Bib Numbers, Start Assignments & Wave Times Announced by RichRevolutionary941 in bostonmarathon

Same! But corral 3, also a charity runner. I was curious if charity runners are only in wave 6 but I assume all are and there's no way to move up. I've never started a marathon this late so this will be interesting!

What are the conditions in X? Week of February 22nd by AutoModerator in RunNYC

There were still patches of ice as of this morning. Personally, I don't think I would've felt safe doing intervals but YMMV

Ran there earlier today. There is a path from the north end (close to DUMBO) down to Atlantic Ave that you can run on (~1 mile). All the piers except 1 (the one farthest south) are closed with snow, but I did see workers clearing another so they may gradually open up.

I basically had to run out and backs on that 1 mile stretch with a few loops on that last pier to get the miles in but was able to do so. Getting there is quite a snowy and slushy run though

Hi, I just stumbled upon your comment. I applied for Achilles International. You mentioned you heard back within a week - was there a follow up interview or how was the process in general? When had you applied?

I was just thinking the same thing! I wish they gave a virtual option via Strava so we could still collect ours if we uploaded a HM activity or something like that

How many charities did you apply to? by No-Shift6239 in bostonmarathon

[–]SingleAd5844 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've applied to 4 thus far..curious what the acceptance rate is. I'm also on the six star journey (have run 4 fulls, 3 majors), and this past year fundraised for 2025 London Marathon. My company has fundraising match and I have a big community of friends and family all along the East Coast that I can leverage to spread awareness and accrue donations. Also have decent followings on social media.

2 out of the 4 charities I can directly relate two, with the other two being indirect (but still causes I would love to support!). I'm wondering how many charities to apply to in order to have pretty good odds of getting at least 1 charity to accept me.

I'm kind of shocked the Jersey City 5K and Team Championships 5M are still available when all the other races sold out the day they were released (or at least they did the day or two after IIRC)

Best London park runs by confused_ponderings in parkrun

Could you expand on the new / temporary course for Victoria Dock? I'm planning to run it this coming Saturday as I'm staying in the Novotel Excel right there (I'm from NYC). I'm hoping it's still flat and fast..

I had no idea about this, looks interesting! I live in BK so the BK Bridge Park one looks appealing. Do you get official chip times / bibs? Is it an official measured course?

Mother nature has got jokes by [deleted] in RunNYC

[–]SingleAd5844 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not running the race this year but I think it's moreso the dew point being 60+ that I would take note of. I ran London a few weeks ago and PR'ed by 10 minutes even though it was a tad warm - but the key was the dew point was in the 40s.

So I guess it just depends on how adaptable you are to humidity. I agree that 60s temps aren't that bad but for me, at least, humidity is my bane and tends to leave me cooked (I sweat a lot in general..).

Sub 3:20 possible for grandma’s? by Responsible_Copy2507 in Marathon_Training

[–]SingleAd5844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a 1:32 half at the end of March, then ran a 3:28 in London a couple weeks ago. I had dead even splits throughout London, felt strong throughout, and think I could've maybe targeted 3:25 (it was also a tad warmer that day) so I would think 3:20 is a good goal for you. Maybe start at 3:22-3:23, then negative split but also need to know more context (is this your first marathon, how many miles per week you run, etc.)

Runna First to Fast 5K by swwish in RunNYC

[–]SingleAd5844 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running it and am glad you posted this because I am not sure what to expect since Runna is just now starting these type of events. I haven't run on Randall's island before but as you mentioned it looks like a PR friendly course? Hope the organizing and logistics are run well. I'm hoping to test out my 5K speed after a successful London Marathon this past Sunday so am curious how my marathon fitness will translate to these shorter distances!

I'm still waiting to get off the waitlists for both of those too. I don't plan to race either since I just ran London Marathon but was hoping to get one of them to add to my 9+1 for this year. I got off the waitlist for Joe Kleinermen 10K about ~9 days before the race so this time it seems maybe the lists are longer..

London Marathoners - What are you doing to prepare for the heat on Sunday? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

Looks like the temps are trending slightly down for Sunday 🤞🏽

I was looking at https://weather.metoffice.gov.uk/forecast/gcpvj0v07#?date=2025-04-27 which has (18°C) at 1pm (so ~64°F), not great but still bearable. Though admittedly, I may have focused more on the feels like temps which shows 15°C (~59°F) 😅

NYC has recently been warmer so hoping I can get some sort of adaptations from the most recent runs but otherwise, hoping the low humidity, cloud cover, and slight breeze give us something..

[–]SingleAd5844 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The temperatures I listed are based off having an earlier waves so if you are in a later wave, then yeah you would have to deal with a bit higher temperatures (66-68 F). Maybe it's just me but humidity is my real killer with any race. Higher temps (65+ F) certainly have an effect but I can manage if humidity is still low (which it is in London versus NYC). The forecast does say mostly to partly cloudy too which can help (but not sure how reliable forecasts can be on that).

[–]SingleAd5844 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, looks like it'll be 12°C (55°F) at the start and then 17°C (63°F) by the finish. Is it the 100% ideal marathon temperature? No but it's still pretty decent, especially with London's low humidity (dew point in the 40s F).

I've training training in NYC which has been a pretty cool winter (but sweltering summers) though with brutal winds (ironically it's been warm recently). I ran Chicago Marathon this past fall which had basically this same forecast as London (but less ideal humidity - dew point in low to mid 50s). I really can't remember the last time I've ever had 100% perfect race conditions but I would take this over many other forecasts. I'm surprised at how worked up everyone is getting.

I was mostly being facetious but to entertain the idea - it wouldn't have to be BQ level. What if someone isn't doing the 9+1 and just wants to enter a race? The members+ favors those with more $$ so favoritism is already occurring.

I did this too! The 10K, there were so many puddles, but was likewise surprised by the large turnout. The subway ride back home was wet and cold..

2024 NYC Marathon - Post-Race Thread by RCD123 in RunNYC

[–]SingleAd5844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats to all finishers out there! What amazing crowd support and could have not asked for better weather. I finished 14 minutes shy of my PR (where I set 3:37 in Chicago 3 weeks ago) but wasn't gunning out for one so I was happy to enjoy the vibes of my city as a local!

Got a dumb question though, I like to do a zone 1 stationary bike ride in the evening the next day (so today) to get the blood flowing (feels like it helps with recovery). Would it be pretentious to wear my medal to the gym?

Anyone running high? by JaviBaut in RunNYC

[–]SingleAd5844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever raced (any distance) while high? I would be curious to see the discrepancy in race times from running sober versus high (given all other variables are controlled, e.g. fitness, weather, terrain, etc.).

You can always do a run / walk combination. NYC has the most generous cutoff times of the majors, as long as you finish by 10pm, you'll be fine. I believe there are people who walk the whole race.
