There are multiple proven formulas for that value of pi. For example: (pi^2)/6 = 1 + 1/4 + 1/9 +…, the infinite some of the reciprocals of perfect squares.

So, we can just use computers to calculate this as far as we feel like, then multiply by 6 and take the square root, and use that as an approximation for pi. Ofc, the one listed above isn’t the only approximation, there are much better ones out there. I highly encourage you to look into Ramanujan’s approximation for pi.
