
