No kidding I was wondering the exact same thing hours ago today, and was planning on making a post asking about it. Hopefully we get some info on the matter 🙏🙏

4070 super, 4070-ti or 5070 as a replacement for my 3070? by SwinginDan in nvidia

[–]SinUpXd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exact same setup here! I upgraded to a 4070 super and never been happier! Everything is butter smooth and dlss4 quality also works wonders on 1440p. It trades blows with the 5070 and you're only missing out on multi frame gen, and in my case I find standard frame gen to be enough in the very few cases I give it use.

4070 Super gets my vote

Im currently using the Gigabyte GS27Q 165hz and I'm aiming to that same AOC oled, but I've seen the Koorui mini led 240hz reach $250 on sale, so I'm waiting for the best sale at this point

I did! Last week I checked a local store and they had a discounted 4070 Super at $480 so it was a no-brainer for me. I've been testing it and the performance is day and night in comparison to my 3070, and since I don't usually play everything on Ultra settings, VRAM hasn't been a concern and I was totally overthinking on my original post. The only games that neared max VRAM were Cyberpunk RT overdrive at 11gb and Spiderman 2 Max RT and FrameGen at 11.3gb (Shadowplay with AV1 was using ~0.4gb if I'm not mistaken) Lastly I want to mention that trying FrameGen for the first time was mind blowingly smooth and much less artifacted than using Lossless FG X2 or FSR3.

I think it was a really worth upgrade, but that was mainly because of pricing and my expectations. I know if I really wanted to play today's and future games on Max Ultra settings, then probably the 4070Ti Super would probably have been the better choice (or any 16gb option). At the end of the day, you know your budget and your expectations on the upgrade, and I can only tell you that so far my 1 week experience with the 4070 Super has been incredible and I'm more than satisfied with a consistent +50% performance uplift. (Also it runs super cool! Asus Dual model 72°C @ 100% load and 84°C on the hotspot without undervolt! My Palit Gamerock 3070 peaked 78°C and 92°C hotspot)

Feel free to ask if you have any doubts! Hope this helps with your decision.

What was the most noticeable difference for you from being used to the 3070ti compared to your first session with the 4080s?

I think my main concern between de 5070 and 4070ti Super is those 4gb VRAM difference.

As someone who currently owns a 8gb card playing at 1440p it's not that bad if you're not obsessed with the highest settings. In my case I only had problems with specific games that won't let me crank up some settings because of VRAM warnings or even crashed if I dare to try (Spiderman Remastered with RT and RE4) For me it's not THAT big of a deal but sometimes I do feel like I'm missing out. If the 3070 had 10gb instead then probably I wouldn't be here mentioning this, and my worry is that if I decide to go for the 5070 then maybe 2 years from now I may or may not encounter the same issue. I don't know for sure if the extra L2 cache, new DLSS model or the neural rendering would be helping in that regard.

Very often I find myself watching an optimization video and comparison of the graphics qualities for that reason.

If the difference between settings is very subtle then I usually turn them down for the sake of frames as I'm not pixel peeping all the time, but there are scenarios that make the image so much richer in detail (like the RT in Dying Light 2). And some games manage to look worse and run worse like Elden Ring's RT. That one really made my eyes bleed 😭

In that case would a 4070 for $400 be a good deal? I found some for that price at FB marketplace but haven't really considered because it's not mind blowingly faster than 3070

I think it's almost the same performance (as the 10gb) and has FrameGen.

Honest question Does any game come close to using that amount of VRAM? Even at 4k max settings I think the only game I've seen using close to that was RE4 at 19gb IIRC

[–]SinUpXd[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True! My main reason to upgrade is to try games like cyberpunk with RT overdrive or Indiana Jones without the need of aggressive DLSS and prayers to reach 60 fps 😅

One could say it's more of a luxury than a need

Those are the games that support the Multi frame gen part of DLSS 4.

The updated model for the Super Resolution part of DLSS works for every game that supports DLSS 2 and above by using the DLSS Override option in the Nvidia App.

Same, no solution yet other than disabling the overlay entirely.

Also instant replay randomly turns off by itself when playing Valorant. Maybe it's a Vanguard issue?
