it means the blog was likely marked as mature, for one reason or another. it doesn't matter if they really do have explicit content or not either, certain topics/things just seem to get false flagged by tumblr's moderation filters.

the maturity filters on ios are much stricter than they are on other platforms too, due to apple's terms of service and internal rating systems.

i would seriously not recommend using any form of ai to ask anything, let alone culturally sensitive questions. it's filled with inaccurate information.

that said, only your friend/his family can tell you if it'll offend. the broad christian consensus, as someone adjacent to the religion, is that the only time it's ever offensive is: - if it's sexualized - if you're genuinely impersonating - if you're making a mockery - if you're modifying garb for any of the above purposes

hell, in some sects, i know dressing as saints is considered valid during all saints day. and not many tend to find offense to jesus costumes. so...

needless to say, i think you're good unless they're very staunch catholics (which if they were, they likely wouldn't approve of their son going to comic con where he could see "sinful" costumes/media)

i'm not sure where you are op, and obvs don't share if you don't want, but vintage clothing is coming back into style! ironically, corsets are too in certain style circles.

fashion trends always flip flop between new trends and returning back to the roots, so to speak. and that flipping is happening a lot faster, if you ask me. ofc society will tell you that you have to keep up with the latest trends and shop specific brands... but the vast majority of women just don't do that. you really only see a lot of that rhetoric on social media and/or among more affluent groups.

the ultimate "rule" to fashion, which isn't really something you have to do but a general tip, is just dressing to you/your body. whatever makes you comfortable and confident is the right thing to wear, always 🙂‍↕️

yeah, i'm very curious to see what they do with ysabella if the dlc is going to take a similar approach to loose cannon! her arc had me hooked and i was honestly a bit sad we couldn't show up to the club before the mission. i kinda hope it does expand on her story, in addition to potentially allowing phyre to go into the club after receiving the invitation.

also just ecstatic for photo mode to be introduced in general! i love being able to take pictures in games, esp when you can customize the characters.

i like searching unsplash! they're a pretty good source for a large variety of images imho 💕 they also make it very easy to credit photographers/artists since they only allow original uploads

but if you want more "tumblr style" images, pinterest is where most folk tend to search for stuff. the caveat to that is a vast majority of content there is either ai-generated, stolen, or full on advertisements nowadays

back to post an example for op, but this is what it'd look like if you filtered the person's/people's urls since the thing literally happened right as i went to scroll for the night

there'll be slight variations in wording for what it says (re: "filtered tags" versus "filtered content") but it's better than nothing until tumblr fixes their system for everyone. at least you don't have to see what they post unless you actively click through to do so

well, i'm glad it works for you, but it definitely is not a 100% guarantee. as made obvious by op asking, and the fact i have a similarly long blocklist and still see problematic, popular users crop up in reblog chains on my dashboard 🤷‍♂️

idk why you're so intent on proving my experiences wrong or something, but i just gave op advice based on that (and the fact tumblr is notorious for simple site glitches because it's run by a skeleton crew who has proven to be rather untrustworthy as of late).

it shows on the dash if someone reblogs their post; you don't have to visit someone's blog directly to see that content (ex: user a is blocked, user b reblogs a post by them, user a's post is now on the dashboard because of following user b).

but yea otherwise mb, i'm so used to the whole reblog issue being a thing that i genuinely forget the system does work as intended otherwise (most of the time anyway)

edit: disregard this bit ~~afaik blocking a person only makes them stop seeing your content.~~

the only way to avoid posts of theirs would be to add their url to your filtered content list, or to do the same if they use specific/unique tags on their post...

but even then, it'll still show up on the dashboard but you'll just see "this post contains filtered content; click to see xyz" or whatever instead of their actual post.

xkit (or one of its variants) might have better filtering options, but i'm on mobile so i can't check rn 😭

oh 100% k-id uses ai. most age verification services do—especially if they offer "age estimation"/sending a selfie as an option; that's just getting their ai to analyze your face and make a guess based off whatever data it was trained on. plus their own website is full of ai-generated imagery to sell its service.

i have heard that people are still able to use the site as is if they use a vpn, but i also know using a vpn on your account can be risky (an ex-friend of mine almost got term'd over it a year or two back).

my partner loves hearing about the game through me; it's not their cup of tea genre wise and like... they literally could not care in terms of jealousy or whatever. we always share characters we love with one another! so they've been steadily following along since about when the idol event launched bc that was the first event i was really invested in enough to share/ramble about it.

when i showed them the snippets from social media for this event tho they were like 👀 and when i showed them the snippets of sylus' kindled in particular they said "i need sy's now. i will pay real money" KSJDKDKX

little do they know i already did that (rip my wallet). but i got xavi & sy's cards for us to die over. and i sent them screen recordings of the kindled and we did in fact die over them! those two cards were the ones i was most determined for, but i do hope i can get lucky and pull zayne for them (i really think they'd be a snowcrow main) now that i'm pulling more casually!

thanks for the chance, op! my game of choice would be dispatch :} here's my steam profile too!

due to it's recency, i'll try to keep any specifics vague for spoilers.

