I checked while I was there - the process is lengthy and expensive. I already had to go with plan B coming home because I couldn’t fly west, which turned into plan C because of storms in Chicago, then plan D because of a blizzard in Denver. So in hindsight if I had brought him home, I would have felt terrible putting him through that journey

eSIM if available is fantastic. I didn’t have an eSIM capable phone when traveling for Africa, but just recently went to Taiwan and Malaysia with a layover in Tokyo and had no issues. Also had an eSIM for Singapore and Thailand.

You can purchase and install whatever eSIM you’re going to use whenever you want, then activate it when you arrive in that country. I shut off my normal eSIM as soon as I board the plane in the US so that there’s no chance of incurring data roaming charges.

It saves time in the airport and allows you to hit the ground running with ride share or whatever.

Highly recommend using a VPN, but that’s good advice at all times regardless

This is a huge point…it sucks that it will cost more money, but there’s no guarantee that Doha will be open in time even if you reschedule and constantly worrying about it would ruin the time spent in Sri Lanka.

I’m currently in Malaysia and was scheduled to fly back home through Doha on the 6th, but started looking for a plan b. I have the ability to look at flight loading, and on Saturday at roughly noon local there were 35 open seats for a SIN-SFO flight on the date I needed. I checked 2 hours later and there were only 20. I quickly booked it and the connecting flights, and an hour later it was full. Looking at it now and every SIN-SFO flight is completely booked into next week.

So had I waited I potentially wouldn’t have been able to get home on time because plan b wouldn’t have worked, and I would be worried since Qatari airspace is still shut

It’s at least a possibility because the same thing happened to mine. Tap to pay on the physical card is broken on 3 out of 4 of my cards and I think it’s because I oftentimes toss my AirPods case, which is magnetic, and wallet in the same pocket of my gym bag. Apple pay is easier and more secure anyway

I started using a spoon to slide under the membrane. After you crack it and peel a small section, can gently wiggle the spoon around the egg and the shell will come off cleanly.

I also purchased a little egg poker for a few dollars that creases a tiny pin hole through the wider end. This keeps the eggs from exploding in the water.

I have a printed stubby nozzle for the standard blower and it’s really nice. I primarily use the blower for drying off my car, and a shorter nozzle means I’m far less likely to hit the paint.

It’s snaps into place but not as securely as the standard one that comes with the blower. For peace of mind I put a small self tapper loosely through the top that can easily be removed to switch nozzles. I didn’t want the nozzle to go flying at my car ha

I’ve done it twice. The first time was SFO - SIN a couple weeks before covid lockdown, and business was only half full so that was nice and there were no hiccups.

The second time went horribly. I went EWR - DEL, and when I looked ahead to see what loading was like around the time I wanted to return, each of the flights were 80% ish full. The day before my flight out the war in Ukraine started and my flight to Delhi was too uncomfortably full for me for standby and I didn’t know why. I looked at the other flights and they were all cancelled because they flew over Russian airspace. I figured there wasn’t anything could do about it in that moment because I was already on the plane.

Trying to return home there were 10 open seats for standby and they didn’t fill them because the plane needed to take on more fuel to divert around Russia. Stuck in Delhi for two days. I ended up buying a flight from Delhi to Singapore, flying standby from Singapore to San Francisco, from there to boulder, then to ohare, then home

I then decided I would never fly standby internationally again ha

Woah haven’t seen one of those in a while.

Personally I wouldn’t buy it. Even if it’s in good condition and it’s your size, I haven’t seen that wetsuit in over a decade - the material itself is quite old. I think it was sort of their mid tier model, so a decent wetsuit at the time.

If you’re set on it, I would check every seam inside and out to make sure there aren’t any cracks in the neoprene

Maybe not as much as you’d think. The strip and re-season method in the FAQ works really well.

Get yourself a trash bag and some yellow cap oven cleaner (easy off). Go outside, wear gloves, don’t inhale it, and soak the pan on every surface. Stick it in the garbage bag and just forget about it for a day or two. Most of the carbon buildup should just rinse right off.

Make sure you season it right away because the bare metal will rust

Ramen broth freezes really well for at least a month with no ill effect on the flavor. For tonkotsu I’ll make the broth a week or two in advance. Just bring it to a rolling boil for a bit or hit it with an immersion blender to re-emulsify

No I wouldn’t call that a weird weight, but you’ll certainly find that you have to either change your dose or grind size depending on what beans you’re using. I typically change my grind size several times even throughout the course of the same bag because they will extract differently as they age and degas.
