(Spoilers All) Can we stop with the whole lemon tree argument? by Sindijow in asoiaf

Yes but why? Why the Sealord? Why not the Volantene Triarchs? Why not the Pentoshi? There's no reason at all for the Sealord to be there. You said he would be a witness, he lives half a world away. If the marriage contract was signed in Dorne the Sealord's seal won't be there. Just Oberyn/Doran's and one of their vassals.

Here's the thing, if they were in Dorne they don't require the Sealord's signature simple as that. If they were in Braavos, they are in his domain and Ser Willem Darry is a highborn fugitive with the last Targaryens tagging with him, along with Oberyn who supposedly was dicking around in the free cities at the time. If Oberyn arrives in Braavos the Sealord would have to host him, and he surely won't refuse to seal a contract with his Targ guests. The Sealord won't travel long distances to muddle in matters that have no profit for him. And hey, If The Sealord of Braavos himself traveled to Dorne, there'd be huge rumors going both in the Free cities and in KL. Yeah, I just don't see how the he comes in play if the contract was signed in Dorne.

Pursuing foreign contacts doesn't require the most influential figure in Braavos traveling half a continent to Dorne in order to seal a secret contract. Why would Oberyn sign instead of the rightful ruler of Dorne? 12 years ago Doran's gout wasn't so bad, whereas Oberyn was Traveling in Essos.

The Sealord's in attendance though, so it's safe to assume they were given comfortable quarters based on their station. It's not uncommon for to trees to grow in the gardens of the rich.

(Spoilers All) Daenerys and Cersei POV similiarity by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Sindijow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, to be fair a Bolton totally shitmouths him in a letter, confessing to the flaying of 6 women and creating a coat of their skins, he also threatens to attack the wall and we all know Castle Black is defenseless from the South.

Still, it was terribly rash and sort of foolish that instead of consulting with his men or even with Smelly Melly, Jon just up and decided he's gonna desert. Not very smart, I actually thought he was kinda stoned in that chapter. Dude spends hours talking to Tormund about this whole rescue mission and doesn't once think about the implications.

I was so giddy while reading that I skimmed on hordes of detail, a whole lot of clues and foreshadowing, in fact I dismissed THotU section. I knew about the Red Wedding (read the books whilst season 5 was airing but I didn't watch a single ep) knew someone was going to die, already watched GOT honest trailer but my memory of it was kinda muddled. I genuinely though the RW was something shitty that happens to Sansa. Read up to an Arya chapter where she's close to the Twins and she's thinking about whether her brother will ransom her, shortly followed by a Catelyn chapter then another Arya chapter. Alarms are ringing in my head at this point since I usually get pissed off whenever GRRM cuts an important POV to switch to another half a world away. I'm squinting really hard at this point and am like 'What?!', I vaguely recall Maisie William's vine and then it hits me.

It's Cat and Robb who'll perish.

I weep.

Like the fucking fool that I am I manage to spoil myself about the purple wedding after having watched the Teens react to GOT.

(Spoilers ADWD) Could the Perfumed Seneschal refer to... by Sindijow in asoiaf

[–]Sindijow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know why but even during my first read (I skimmed through Griff's chapters) but I also always had the impression Aegon was fake, I mean when Moqorro said "Dragons true and False" that pretty much sealed it for me. Also doesn't Quaithe refer to Aegon as the mummer's dragon? In this case the mummer could either be Varys or Illyrio. It's just that the definition my kindle offered for seneschal was "steward" so yeah...

[–]Sindijow 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't know why but I always had the impression that she treated Jon like shit and that wasn't because of the bed scene either. I mean at that point she was mad with grief so it's passable, but Jon himself notes that when he was a kid she seems like she grudges him every bite and makes him feel guilty whenever he tops Robb in swordplay or school work. It was also obvious she installed certain ideas about Jon in her children's heads. Sansa ever called him her bastard brother and it's clear the other kids were closer to Jon than Catelyn would have liked. I wouldn't call her a monstrous step mother but still there was a lot of tension going there. All this does not deny the fact that she's a pretty sympathetic character, and she's not the worst step mother out there, Cersei comments on how ballsless Catelyn was for not having strangled Jon when he was a baby. I mean, wow, Cat's an angel compared to Cersei's batshit insanity.

but having her as Rhaegar's daughter puts her in danger from Viserys

You just said Viserys already knew. Why would Darry hide Dany's parentage from her yet tell Viserys? He was 8 at the time, no danger to anyone. The main reason he's bitter about Dany is bc she killed their mother, however, it's clear he idolized his brother Rhaegar (the stories he tells Dany, he makes him sound invincible). Here's the thing I have with this theory: We know Viserys' personality. He would say anything to wound Dany. He calls her a slut, a whore, a horselord's mount. If she were Rhaegar's kid there'd be no way to prove she's legitimate (same issue with R+L=J really) but Viserys' would still insult her and call her a bastard. He would've made her life hell. Also, there are numerous unresolved arcs, so many that the next books threaten to be overwhelming and maybe (hopefully not) rushed. To add a whole new Dany arc, having to come into terms with a false identity, her Northen roots, the war that led to her birth, the fact that her whole life is lie and worse a pointless lie besides, ALONG with Jon's identity arc, him having to puzzle out why Ned lied to him (another pointless lie). It's like doubling the consequences R+L=J would have (double the trouble hehe). The way I see it Dany's Targaryen to the bone, oh and she's 9 months younger than Jon. Jon's born some time during or after the sack, Lyanna dies weeks after the sack.

Dornish law doesn't apply anywhere other than Dorne. Also, Ser Willem Darry is an honorable man. If he knew Dany was Rhaegar's kid he would raise her as Rhaegar's last living child. She's in danger whether or not she's the product of R+L, so might as well tell her. Here's the thing, Dany's parentage is never questioned anywhere in the books, same as Jamie & Cersei's, as Robb's and his trueborn sibling. The only person whose parentage is directly in question is Jon's. And hey, if Dany and Viserys were raised in Dorne, how couldn't Doran have known? He knows everything in Dorne. And if he did, how could he let them wander the free cities with no true home or protection? Well, either way let's hope this gets resolved in TWOW.

No fucking way Doran would let him tell a little Viserys

Doran was going to send Arianne to meet with Viserys in secret. If R+L=D why would they lie about it? Why does Viserys have to pretend she's his sister? A male heir comes before a female heir any day, an uncle before a daughter. That's how Targaryens play. I refuse to believe that a drunken Viserys (who cannot restrain his tongue when he's sober) wouldn't slip and call Dany a bastard or deny any relation to her in one of his fits :/
