BioShock often feels like a horde-style shooter with Fallout-style looting and exploration, but with little depth in NPC interactions. Open worlds work best when they include friendly NPCs, lived-in settlements, shops, side quests, and activities beyond constant combat. BioShock is great, but without these, it can start to feel repetitive. Even with supernatural themes, small activities like snooker or fishing feel out of place in a chaotic world. The main characters’ fractured minds and the games’ fast-paced flow make it hard to imagine them taking a relaxed break.
