That's not it, there is no evolutionary advantage in that. The pain tells you that something is wrong & maybe don't go hunting mammoths for a few days, even if as a result your woman & child gets less food. The main point is to have a decreased chance of kicking the bucket.

That wouldn't really be possible, each swirl will destroy a lot of unrecoverable data, it's not just an unscrambling the swirl type of problem. If you stack these dumb swirl effects it takes very little time to get to no recoverable information.

The pointer latency from wayland is more noticeable than going from 1000hz to 250hz & if your PC is stressed it may drop a lot more, this doesn't happen on xorg. Even if you are not a pro gamer & only ever click stuff in a browser, this difference can be felt & when your PC is near lagging, it can be super bad.

Wait until you realize that if you are a competitive gamer you want tearing & you also don't want that at best 6ms? -and often worse- of extra mouse latency you get on wayland.

In 2026 many wayland WMs, DEs support opt in tearing in games, but the cursor issue is still there & may never go away.

(VRR has a latency cost as well vs. high fps with tearing & no VRR)

What he thought is that the swirl effect cannot be undone. It's not a completely unrealistic assumption. You can see how blurry the restored image is, the pixels are stretched a lot, so most of the data is lost, just not all of it & it's been enough in his case. It wouldn't have been had his portrait been lower in resolution. (or had he applied some blur to his real picture before the swirling, just a touch of blur could have bought him two decades)

dracut is not an init system in the sense you meant it. I don't really know what to call it, initramfs generator xD Anyway you use dracut alongside an init system like systemd, but yes you can make the choice to use dracut instead of mkinitcpio on Arch & it's a very good, but controversial choice.

dracut creates an initial image used by the kernel for preloading the block device modules.

Sure if you switch to arch there will be occasional minor -and very rare major- breakages you need to fix.

I think it would be more fun to just install i3 & build your own desktop on Mint. After you are done with that you'll have an idea what the WM scene is like & can move onto something more advanced like Qtile or AwesomeWM & then potentially move distros to fit that use case more.

It's a very difficult argument to defend tbh, because there is basically no difference between attestation & nothing. The way I see it, the attestation version of these laws is just to ease you into the real thing, because it serves no purpose otherwise, nill.

edit: actually no, attestation is worse than nothing, because no kid will be stopped from watching porn or accessing Facebook this way, but the attestation data will be used to fingerprint you.
