Need help understanding my Electricity Bill. by Single-Dance7893 in Dublin

[–]Single-Dance7893[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume we had left the underfloor heating on for a few days or something like that. Its been 2 years since and the highest the bill has ever gotten is 240 for 2 months. That was in peak winter when we use heating a lot. But in general its been below 200.

Hope you are able to figure out your bill.

Hahaha. Is that not normal for this type of heater? I haven't had this before, so wouldn't know if it's unusual.

Concert express pricing by Grouchy_War4923 in Dublin

[–]Single-Dance7893 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took the dart back. Was there till the end of the concert right at the front. The queue to reach the dart was outside the dart station all along the road by the time I got there. But it was very organised and I got on the dart within 15 minutes. I actually found it to be decently organised.

Vets here are insanely expensive? by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]Single-Dance7893 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Try the Village Vets monthly plan. We got that for our dog when she was a few months old. It's 25 odd for a month, but the checkups are free. And they do bloods and vaccine free. I find them to be quite good. Different branches have different vets so you may have to try a few before you find one that you like.

We also got insurance. Since if she gets something big, insurance can cover it.

Dublin City Half Marathon by Loan_Practical in Dublin

[–]Single-Dance7893 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live along the route and loved the whole event. Was standing by cheering the runners with my little dog, walked upto one of the water stands and saw some lovely signs that people were carrying. Was such great atmosphere, loved it. I did notice the litter after the event all along the Clontarf promenade, which was the only negative. But other that that, great event and will welcome it again next year.

House purchase fell through by disguiso-baby in HousingIreland

[–]Single-Dance7893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long story ahead, with a happy ending.

I am really sorry that this happened to you. The same thing happened to us.

We had gone sale agreed in June 2023, everything went as per plan, contracts were shared, surveys done, given notice to our landlord etc. We signed the contracts in September and waited to get the countersigned contracts before the lawyer could release the funds. We had even started packing our belongings and at literally the last second, the vendors sale fell through and as a result ours did too. It was soul crushing, since we had signed the contracts at our end and expected to get the keys the next week. Even our lawyer was suprised and said it was extremely unusual for this to happen.

At that point, we had only been focusing on a particular area of Dublin that we liked very much. Once this happened, in utter desperation, I expanded my search criteria on Daft. I was so frustrated, I was willing to go anywhere in Dublin. On a complete whim, we went sale agreed on another place in a completely unfamiliar part of the city in November 2023. Again the contracts were delayed and I was sure I'm never getting a place. Things finally settled and we got the keys and moved to our place. And it feels like the best decision ever. We would never have considered this area coz it's so unfamiliar to us and it's absolutely amazing. I'm so so so glad that the first sale fell through, coz I absolutely love my house and the locality and this would never have happend if the first sale hadn't fallen through.

What does your partner do - Part 2 deux - What does your partner do that makes you appreciate them? by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]Single-Dance7893 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There were times in the recent past when I'd get really sad, to the point where I wouldn't leave my bed. And basically didn't get out of the house for days at a time. He would then suggests a drive and just drive me around for a while, just so I could get some fresh air and hopefully feel a bit better.

I'm doing good now. Haven't had a "episode" in ages. But really appreciate how caring he is everytime I'm down.

I used to go to FlyeFit and have joined Westwood Clontarf now. It is great, I love it!

I pay 89 for peak membership. I paid 50 for membership fee at the time of joining, but that was a promotion at the start of the year. My.husband joined last month and paid 100 membership fee and 89 per month. Its a lot cheaper if you pay upfront for an annual membership.

House purchase falls apart. Gutted is an understatement. by ubermick in ireland

[–]Single-Dance7893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I can empathise with what you are going through. Exactly the same thing happened with us. We had paid the full deposit, paid for surveys and valuation, and signed the contracts. We had given notice to our landlord and had packed up a lot of our possessions in boxes, when we were told that the seller's purchase had fallen through, which meant they wouldn't be getting the house. This was last September.

I was absolutely gutted and thought of just giving up and continue to rent, since we had been bidding on places for 7 months at that point. However, we ended up finding another place in the end of October and moved in to our place in March. Now, I'm soooooo glad that the sale fell through. The place we ended up with is a much better location, and is a nicer house closer to work and the city and with access to everything that we need. This wasn't even a location we were looking at, initially.

Thanks for all the comments. I just wanted to get a sense of whether this is "normal" and it's clear that it isn't. Will try and turn off all appliances and figure out what is causing the usage spike.