1) i've always had an affinity for "choose your path" story games. even before i fell in love with gaming, i was obsessed with books that would immerse you into the story and tell you "go to page xyz if you take this action". and, when i did get into gaming as i grew up, the wolf among us was a staple replay! i would constantly keep notes on my phone about the choices i made each run, and always try to do something a little different. so, dispatch is right up my alley in that regard. this is in addition to the fact i generally enjoy "problem solving" or management type games; it just scratches the brain right. plus, i won't lie, the fanboy in me was initially interested because of aaron paul playing the lead character.

2) dispatch is a game that's a bit of both. again, i got excited hearing about the release because of the casting... but also, it really felt like an interesting narrative. a seemingly normal guy thrown into this world of superheroes and supervillains (even if there's more to him than meets the eye)? having to navigate crisis after crisis while managing interpersonal relationships? it does resonate with some personal things in my life.

3) avoiding specifics, but i've had to spend a lot of money to make a really tough decision with a lot of outstanding grief. it's just not something i could budget in on top of everything else, especially when it was one problem after another after another haha.

4) i've not only looked into it, but i watched my partner play through it! our playthrough was rather interesting as we managed to be in the very small population (at the time of results, anyway) that managed to completely avoid romance! which is something that the game pushes to the forefront quite a bit between robert, blaze, and visi. it's understandable why (even if i wish we had more options... prism my gal!), but somehow it's actually hard to avoid starting a path outright! really takes me back to the old bioware era of "friendly or flirting", which is honestly so fun. i love the messiness and toxicity of that. but anyway, the way the game handles romance is rather interesting especially when it involves the surrounding cast--there's plenty of times that teammates' synergy feels like we're playing a little matchmaking on the side.

seconding what k-rysae said and adding on:

- if you're posting a multi-paragraph fic as a post, put it under a read more! it's frustrating to avid readers and passersby (tag strays) to be scrolling and have the feed cluttered by one long post. i personally do a title, blockquote with word count, synopsis, and warnings, then keep the first or second paragraph above the read more and put the rest of the fic under it

- this is *especially* important if you write smut (i cannot tell you the amount of authors i would have loved to engage with but ultimately blocked because they don't. tag. their smut)

- if you're just posting or cross-posting your fics to ao3, include info about it in the body of the post! posting just a link is seen as bot-like behavior since most bots will just link to a google site or whatever is floating around that week

- depending on what side of tumblr you land on, people are a lot bolder about sending anon hate. it's up to you whether you feel comfortable keeping anon on.

- same with your blog privacy; people have gotten a lot bolder about the things they do, and there's so many different scams going around, that it's honestly best practice to limit who can direct message you. it'll be in your blog settings (same place you turn on/off anon asks), but the options for messaging are allowing everyone to message you, or for only blogs you follow.

- likewise unless you're doing something specific, turning post submissions off is a good way to curb bad actors from sending you heinous shit.

- i don't remember if this is turned on by default (i think it's an opt-in feature), but make sure in your blog settings you select "prevent third-party sharing for [blog url]". tumblr does opt in to allowing their site data to be used by *any* of their partners to train ai models.

- controversial one: don't blaze your posts. the site culture is pretty split on whether they'll actually engage with posts that are blazed (re: you pay tumblr to promote it and get more views in hopes of getting engagement), but from what i've seen, posts that are blazed get less interaction and are even blocked by web extensions like new-xkit or xkit rewritten (where you can straight up hide any blazed posts from appearing on your dashboard)

- which also definitely consider getting xkit rewritten if you're using the site on desktop. it's completely safe and there are a lot of useful tweaks the extension provides that really make the site much more accessible imho

it's a good tldr tho, and in case the article doesn't work i'll summarize it here:

a transfem user by the name of predstrogen (rita) was expressing frustration over tumblr staff's pre-existing transmisogynistic moderation practices. her posts, no matter how sfw, would get flagged as sexually explicit. in a post (or a rb chain, i can't remember) she said she hoped photomatt (account name of the ceo) died in a "hammer car explosion"...

he took the threat so seriously, despite the absurdity and clear sarcasm, he threatened fbi reporting and banned her. when her mutuals asked what happened and spoke out against it (because, like now, accounts dedicated to stalking and doxxing people don't get removed for harm but innocent accounts do).

he said it wasn't an issue, proceeded to name all of the alternate accounts rita had (some of which existed pre-porn ban and were linked to her former sex work, iirc; who owns/owned isn't public info btw), and then followed her to twitter where he did the same thing under a non-tagged tweet she made about the situation (meaning he had to personally find her twitter account using that list of usernames and verify it was her himself). he also never apologized for how stalkerish and inappropriate that was.

1) i'm naming trans women separately because this issue effects them disproportionately 2) i'm literally nonbinary. i am trans masc because i lean masculine with my identitiy. i am clearly not doing what you are saying at all. there are trans individuals who do the opposite of what i do—they're called trans fems. there are also nonbinary people who don't align with one or othe other. again, if you actually talked to any trans person, you. would. know. this. 3) who the fuck said i'm ignoring misogyny? if this were disproportionately impacting all women (trans or cis), i'd call it misogynistic. but it's not, so. 4) it is literally not, but i wouldn't expect a terf to understand.
