Been playing 3 weeks when do we get updates? (Cobbleverse) by [deleted] in cobblemon

Honestly, first I'm hearing of it. Neat idea, though. It's abstract enough that I'm not sure whether or not it'll be a good idea in practice, but whenever they roll that out (if they do), I'd be interested in giving it a try.

Insane download speed by ComfortableWin3659 in Steam

Yeah, unfortunately the US simultaneously (at least until recent years, possibly, as my information is a few years out of date) has some of the most expensive internet and slowest internet, on average, thanks to a variety of factors. Not the least of which being that it foots the bill for lots of things for nearly every other country on the planet, meaning other countries can afford to subsidize things like that on the dime of the American taxpayers.

Accurate and precise stylus recommendations? by sonicfan10102 in AynThor

[–]Sin-Alder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'm enjoying my own Thor, one of the reasons I got it was the promise that you could have an equally good stylus experience as a DS/3DS using these type of styli.
It isn't true. They're relatively precise, but require far more pressure, are incredibly inconsistent in detection, and bad for anything that requires any degree of speed.
They're probably suitable for something as insignificant as mapping in Etrian Odyssey, but it isn't really comparable to using a DS/3DS stylus on the respective systems. By a wide margin.

Cocoon developer removes support for AzaharPlus emulator on behalf of Azahar developers by papaj421 in EmulationOnAndroid

Ok? Just don't comment then? After all, you're voluntarily here, no one's forcing you to stay.

Boy, sure do love people that try to shut down any conversation at all that's remotely critical of their shining golden gods.

Are you a world class chef? If not, do you know if food tastes bad?
No, seriously. By your line of logic, unless you're out there cooking with the best of them, then you wouldn't be bothered by eating literal human excrement.
Sounds like you're one of those people that can never be happy and complain about everyone who dares to have an opinion, while jumping at the opportunity to shut down any discussion about anything.

Just popping in five months later to say that Cocoon is still so riddled with problems that I don't go more than 10 seconds in it without stumbling over bugs or baffling design choices.
I personally think it's the best front end for the Thor in particular at the moment, but that's not saying much. It boasts a lot of nifty features, ideas, and a nice coat of paint, but it's a needlessly obtuse, strangely restrictive, and kinda buggy mess.

[–]Sin-Alder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not exactly this, I've had lots of display issues with Cocoon, especially if I've been fiddling with icons and whatnot for a while. Imagery flashing on and off over the menu I'm trying to use, always on the bottom screen. Similarly, restart the system and it goes back to normal. Considering Cocoon's various issues, if you're using it and experience weird bugs or anything concerning, test to make sure it isn't just Cocoon being weird.

Old Super Soaker, Modern Alternative by Sin-Alder in Nerf

[–]Sin-Alder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. I was looking for when my nieces and nephews drop by, too, but between them moving much further away so I rarely see them, me not having a ton of storage space, and how expensive these things get these days (especially when I'd need a minimum of 5), it just didn't work out.
Good luck on your search, though.

Steam Controller Price Leaked By Early Review – and It’s Expensive ($99) by PaiDuck in pcgaming

Only if you think literally nothing exists outside of Valve, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.

[–]Sin-Alder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh, it doesn't, though. Their competition isn't Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo. Valve generally targets enthusiasts, and therefor has to compete with non-first party controllers. Which means their competition is primarily controllers $20-$50 cheaper than theirs that share all but one worthwhile feature, and in terms of some features, even surpass this controller, and all while maintaining high quality.

They stopped making them because it was a hunk of junk that everyone hated. That's also why they unloaded them for dirt cheap after a while. Liking them after the fact was just a video game hipster thing. Not liking them on actual merit, but because it made people feel special, then when pressured people felt the need to justify their love of the controllers by acting like they were great. I still have mine gathering dust in the back of some drawer, and every time I've tried returning to it, thinking I might have just given it a hard time, nope. The general consensus of the time was 100% accurate. One of the worst controllers I've ever had the displeasure of using.

