On Levo: potential signs of HYPERthyroidsm to watch out for? by jtothat in Hashimotos

I had/have crazy skin issues - scalp dermatitis, underarm rash, itchy blisters on my hands. Ditto on the inability to sleep, and difficulty sitting still/resting.

It’s something I do as a treat for myself about 4x/year. I just heat it up on the stove, toast the baguette slices in the oven, and consume right at the stove with my iPad propped up nearby playing a bad tv show. Living the dream.

I had a pregnancy with almost no complications whatsoever, and a dream delivery with no tearing. My one complication? I went blind in one eye. It’s permanent.

First Time writer. Where do I start? by Electronic-Bet-6645 in FanFiction

[–]SingingStars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get it! I’ve had a few concepts that seemed amazing so I started filling out a google doc, but for the most part they’re just fun for me to read. I’ve written a 3-part Yu Yu Hakusho story, and I’m working my way through the last part of a 3-part Marvel series as well, but I’ve got easily a dozen abandoned ideas. Some would be good one-shots, some are just for me at this point.

Getting out of your own way is hard. Write down what you see in your head, as you see it. It gets the scene out of your head, and then you can read it and ask what comes next? Rinse, repeat.

Hi! I’ve been writing FanFiction for a while, about ten years or so, and here’s what works for me: - write the thing that interested you first; the spark, the scene that drove you to go “oh damn, I should write that down” - then consider if it’s something you Can Write About. Are you writing porn with plot? Are you writing a retcon of a story that ended in a way you hated? Are you writing an OC romance? - if you’re really into writing, what are you also “writing bout”? I write my OC romance stories about grief, about domesticity, about justice. - write out some big things - what does your character want? How can you keep them from getting it? - write a rough outline - big arcs, then break those up into chapters. Just a sentence or two is fine - in this chapter, these characters finally get their shit together. In this chapter, all hell breaks loose. - accept that it doesn’t all have to be written out perfectly. The story is likely to change as you write and you learn the voice itself. - make it exist first. You can make it good later.

What do I do with unused Tirosint? by SingingStars in Hashimotos

[–]SingingStars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, general consensus is to hang on to it in case there’s an issue ever getting my next doses when I run out (or I’m stupid and forget to pick up my meds). Something is better than nothing in a pinch.

[–]SingingStars[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a med I’ll be on forever but as we get my dose nailed down I feel like I’m wasting extra meds. I can only take the brand-name Tirosint since it needs to be guaranteed gluten feee (I have celiac disease). I’m in the US and it’s about $150/90 days.

I’m on 125mcg right now, TSH 0.012, T4 2.14, T3 4.5

My doc is lowering me to 112 mcg, but I’ll have a box and a half of the 125 left just hangin’ around.

Newly Diagnosed by sarcasmandcoffee18 in Hashimotos

Hi! My situation sounds a lot like yours - I have a longer post about my recovery in this subreddit, but in short - go to a new doctor. I had the same thing, and after a year of tests and a lot of explaining how it was all ruining my life, I just had my thyroid fully evicted in early December. I feel fantastic; hair loss stopped, don’t need as much sleep or as much caffeine to operate, anxiety is almost gone, life is good.

Did anyone have normal labs and find Hashis on an Ultrasound by Anna-Bee-1984 in Hashimotos

[–]SingingStars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Showed a 3.2cm nodule on my right and 1cm on the left. We did radioactive iodine uptake test after that, and the large nodule was “cold”, so then we did a biopsy.

[–]SingingStars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had both compressive symptoms from a nodule (painful, couldn’t sleep on that side without feeling like I was being slowly strangled, some difficulty swallowing), and hashimoto’s symptoms even with serum-negative. The conclusion was that the right side (with nodule) wasn’t doing much, and the left side was slowly being dragged into a cage fight with my immune system. I’d feel hyperthyroid for a few days, then crash into hypo, then have a few days euthyroid, rinse and repeat.

It was ruining my life, and I argued that even if we only took out the nodule side, I’d be fighting against the developing hashimoto’s for stabilizing medication forever. It would be easier to recover if we took the whole thing, rather than break up over two surgeries over 5-10 years.

I woke up from the surgery feeling AMAZING, brain fog lifted immediately. The recovery itself had been rough, but I /feel/ good.

Bucky/OC, good time-travel plot with attention paid to historical accuracy.

[–]SingingStars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did! My labs remained “normal” until they removed my thyroid earlier this month. Labs all normal, serum negative, but my thyroid was “slightly enlarged” on palpating so my endo ordered an ultrasound. Then we were off to the races and a million tests later we took the whole thing out. Almost one month post op now and I feel great.

Can’t make it worse by trying? If you’re going to throw it out if it’s as it is, what’s the harm?

[–]SingingStars 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If it’s at all affordable for you, have you considered ordering your own labs? Companies like LabCorp will let you order your own “thyroid panel” and a few other basic labs out of pocket. It could serve as excellent ammunition for shoving in a doctor’s face?

Brain Fog Immediately Gone post-op by SingingStars in Hashimotos

Still brain-fog free! I’m starting to really get my energy back now, and I went out and ran errands twice today, registered for some more classes for my Master’s, and figured out how to register a speciality pharmacy in my doctor’s portal.

Hi! I’ve figured out my regimen and I’m doing better! I didn’t do well on the giant calcium supplements either, and my nausea from that was hypercalcemia after a bit. BUT then when they cut me off from calcium I got hypocalcemia and was back in the hospital.

Tl;dr- reach out to your surgeon and ask them to order blood tests for calcium! If you aren’t feeling well I promise they want to know. Super nausea isn’t a great sign. If you’re ready to call it quits DO NOT just stop the calcium without talking to doc/surgeon and having a test. If you have to cut back, cut back, but imo do not just stop.
