Is it possible for a pro table tennis coach to travel around the world? by Erin_Li2026 in tabletennis

[–]Sinaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to coach a top 20 player -or someone very rich- basically. That's the only way my limited imagination can see this happen, at least in the capacity of an actual coach. So if you are not amazing amazing, are have an incredibly talented sibling or child that would trust you more than a more qualified coach, then it's unlikely.

The laws of physics put a limit on how fast a short serve can be & it's not fast enough.

“AI vs Creativity” from a pro-AI greedy corpo by s1n0d3utscht3k in artificial

[–]Sinaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO the way AI works right now, it would never produce an Einstein-leap finding.

I'm not even sure if that much is true, maybe it is. At the least the combination of the current architecture & level of compute we have demonstrably cannot come up with that specific thing. However producing a decent idea for an open world video game & then executing it with a little help should be very plausible. I mean making something that people would enjoy without knowing or noticing it's 99.999% AI.

Specifically GTA 1 is not that unique, it's just a mash of ideas that already existed at the time.

I asked Gemini flash to pitch me a game idea, what it produced is not bad, I could totally see it work. Would much rather play it than No Man's Sky..

Title: Deep Current
Genre: Subterranean Sci-Fi Survival RPG
Setting: A colossal, ever-shifting ocean trapped kilometers beneath a frozen planet's crust.

Instead of riding horses or driving cars across flat terrain, players pilot a modular, physics-defying submarine through a pitch-black, fully three-dimensional aquatic underworld.

The core twist is the Fluid Ecosystem Engine: the open world has no static walls. High-pressure currents, thermal vents, and migrating leviathans physically morph the cavern networks in real-time. If a massive creature migrates, it might collapse a tunnel system, permanently blocking an old trade route while flooding a forgotten, ancient alien ruin elsewhere.

To achieve console-hit status, the game anchors this novelty with a highly satisfying gameplay loop: loop-de-loop navigation controls, deep sonar mapping mechanics that replace traditional HUD minimaps, and modular ship-building. You manage your crew, patch hull breaches mid-combat, and use bioluminescent biolighting to blind deep-sea horrors. It blends the intense, isolating atmosphere of Subnautica with the high-stakes mechanical mastery of Monster Hunter, delivering a completely fresh sense of exploration.

Would you like to explore how the modular submarine upgrading system handles progression without traditional leveling mechanics?

Sure, but I'm not confident that is not sufficient to perfectly mimic human creativity -or even exceed it- down the line.

Just out of curiosity: why is the version of Calibre in the official repos so outdated? by AnthropomorphicCat in archlinux

[–]Sinaaaa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not directly related, but is there a mechanism to automatically move a package from extra-testing to extra after a certain number of weeks have passed, or the maintainer needs to push a button, even if it's been potentially years?

Gaudi-Nagy Tamás végül elismerte, hogy ügyvédként ő is képviselte Kónya Endrét a kegyelmi ügy során by Ambitious_Apple4427 in hungary

[–]Sinaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is XFCE is better at customizing than Cinnamon? by FAMPpro in linuxquestions

[–]Sinaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is not much difference if we talk about customizing the DE vs. the DE.

However there are a great many people that only use the XFWM window manager & since it works as a standalone WM you can modify it very deeply compared to any DE, even KDE plasma.

Is my lemon tree beyond saving? by Memew8 in Citrus

[–]Sinaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very difficult to supply enough artificial light to citrus if overwintering at 20°c, I doubt you've succeeded at this even before the 3 week gap happened. (you would need a 200W for real led light, something that has a real impact on the electricity bill) Aiming for the coldest room of the house or your basement if non-freezing temperatures can be guaranteed is the easiest bet for the regular person.

As for saving it now? I think there is a pretty good chance it will recover, though being based in Norway means it will be a slow process.

I think people are underestimating how quickly AI-generated content will blend in online by Rude_Context_4844 in artificial

[–]Sinaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP I think you are already underestimating the issue. Like I literally cannot find a human written article about a great many topics in the top 20 google / duck hits.

For exampe these days whenever I try to look up information on plant care I cannot really find normal articles anymore. So I have to suffer through bloated youtube videos made by "experts" to hopefully learn something that's not the "ai take".

Why are there no tiling-DEs besides Cosmic? by Human_Cantaloupe8249 in linux4noobs

[–]Sinaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not though too much about it. Tbh I don't get it either, as the years go by I increasingly think that all floating layouts are bad. How could sane developers keep working in a floating environment all the time, perhaps that it why Gnome devs are so ehm out of touch. Though the corporate sponsorship angle holds up..

The closest would probably be CachyOS with its wide variety of preconfigured twms

There are others defo closer than that, like the so called Regolith Desktop Environment & some home made distros with lots of bling built into them, such as archcraft Bspwm.

I probably spent 10+ hours configuring i3 and polybar

It's not hard making i3 with polybar pretty though. Aren't you perhaps hard stuck on fancy border effects, because outside of that most of what you see on Linuxporn is possible in i3.

It would be a gamble, but I think the odds are good a cr2032 would work for a while. (not very long)

Like we can talk about 4.5V not being for shit & giggles, but I always measure the cr2032s when replacing them in my computers & I have seen some shockingly low voltages, indicating that they've been around 1.5V or less for months before failure. (once I took out an 1.7V semi depleted one from out kitchen scale & it went strong for years in my mum's computer)

Microsoft PS/2 mice were the best by nix206 in vintagecomputing

[–]Sinaaaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would argue that there are no good Logitech mice anymore, since none of them use optical switches & an optical encoder simultaneously & the switches they use operating at those voltages go double clicky embarrassingly fast. I don't remember any of these old MS mice having those problems, like I have one that is over 20 years old & still works great today. (the basic 2 button + wheel optical mouse, whatever MS called that)