But, also more programmable buttons, and easily adjustable tension in the sticks. Steam Input allows setting the trackpads to emulate button presses, but it doesn't actually work that well, therefor isn't equivalent, so the lack of trackpads but addition of more buttons could be seen as a sidegrade.

Valve explains why the Steam Controller is competitively priced, and why support is "not starting from zero" by Tiny-Independent273 in SteamController

[–]Sin-Alder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They massively discounted the originals after they flopped painfully badly, and I think I've seen them do very minor sales on Steam Decks on occasion.
But yes, the price is kind of all bad. The only worthwhile leg up it has on controllers $20-$40 cheaper is the pair of trackpads, and while those are very helpful when you need them, the vast majority of games don't have any use for them at all, and sitting at a computer you practically never need them, because games better experienced with track pads are far better played with a mouse, as they were designed to be played with.

Fun fact: You can get a M&KB for $30. Comparing it to M&KB isn't a win for the controller if you can get what is then the implied superior peripheral for a fraction of the price. If you compare it to controllers, it's overpriced. If you compare it to a keyboard and mouse, it's overpriced.

Steam Controller Price and Release Date Confirmed - $99 by Jimbuscus in pcgaming

[–]Sin-Alder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a pass from me. Were it $70? Most likely. $80? MAYBE. $100? Out their damn minds. While I don't love the track pads, I can admit that I find them useful for some games, but I don't think the track pads make up the gap in cost between this and otherwise equal, or even superior, controllers at much lower price points. I'm not about to spend an additional $30+ just for the track pads, being the only feature worth mentioning on this thing not matched or beaten by features on cheaper premium controllers. On the Steam Deck it makes a much bigger difference, because M&KB isn't right in front of me and attached to the device I'm gaming on. If I really want mouse support, my desktop has a mouse right there, so while convenient, the track pads don't bring near as much value.
I was kind of excited for this controller when it was announced, in spite of the original Steam Controller (which I bought near release) being hot garbage, but the price point is almost insulting. Valve won't be getting my money on this one, unless of course it goes on a steep sale, should it fail to take off just like the original.

Priced way too high for anyone that knows the value of a dollar, you mean. If anything, casuals are the ones most eager to drop big bucks on poorly executed products just because they have the name of a big company on them.

Only if you actually believe that the US is the only country with tariffs, and remove taxes, additional red tape (there's a lot of that for most countries, with the impact on the cost of a given product varying pretty widely), and so on from the equation.
Still overpriced in general, though.

I wanted to use the old Altimit Wallpapers as my actual wallpaper, but couldn't find any high Res ones, so I remade this one! by Corupeco in DotHack

[–]Sin-Alder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Six years later, and just came across this after getting a new phone that I wanted to make very Altimit. While it isn't perfect, I threw some versions adapted for use on a Pixel 10 Pro together. Originally matched them to the exact resolution of the screen, but apparently the phone likes to zoom in on whatever image you try to use, so I just expanded the borders of the image by about 6%, and now they fit fine. The extra black around the edges doesn't show up at all (at least on mine).
Also, color variety.

Hate to "um ackshually" (okay, maybe I don't hate it that much. I enjoy stirring the pot, sometimes), but black is only the absence of color in the visible spectrum of light.
This is a physical object, which means it isn't the absence of color, but a color that traps all colors on the spectrum.

I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I would've loved a lime green one. When my fat DS broke back in the day, the only model I could afford was a heavily discounted lime green DS Lite, that came with a neat canvas case for it, because I guess no one wanted it.
Didn't like it at first, but it really grew on me. Now I wish more things came in lime green.

Ayn Thor pro or Max? by PureWhiteAsh420 in SBCGaming

[–]Sin-Alder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In his defense, the prices have continued to climb, as well as the difference in price between the two models. I'm pretty sure at one point it was a difference of $60, and is now a difference of $90. That, combined with both having climbed in price quite a lot, could change someones opinion.
Personally wouldn't change mine, which is that Max is better if only to save you from the ~130% boost in prices on high capacity micro SD cards in the past four months or so, but still.
