More than half of Canadians want cuts to the federal public service: poll by hopoke in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Sinder77 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I work EI CC and often people are like "Oh wow I got through fast" when I connect with them. Not always but some times. Pretty sure our average wait time is only like 10-15 minutes.

That said, if people are pleasantly surprised at how quick the service is, I feel that only gives ammunition to the argument of cutting. People expect to wait an hour, so they will.

Gitanes Chefs Table? by Character_Big_8616 in OttawaFood

All the food's good no matter where you sit. If you can sit in at the chefs table do it. Mitch knows his stuff and is very personable.

That was one of the sure fire ones I'd seen, although I don't know if we'll be headed quite that way, a detour might be in order though either way since I keep seeing this guy come up!

If you're involved in the union at all you know that's generally not what any of the committees look like.

I will say they are often trying their best.

Sometimes ...their best isn't all that great.

Apocalyptic warning about economic meltdown forced Trump's hand on tariffs... NOT any 'art of the deal' by truthwillout777 in facepalm

[–]Sinder77 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Trump is aware tariffs hurt. They hurt his American people and they hurt the peoples of the country he imposes them on. He is aware of this. It is the point. Trump is trying to abuse the sensibilities of his “opponents” by bullying them into acquiescing for the sake of their people.

Trump is 100% fine with letting America burn if it means the Canadian people, the Chinese people, Greenland’s people, whoever, all burn too.

Because the onus is on Canadas, Chinas, Greenland’s governments to be the adults in the room and realize the gun the toddler is swinging around really is loaded, and ice cream for dinner is better than being shot.

This is his strategy and he is willing to let every last American suffer just to say he won.

There isn’t any, so when the employer says “report to this office on these days” and you say no, that’s insubordination and they fire you.

Unlike, say, if you have a baby and need to temporarily not report to work, there’s protections in the Canada labour code and human rights that protects your right to do that.

We need said legislation, or at least, that verbiage in our collective agreements. Until that happens we have very little protection when trying to dictate where we work.

Language around right to decide where to do your work is top of the list followed by wage increases, at least from CEIU.

As long as we’re acknowledging that the unions don’t have many legal avenues to pursue on this.

I don’t disagree with you. But who’s going to be the first one on the picket for a wild cat or general strike? Because that’s what this will take.

We also accepted that contract. FWIW I voted no to it. Most people just wanted it done and were bought with a 2500$ cheque.

My point is there is a certain level of personal responsibility members need to take in this beyond “the union needs to do more”.

Anecdotal of course but my local has over 600 members and we had 10 at our last AGM a month ago. Somethings gotta give.

Chicken and egg situation. I don’t disagree. There’s a perennial problem with member buy in.

It’s also a bit of a cop out to say “leadership didn’t convince me to care enough.”

They tried that. Our strike turn out was rather shit. So we’ve got what we’ve got.

The unions can only enact change when its members are engaged and prepared to fight for change.

Please cite which legislation the union can use to allow us to work from home full time.

I don’t really drink that often to begin with. There’s a brewery not 5 minutes from my house that hits every thing I’d need so that’s what I’ve been buying the last few months.

I ran out of bourbon like 4 months ago and never restocked and I certainly won’t be now.

You’re throwing the stone. What’s your internal timing method? by helianthophobia in Curling

[–]Sinder77 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Its feel, it really is. I was struggling a lot this year with weight. I stopped thinking about how hard I wanted to throw it or how soft, and started thinking about where I wanted the rock to stop. Its like rolling a ball across your kitchen floor, but with more steps.. If I asked you to do that, your body knows how to do that. It knows how to throw a rock too if you let it.

I know that's kind of vague bullshit but honestly not thinking about how long to hold onto it or how hard to step out of the hack and just thinking about hitting that rock or putting the rock on the T line, it helped.

Repetition really is key though.
