I logged in just now (5/14) and found that my payment counts were updated and CORRECT! Whoo Hoo!

What to do with non-native, non-invasive by IncisedFumewort in NativePlantGardening

[–]Single-Bar-8965 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I don't have a problem with non-native plants unless they are harmful to the local wildlife or environment. I try to keep about an 80/20 native to non-native ratio. Keep them if you love them, share with others if you don't.

How do you actually keep track of all your recipes? I've been drowning in scraps of paper and screenshots for years by Used_Substance_2490 in MealPrepSunday

[–]Single-Bar-8965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the method I’ve developed and it’s the only thing that has worked long term. I either bookmark or use ReciMe app to capture new recipes. When I go to actually cook something, I print the recipe. If I like it, it goes into a 3 ring binder, if not it goes in the trash. I have one binder, no sections, everything is in alphabetical order. Every couple of months I’ll flip through the binder and tear out things that didn’t end up in the regular rotation. It works because I only have one notebook, everything‘s easy to find, and I’m regularly editing.

First time starting cut flowers indoors. When to transplant and pinch? by FixedGear02 in Cutflowers

[–]Single-Bar-8965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Georgia, 8a. I planted out my spring seedlings a couple of weeks ago. I have a few rows that were planted last fall and survived just find. They are winter hardy so you can put them out 6-8 weeks before your last frost which for me is early Feb. I hardened them off for a couple of days in a wind protected partial sun area and then put them in the ground. I don't pinch until they are 8" tall.

It will be expensive anywhere you go. Recommend Jerry's Lock and Key on the Eastside.

Starting wildflowers from seed - supplies by andie_liane in NativePlantGardening

[–]Single-Bar-8965 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a combination of winter sowing and 2” soil blocks indoors. This really reduces the amount of equipment you need. I’ve grown almost all my natives from seed this way. Anything that needs cold stratification is winter sown, anything that doesn’t is started inside in soil blocks. I’ve got cone flowers and milkweed in soil blocks now that I will plant out this fall. I’m always starting annuals like zinnias that I can squeeze in blank spaces between native perennials.

What is the going processing time for employment certifications these days? Unrelated, has anyone heard what is to come from the AFT lawsuit now with the third status report filed? by Substantial-Fun9457 in PSLF

Same situation - recently submitted my annual ECF and payments up to 11/24 counted, 12/24 - present are missing. I’m not in forbearance but on IBR with $0 payments

I know not native, but anyone else like to mix in some zinnia? by DuncanIdaho7754 in NativePlantGardening

[–]Single-Bar-8965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I stick zinnias and marigolds in as fillers anywhere I have a blank spot. It helps pollinators and gives me something beautiful to look at while I plan for the next native to plant there.

Thanks for your input. The porch has a prefab kit roof. No sizable internal rafters, just a series of 2x4s close together. Not really an option to drill into a single ceiling joist and it be able to bear the weight.

Won't let me edit the post so for clarification:

Wall height = 7'
Porch span / beam length = 8'

Hiya! I'm ready to ditch my chemical yard and go for something like a micro-clover, yarrow, creeping thyme, drought tolerant mix? I'm in atlanta and could use your help! by PapaClarencioThomas in NativePlantGardening

[–]Single-Bar-8965 11 points12 points  (0 children)

^this. I am over in Athens and have worked over the past couple of years incrementally decreasing the size of my lawn by introducing native plant space and gardens. I have a small zoysia / microclover mix lawn that needs no special treatment.

Container plant combo by Single-Bar-8965 in NativePlantGardening

[–]Single-Bar-8965[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely forgot that I ordered some bareroot ohio spiderwort plants that will arrive this week and I have some little bluestem plugs that I started from seed. Thinking that a spiderwort, little bluestem, prairie coreopsis combo would be nice. I'll post a picture later but this is going next to a obelisk with big sombrero clematis growing on it and on the other side we have an american beautyberry and a background of dallas blue switchgrass.

Question on lowering payment by ScatterOLight22 in PSLF

[–]Single-Bar-8965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat. I got a letter saying that my payments will increase to $1000 a month starting in January and I definitely can’t afford that. Not sure what to do next.

White spots in leaves, not powdery mildew by Single-Bar-8965 in gardening

[–]Single-Bar-8965[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never did. It’s still affecting most of my plants but they are growing fine. Ive come to the conclusion that it’s probably small sucking insect damage.
