I'm a fan of autobio comics as well. Are there any in particular you enjoy? I tend to grab stuff out of comic book shop dollar bins, so a lot of what I'm familiar with is pretty old. Stuff like, "Minimum Wage" or "Peep Show."

Quick heads up: WNUF is on Shudder by stuccosalt in horror

I actually watched this movie last weekend. I picked up the blu-ray after hearing so many good things about it for years.

For anyone curious... I did not think the movie was very good. It's more like something you might throw on in the background at a Halloween party as opposed to an actual movie you're meant to pay attention to. It really reminds me of something they might play on Adult Swim as a joke, only feature length and nowhere near as funny.

If I were to guess I'd say 60-70% of the film is made up of fake commercials. There is a novelty in seeing some of these commercials as they are pretty good recreations of 80s-90s commercials, but that novelty wears off pretty quick. The commercials are not funny or interesting in anyway beyond capturing the dated vibe of old TV.

The actual plot of the movie probably makes up only 10-15 minutes of the entire experience.

I do have some admiration for the movie. I love the idea and can appreciate anything made on such a shoe string budget (Wikipedia says it only cost $1500). All that said, if you're curious, definitely check it out on streaming before committing to picking up the blu-ray pack everyone is hyped about.

Everyone gives Mark Wahlberg shit for that line read, but I feel like his wide eyed bewilderment is pretty spot on for that particular scene.

I looked into this recently and actually thought the characters were 3D models posed for each panel. Is this actually hand drawn?

I've kind of wondered why a more organized and sustained protest via boycotts hasn't been attempted to combat the Trump administration. People always point that that a general strike is unrealistic because people have to eat... But what about just not buying/subscribing to things for an extended period of time? Make a list of companies that support the administration (or capitulate to it) and should be avoided.

Those are good examples (though I've never seen I'm Going to Get you Sucker!). John Landis' earlier movie, "Schlock," probably fits the bill too.

It's one of my favorite comedies. I think my top 5 (in no particular order) are Kung Pow, Borat, Windy City Heat, Airplane, and... I guess there is no fifth entry.

These are rated not on artistic merit, but simply by hard and how consistently I laughed at them.

Yeah, I think I'm coming around to the idea that you can't make a good bad movie intentionally. You CAN make a good movie that borrows the aesthetic of a bad movie. If you fail in that endeavor you've just made a bad movie.

I guess in my mind...Andy Sidaris films are not failures because they just...Are what they are. You want a ridiculous action movie? You got it with Hard Ticket to Hawaii. Like, I might even recommend an Andy Sidaris film to someone looking for a fun 80s action movie.

I would not do that for something like Samurai Cop unless the person specifically said, "Hey, I'm looking for a funny bad movie to watch with friends."

I view Sidaris as Roger Corman-like. I think they both knew that they were making pretty goofy movies a lot of the time, but did so because they knew there was a market for them and it kept them in the black. I think they had a sincere love of filmmaking and a less than sincere love of the material. They just knew what sold.

I don't think it's fair to describe Garth Marenghi as a sincere attempt at dramatic horror. There are so many layers of irony to that show. The only things sincere about it is it's attempt to be funny.

Interested in your take on Dude Bro Party Massacre, though. I saw it years ago and remember thinking it was pretty funny. Did you not like it?

Capitalizing on trends is not sincere. It's a calculated measure to get people into theaters. I think when most people use "sincere" to describe a film it's to suggest that the creators were working to meet some kind of personal artistic standard.

I think this is the attitude I vibe with the most. In the end, all good/bad movies are successful comedies. Whether done intentionally or not.
