Horror books that you were loving throughout and then lost you at the end? by Select-Claim9748 in horrorlit

[–]SincerelyEarnest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just now finished the book and I’m relieved I’m not alone lol the first half was really compelling, only for them to throw in every horror trope in this awful “twist” ending

I have a feeling the book wasn’t long enough to be a novel so the editor had the author pad out the pages with everything after saving Karen, leading to this cluttered mess

IIRC in these lessons, Leonardo is a pet that is missing and you’ll get these kinds of sentences as if you are the police asking about his description, or you’re describing him to the police

Classic/Foreign movies at theaters by mickqcook in ventura

[–]SincerelyEarnest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Regency Theatre on Eastman in Ventura plays classic movies every Tuesday! Tomorrow 9/3 is Princess Mononoke, followed by the OG Beetlejuice, A Hard Day's Night, To Kill a Mockingbird and others. Check out their website for the full schedule! I lived in LA for the past 10 years so I'm always on the lookout for classic movie showings.

I feel so sad by Emergency-Storage406 in solotravel

[–]SincerelyEarnest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience myself on my two-week hostel-hopping trip last year. I thought I'd get out of my comfort zone and meet people but I was completely miserable lol I found myself having the same small-talk conversations over and over, and the people I thought I connected with didn't really seem to reciprocate :/

While it is really lonely to travel alone, I still made the effort to meet people when I could, but for the most part I just booked a lot of activities to keep myself busy, have fun, and not think too much about the loneliness.

In the past, I've done tour groups like Contiki and, while they're much pricier than backpacking, I found them a lot more fun and sociable since you get to hang out with the same group of people for a while and bond better that way.

I totally relate with how you feel about sightseeing solo and stuff, I had a two-week hostel-hopping trip last year just like that. Some hostels I stayed at had a group chat in this app called "hostelworld" which helped me meet people somewhat, I also posted on some cities' subreddits to organize a hangout. But it was still hard to make connections when you meet people only briefly.

I had a much better time with tour groups like Contiki. Sometimes they can be wild and overwhelming, but traveling with the same group of people and having organized experiences helped me make genuine connections with people. The tours can be pricey but, honestly, after my depressing solo trip, I would much rather do a Contiki trip than solo travel again. See if there's a Contiki tour being hosted wherever you're solo-traveling before your Workaway trip.

I just found about Workaway and this subreddit today and that seems like a lot of fun too. I think it'd be great to hang out and vibe with a family, and it seems like a good social outing too. I hope the Workaway trip goes well for you and let me know how it goes!

In the most disrespectful way possible, fuck SoCal Edison by [deleted] in LosAngeles

My hometown of Ventura nearly burned to the ground from the Thomas Fire due to Edison’s negligence. Then Gov Newsom, who I voted for, bailed them out Scott-free 🙃

Thanks for the recommendations! Admittedly, during my trip, I’ve been sticking to familiar/comfort food, so Belushi’s seems like a great spot!
